I do not understand the reviewers claiming this was difficult to assemble. I had this unboxed and installed in less than 10 minutes even with the unsolicited help of my one-year-old that kept stealing pieces. No, you can’t open it with one hand while holding a kid. But if you’re an average sized adult, you can step over it. It’s a $30 gate that doesn’t require permanent installation. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It fit the wide doorway of my living room that I refuse to drill into and it stays in place to keep my child corralled without costing a small fortune. We bought this so we can block off the stairs going up to the second floor when our grandson visits. I didn’t want anything permanently installed so this was a good option. It works great except that the material fits very tightly which can make it very difficult to expand the gate to some widths. We had to detach the material from one end so that we could expand the gate to the length we want and then had to improvise and use a bungee cord to pull the material to that end as much as we could, otherwise we found out our 17 month old grandson could fit through the space left by detaching the material. Unless you’re a glutton for punishment, avoid this gate. It is designed in such a way that frustration and a really sore thumb are almost guaranteed. I’ve assembled a lot of crap, my baby is past one and he’s our first, so I’ve taken a lot of ill-fated stabs-in-the-dark with products of all kinds. This is easily the worst, the most frustrating. My thumb is BUMPING after pushing the stupid metal buttons over and over and over as I attempted to thread the needle of adjusting it to size (still didn’t work; either too wide or narrow, and I had to disassemble after each failed attempt, with metal shavings raining down every time I slid the metal bars in and out). It wasn’t until tonight that I realized Regalo also made the WORST wooden gate we purchased months back. My mother-in-law sliced her finger just trying to open it. Our baby steamrolled through it like the koolaid man through a wall. Regalo products are just bad. It’s my opinion, but I can defend it. This has been a life saver with a new puppy! It’s easy to use and fits all of our staircases! We even use it outside. Locks into place easily and is very sturdy. Well worth the price and very easy to use.

This gate was somewhat easy to put together once he read the instructions. However, it doesn’t fit between the walls the best. Instead of a pressure rod where you can twist it until it snows against the wall you have to choose the size based on the metal holes and click it into place. Unfortunately, the space I wanted to use this for one notch was too large and one was just too small that I couldn’t get enough pressure against the walls. installing it is not very easy. Additionally, it wants you to screw it into the wall with screws after you set up the pressure rods against the wall which I was looking to avoid. For what I needed it for it worked in a pinch, but without screwing into the walls, I don’t trust it to stay up if something like a medium size, animal or small child, would push into it. ... show more
