Held up well so far - 3yrs since installing

Moved into a townhome rental only to find that my rooms had no blinds. I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing curtain rods or asking the landlord for permission to have professionally installed blinds put in. Instead, I opted for this fairly simple to install kit. I followed the included instructions, cut the blinds to size, removed the tape strip and pressed firmly and held for a short period. Only one of them has "come loose" a little from the window frame, but a quick and firm press seems to get it snug against the frame again. They block light perfectly (minus around the edges a bit, but that's most likely due to how my window frames are built) and are easy to open/close. I assumed they may rip or break by now, but they have held up quite nicely and are just as "new" as the day I bought and installed them. Overall, a nice and easy find if you're looking for an easy fix to a place you don't want to invest a lot of money into.

A waste of money, a hassle, and damaged plaster. Do not buy these. There are permanent but easy to install blinds that cost the same and work much better. I thought I would save myself some work, and ended up tripling the work. I have bought two of these before in the light filtering version. Those work ok except one had bad adhesive which I fixed with 3M temporary hanging strips. Both of these still work, possibly because they are lighter (weight wise) and in rooms where we don't put them up and down often. These blackout ones are a mess. They are too heavy first of all, which causes the adhesive to totally fail, but the adhesive is still strong enough to pull the paint and plaster off of walls (worst of both worlds). Also, the material is more resistant to pulling, so 1) both blinds I bought would no lower all the way (5-8 inches less than they should (leaving lots of space for light to come in- sorta defeats the purpose of blackout) and 2) puts more tension on the adhesive when you pull. The blackout version also is not as good looking as the light filtering is - looks way cheaper. The other big problem is that both blinds I ordered had defective cordless up/down mechanisms that were not noticable until they were actually hung. Both hung crooked (VERY crooked) when up OR down no matter how much troubleshooting I did. The bigger issue is that the company won't take returns if they have been cut and hung. Their warranty has so many loopholes that there is basically no real warranty and the company is not reachable by email or phone. Your only option is an online chatbot on their website that doesn't always appear on pages and will just blow you off without allowing you to write to a real person. The process I had to go through to get this resolved was OFFENSIVE from both Amazon and the company (which did ZERO) and I still had to pony up to get my plaster and paint fixed. Avoid these at all costs.

Love these blinds with modifications and found HANDLES to fit!!

I absolutely LOVE these blinds. But with a few modifications. They are inexpensive. Minimalist look and EASY to install. I had a whole house of blinds to install on a budget and these look amazing! Originally, I thought they would be a temporary solution until I could get wood blinds. But I love them so much I’m not taking them down anytime soon! HOWEVER, there are tricks to getting these to look custom and not fall down: Hand cutting didn’t work for us. We wrapped the ends with blue painter’s tape and cut with a table saw with fine blade. Perfect quick cuts. Use 1” wide clear gorilla mounting tape. Just remove the paper covering the blind’s original tape and slap on the gorilla tape right over it. Press hard into place and leave it alone overnight so the tape can cure. The company does not make handles to fit these blinds. I can’t understand that? I was finding that the fabric would get a little stained over time from handling and wanted a solution. I have a similar hardware installed blind from Walmart and found that the handle fits these pretty well! I’ve attached photos but you will need the 1/8” thick Scotch mounting pads to secure these because they are not quite tall enough, but they are the closest fit I can find and look terrific. Once you apply the mounting tapes to the handle as shown in my photos, firmly push the handle in place. Kind of squeeze it together to get the adhesive to stick to both sides of the bar of the blind. I leave them alone for about 24 hours and they were STUCK in place. No more dirty blinds and very easy to move blind up and down now. The part number for the blind handle is P15BH1 and you can purchase in bulk from fixmyblinds.com I hope this helps others with the same issue. I use these on both the light filtering and blackout cellular blinds. We love both styles and they look great inside and outside from the street as well!! Redi Shade should really make a handle to fit perfectly and improve their adhesive. But with these hacks you will definitely enjoy these blinds.

Works but must be nailed

I ordered no less than 7 different blinds trying to find what worked best. I also wanted white so that it looked ok from outside the front of our house but needed them to also be full black out. Like other reviewers have already warned you about, cutting them to size is a workout. I used an older, rarely used serrated kitchen knife and sawed at an angle. The first few times I thought I might die. I might have lost consciousness a time or two and then kept sawing as I came to. As I got more used to the incredible amount of force necessary to saw through these mothers it went much more quickly. Still, when I got through it I was out of breath and bit faint. Next, the sticky strip at the top isn’t going to cut it. Give up the dream and just accept it out of the box. In fact, don’t buy these without a plan that doesn’t include using its own adhesive strip. I tried a lot of things including a very detailed plan of attaching super strong magnets to the window sill and the shade. Wasn’t that a great idea? No. It. Wasn’t. In theory it was perfect. In execution it was too much work. Even liquid nails wouldn’t stick the magnet to the shade. So, what’s a girl to do? I got out a hammer and nails and beat that sucker into submission. The very top plastic like top can be folded up just enough to get a nail or screw underneath. Then just pound it into the window sill. I installed these blinds behind my plantation blinds so it worked well. Nothing messy to see here folks. It’s quite dark. Very dark, actually. Yes there is a little bleed through on the edges because it’s difficult to get the size exactly right. But it totally blocks at least 95% of the street light outside of our window and the inexplicable bright as the sun red light bulb our neighbors installed on their upper deck that beams right into our bedroom. Amsterdam much? With these blinds installed, it’s so dark that you have to make sure the floor is picked up because if you get up in the night you won’t be able to see and a rogue sock can take you out. I’ll let you wonder how I know that. 😳 If you do want light to come in they are pretty easy to push up. No cords. We just reach behind our plantation blinds and push as high as we want and they hold in place. All in all these are a success and we would buy again. Just remember to loosen up, stretch and shoot a power drink before you start sawing and have your hammer and nails ready.

Adhesion, not great. It also has a usability issue. Despite these, it works.

We bought one of these units to replace blinds that we had in our old windows. It turns out it's pretty simple to cut and install these (make sure you have a longish, sharp, non-serrated knife). After installing the blind in the shorter window and seeing how well it worked, we ordered another blind for the taller window. Before the second blind arrived, I noticed that first blind had started separating from the top of the window (see photo). It did this a "little bit" and I pressed it back up. A day later it was nearly about to fall off. Mind you this was a new window, a fresh paint job, and and fresh, clean surface. It didn't take the paint off... it just separated. The solution to the sag problem was to apply a silicone sealer/caulk over the adhesive and press the unit in place using a scrap of would and supports (borrowed legs from my tripod) for 24 hours. Unfortunately the sag has left permanent wrinkles in that one window... not terribly noticeable, though. A couple of other observations... there are measurements on the top of the blind... the part that you peel off to expose the adhesive. DO NOT TRUST THEM. The blind measurements were off by over an inch. It was a bit puzzling to measure the width of the window with a tape measure and then notice where that same measurement fell on the "measuring device" on the top of the blind. Either directly mark and cut the blind, our measure and mark using a tape measure... do NOT go by the measurements marked on the blind or you'll have a disaster. Secondly, don't trust the adhesive. It is much more tedious to support a blind that has been "glued" in place with a bead of silicone caulk, but the results on our second larger (taller) window is better than on the first window having made the extra effort. The silicone caulk will be almost as easy to remove, but much more secure. The blinds do a great job of darkening... I have them in the "Full sun" corner of our house and controlling the light has made it possible to continue to work at home in my office without annoying glare. Finally there is one flaw with the design that is not related to the adhesive, or the mis-measurements... when you extend the blind all the way down to the window sill, there is really nothing to grab to lift (open the blind). It really should have little handles - OR you'll have to not have the blind come down to the sill OR fiddle with trying to get your fingers under the base. The good news is when you lift it up, it seems to remain level and in whatever place you stop. Only time will tell how reliably it will behave like that. I will try to remember to post a follow-up in a year.

Great shades, except....

We bought 2 of these shades about a year ago. Following others' suggestions, we installed these with a nail at each end along the top and they have remained in place ever since. These shades have worked easily, kept out the light, and they were perfect as designed, that is, until today - see the photo. There doesn't seem to be a way to unlock the left side of the shade. It won't go up, it won't go down, and the right side won't do anything either. Unless someone can offer a remedy, this shade will have to be trashed. Not happy. Update: A handy husband with a wire coat hanger can perform miracles. He removed the end caps on the bottom rail and poked around with the wire until the left side dropped down. The shade works perfectly again!

Great blackout.....Not worth $50
First off let me say that these are amazing at blocking out light and creating almost complete darkness. HOWEVER, these were not as "easy" to trim to size. I followed directions correctly and it was still difficult. Once the blinds were trimmed to the correct size, you put a cap on the bottom edge. Well, I trimmed my blinds to the exact size to fit snug with minimal space on each side to keep the light from coming through. The caps they gave you add just enough length that it made the blinds not fit and get stuck. I tried to trim the window down a smidge more but forget it. If you don't cute these to the correct length the first time, it's almost impossible to make and adjustments. On top of this annoying issue, the adhesive DOES NOT WORK. Every few days the blinds were hanging down from one side. I did EVERYTHING to get them to stay. Over time and after one completely fell off in the middle of the night, I gave up. I ended up having to nail the top piece into my frame. Yes, my frame width is more than the recommended size for these blinds. Now one of the blind's base is cracked and chipped from it falling off completely and slammed into the floor. CHEAP PLASTIC. CHEAP AND WORTHLESS ADHESIVE. Lastly, they are warped at the bottom. I am not sure if this is due to them detaching on one side often, but I did notice they did not lay perfectly flat while being inside the frame when first installed. Overall the only positive thing I can say about these is they block out everything. Almost too well. But I spent $100 for two blinds that now look funky and are a piece of junk. I could have easily spent $100 and got much nicer blackout blinds. Save your money, look elsewhere and find a nicer set.

The only thing I like about these shades is that they will darken a room if you can get them to stick. I bought eight sets for upstairs windows in my home. First, trimming them to get them to fit inside the window: This takes a LOT of elbow grease and does not trim nearly as easily as the seller would have you believe in their videos. And no you cannot use anything to trim them other than a very sharp, relatively large knife which is serrated or just extremely sharp. Forget using any kind of finishing saw, hack-saw, or even a chop-saw. This gives the edge of the shade material a feathered or shredded appearance which IMO looked pretty tacky. So, very sharp serrated knives only and an installer with a firm grip and strong arms. Second, sometimes they remain adhered to the drywall and sometimes they do not. For me, more often not. Despite having hung eight of these shades inside window casings onto properly installed, prepped, and painted new drywall, more than half of them began detaching themselves and began falling out of the windows, usually in the middle of the night. Third, there is no handle(s) to grasp on the shade when raising or lowering it. You have to grasp the plastic bar that runs along the bottom, hoping you have grabbed it in exactly the middle, because the shade will not raise evenly. Also because there is no handle to grasp, it's about impossible to lower them completely. Fourth, customer service was very non-optimal. I wrote them and explained what happened, and even sent pictures. I received in turn a terse, wordy reply in which they wanted every single detail about each blind, how it was installed, what type of surface I adhered it to, what kind of paint, sealant, primer, method of application, indoor temperature and humidity, etc etc. It felt to me very much like they were not trying to please a customer or be helpful; rather, they were trying to bury me by piling on unnecessary requests. This did not bode well with me. In summary, if I want the convenience of an easily installed window-shade without having to install brackets or any hazardous cords, I just need to keep looking, because this is not it.
