    • Hot Water Again! -- Perfect fit
The gas control valve on my 9 year old AO Smith hot water heater went out with the 5 blinks of death. The nice thing was it was still producing enough hot water for 1 minimally acceptable shower since it took a few weeks to get fixed. My plumber recommended full replacement but when I saw the price of the part I decided to risk a repair. I read online that AO Smith tanks can last 20+ years. If this tank lasts 3 more years I will have broke even compared to replacement including labor. I am glad I hired a plumber as my tank would not drain until they removed the pop off valve plus I don't like to mess with gas. The valve was the perfect fit for my tank. I provided the vendor with my tank's serial number and they told me the exact part to order. ... show more

    • Winter cold showers? No!
This replacement valve was exactly as expected. It arrived on time and as described. If you have some knowledge of water heaters and plumbing, it is fairly simple to install. There are multiple videos explaining installation. I would recommend replacing any plastic drain valves with a ball valve on the tank and replacing the pressure relief valve also while you have it drained. Both are pretty simple to do and will save you some potential trouble in the future. I would recommend purchase from this seller and the product is perfect. Cannot attest to the reliability of the valve as it has only been installed for a week or so. But, it is functioning perfectly now and at $129 and the time it took to put it in, it sure beats $600 for a new tank and the time it takes to put one of those in! ... show more

    • Simple enough
It was a direct cross for our failed unit WV8840B1109 to this new WT8840B1000. New unit comes with a new compression nut and compression ferrule for the pilot light tube. I would suggest you use it. Remember the burner and pilot nut are left hand threads Tools needed: wrenches 7/8", 3/4", 7/16" and I used one adjustable wrench small tubing cutter and tread sealer. Total time took a little over an 1.5 hour mostly due to the location of the water heater. It lit the pilot light almost immediately and the burner kicked in. No gas or water leaks, will check again in the morning. ... show more

    • Perfect Replacement
These Honeywell electronic gas control valves are designed to prevent serious malfunctions from causing major damages or fires, but the problem is when they detect a fault they may never work again. There are some hacks out there that may get the valve to working again but usually they are futile. Amazon's pricing for this gas control valve is good, considering free, fast Prime delivery. Beware, there are similar looking Honeywell valves on the market, some of which cost less, so make sure you are getting the correct part number for your hot water heater. The valve is relatively simple to change with minimal tools. Make sure you turn off and fully drain the hot water heater first. Since gas lines are involved you may want to hire a licensed plumber to install the valve, unless you are confident in your abilities, ... show more

    • The first pic is NOT what shows up at your door
I had to hire a plumber to come out an replace the sensor. Put in my old part number and this item popped up. The first pic is exactly what my old one looks like. However, did not notice that the 3rd pic is a completely different model. Well needless to say, the part arrived and when my plumber too it out of the box, it was the sensor shown in pic #3. I had already drained my water heater in preparation for the plumber. So 50 gallons of water into the gutter. I am so angry and will have no hot water for days now.
