  • Great tablet for my kids to do their homework on/watch Netflix. Attachable keyboard sells this thing!
Great little tablet for the money (bought new for $97 in early 2017). Context: I bought two of these for our kids to use (rather than have them destroy $400 iPads/galaxy tablets). Compare this product to Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa, 8" HD Display, 32 GB, Black - with Special Offers. The Fire boasts slightly more ram (1.5GB versus 1.0 GB), and I'm sure if I knew about processors the Fire would have a better processor, but this tablet's party pieces are: Wins: 1. Attachable keyboard: This tablet has a magnetic attaching keyboard (similar in concept to a Microsoft Surface). Keyboard performs well, and tablet seems to recognize it the instant it is attached (no waiting for Blue Tooth Pairing). Keyboard can be attached front or rear facing, and fits snug into position (though I'm sure if you tried, you could shake the tablet and keyboard apart, potentially damaging your tablet, but again, you'd have to try for that). Honestly, the keyboard is what sold me on this tablet! 2. Large Display: this tablet boasts an 11.5 inch display (though the resolution is not great). 3. 32 GB Storage: competitive amount of storage space for this price point 4. Ports: tablet has TONS of ports: Mini HDMI, AC Power*, Micro USB, 3.5MM headphone jack, USB, Micro SD, also microphone, cameras (front and rear), and a speaker 5. Features: full Android 6.0 Marshmellow OS (not a watered down Kindle OS) 6. Connectivity: Blue Tooth, Wifi --nothing wanting in this department *Tablet can be charged via the Micro USB port (just like any other tablet), or the AC Power port (AC Power cord included). Not sure why RCA felt the need to include a redundant changing mechanism, but okay. I'd rather they just included USB charging, and took the $3.00 - $5.00 off the price of the tablet, as it's just one more cord to keep track of (and honestly, we'll probably never use them since USB cords have infested our house). Where it's lacking: Keep in mind, this is designed to be an entry-level tablet. . . like for kids/tweens/teens entry level. If you are buying this for a blazing fast, visually stunning tablet experience, you will HATE this tablet. The screen resolution will not wow you (it's not terrible, just not great). I purchased this for my young children to do homework on/watch some Netflix on. With that said: 1. Clunky: the tablet has a rather thick and clunky (read: cheap) feel to it. There is no pretentiousness about it. It is not pretending to be a sleek and sexy tablet. It's more a grown-up TI-108 Elementary Calculator (man that brings back memories of getting my friends to key in 7734 on those things back in the 3rd and 4th grades!. Despite it's plastic feel, it does feel sturdy and solid. you can hand this off to a toddler relatively confident that at the worst it will come back with a smeared screen (but what the kid smeared on the screen can leave nightmares!)--this thing's not military grade, but it's no egg shell. 2. Resolution: If there is a shortcoming to this tablet, it's the resolution. I've struggled to find any hard figures on the screen resolution on amazon's page. If you meander over to Wal Mart's website (where it currently sells for $20 less than Amazon, by the way!), I was able to find the resolution listed as 1024 x 600. Compare that to the Fire HD with a 10.1-inch display's resolution of 1280 x 800, or the iPad Air's resolution (on a 9.7 inch display) of 2048 x 1536 --literally, double the resolution on a screen nearly 2 full inches smaller! (Granted, you're paying roughly 5 times more for that 2x resolution and the processing power that comes with it). 3. Performance: While not great, the performance is acceptable for the price. If you're looking for blazing fast computing at this price point, you're a few years out at least. Conclusion: great tablet and excellent value for the money. Tablet is by no means "future-proof" (there are probably apps already out there this thing would struggle with), but this thing seems to be exactly what I was looking for in a tablet for my kiddos. Well-played, RCA. ... show more

  • The value proposition is amazing!
This is my second RCA tablet. The value proposition is amazing! I used a smaller RCA before, and it served me well (I still have it, and it still works just fine). This one has a newer version of Android, and it has a touch pad and a mouse pointer on the screen, like Windows, which is sweet. The keyboard and touch pad make this thing do a good job of imitating a true laptop. The screen quality is quite good for the things I do. In fact, the total I paid for this tablet is about what I think I would pay to just buy a new monitor for my desktop! Incredible. And, it's FAST! I purchased it primarily to do Bible studies, and I downloaded complete, searchable copies of a few different translations of the Bible. On Wifi hooked up to to a broadband internet connection, each bible version downloaded in under one minute! And, whenever I do not want the bulk of the keyboard, the two easily separate and I then have a free-standing, touch screen tablet. My other, smaller RCA functioned trouble free for a couple years (and still works fine...I just wanted a larger screen and and the newer Android), so I am not concerned about quality. None of the other tablets I looked at in this area of pricing had the detachable keyboard with touch pad. Unbeatable value! ... show more

  • The truth about the RCA Galileo
The laptop is well built and a bit heavier than similar sized laptops. The performance is good. Internet surfing speeds are good, and 25 Gb of internal storage is enough for most people. The ability to remove the screen and use it as a tablet adds versatility to the product, which is nice. The 11" screen is nice. Sure, the resolution is a bit lower than other laptops, but it's really not noticeable. There is a learning curve to the touchpad, however. There is no "click buttons" on the touchpad, so "touch and hold on the lower left side of the touchpad" is used in its place. Once you get used to that, it's not much of a problem. Still, a wireless mouse might be a necessity if you can't get used to it. The speaker is the low point of this laptop. Headphones or a bluetooth speaker would definitely help. I use headphones when videochatting. Without them, it's hard to hear what the other person is saying. Sure, it has a couple shortcomings, but for the price, it's a good, solid laptop. Battery life is amazing, and it'll go four or five hours before needing a charge. Keep in mind, it's NOT a top end laptop. But for $100.00 you get a serviceable Android laptop that also pulls double duty as a tablet. Charging is done via the included charging cable, or via micro USB. A nice touch. ... show more

  • Very Disappointed
Bought this for my father's birthday a few months ago. I was initially impressed with the tablet's size and ability to quickly attach and detach the keyboard, as well as its abundance of various I/O ports. Unfortunately, I learned after a few weeks my father had gotten immensely frustrated with this tablet and resigned it to a shelf. After trying it myself I can definitely understand. The software just isn't functional in 2018, despite this being labeled as such. It comes with Android 6.0, which I'm fine with, but after multiple rounds of trouble shooting apps simply won't update to any recent version. The Google , Chrome, and Yahoo apps to name a few. They download up to 200% completion and spit out an error code. Try to use any of these apps and they just crash. I didn't have huge expectations for this thing for the price point, but the outdated and unsupported software make it literally unusable for any of the lightweight day to day tasks it should be able to do. The screen also has a horrible viewing angle and the interface is dreadfully slow and unresponsive. If you're looking at a tablet device in this price range, don't choose this one. ... show more

  • Decent Product for Price
i got this product to use for school. The keyboard is small and has very small keys. I could not type well and just stopped using the keyboard altogether. Now that I could not use it for school I just used it for playing music and my brother would play games on it. It is pretty much like an oversized tablet. After a year it stopped working. For the amount of money I paid I think it was an okay experience but I would not buy again. ... show more

  • Great machine, nice price!
I love it! It's lightweight and fits in my (admittedly oversized) pocketbook. I use Microsoft Office on it, and the keyboard (now that I'm used to what it lacks) makes it easy to edit and create documents. The Kindle app runs well, and it's a pleasure to read from the good-sized screen. An unexpected bonus is how well it works with my favorite radio app Tunein. Its speaker is superior to my phone's. Not being able to add it to my phone's data plan hasn't been a problem for me -- I use my phone's hotspot when no wifi is available. And the price is right! ... show more

  • Perfect!!!
Works great! Got this for my 8 year old. He's good with tablets and phones. I thought the keyboard would be good for him to use. Kids now days r use to touch screen and he needs to know how to use a keyboard. Well the keyboard is only used as a screen protector when the tablet isn't being used. But I like it so much I'm thinking about getting myself one to. It's nice to have a screen bigger then a phone and my laptop is just to big and tks longer to load. This 11" is the perfect size for all the little extras. Like watching a video or SHOPING!!! LOL ... show more

  • Very Versatile But Think Again Before Buying!
I've had this product for just about 11 months now and the following comments are my pros and cons: Pros: I was really happy to have a computer device that's very much on the lightweight side. A big touch screen. Detachable keyboard. It worked well when connected to external devices such as multimedia projectors, Smart Tvs, Audio Sound systems, I would sometimes connect it to my computer to transfer files directly to the device storage. Most apps I downloaded on it worked fantastically! The bluetooth feature worked well also. The battery power usually lasted me about 4 hours max. I choose this item based on the number of ports it had which is a huge plus for a multi-tasks-er such as I am.I do presentations for kids 12 and under. You have the options of using a USB, HDMI, Micro USB, MicroSD Slot, 1/4 headphone jack...You just can't go wrong with all those options...I had a 32gb memory card and it worked well. This device is very much versatile and I appreciated each one of those features. It came with it's own charging adapter but you can also use the micro USB port to charge it if you forgot to take along the original charger. Cons The screen resolution, to me, it is not a good one...most times I would have to keep it at a 90 degree angle for best viewing option and I will still see background images showing up on the screen. The speaker volume is not very loud..most times I had to use headphones or external speakers. The camera quality is very low and limited options for adjusting the settings. Whenever I video chatted...my images would often look very blurry. When the battery power got to 20% I would recharge it by leaving the power on, switching off background apps and connections. The battery took about 4 -5 hrs to fully recharge and you cannot have the keyboard attached to it while charging. That's too long of a time...but I humbly obeyed. After about 6 months of usage (maximum 3- 5 hrs per day) the tablet no longer recognises the keyboard...I researched quite a number of sites for solutions and those so called "remedies" that were suggested has not worked for me at all and though I continued using the tablet without the original keyboard...it worked fine but it drastically slowed my working progress, not to mention the reduction in the screen to accommodate the floating keyboard. 4 1\2 months after the keyboard issue....The straw that broke the camel's back...I came from work a couple nights ago and I had used the tablet to complete my assignments. I did so until the power was very low...I had a deadline to meet so I plugged in the power cord and worked through till the midnight hour. Upon checking the battery power it was still under 20%. I didn't want to leave the tablet charging and go to bed so, for safety purposes, I unplugged it and went to bed. Just before leaving for the office in the morning..I grabbed the tablet knowing that my presentation was on it..to my surprise...it didn't power on for that day. I've tried so many "solutions" and done a lot of research on troubleshooting found on RCA website but up to now.. I am yet to see the desired results. ..it has come on..but it's been stuck on the RCA or Galileo Pro welcome page for the past few days...sighments! What sort of pains me with this item is this... before I purchased it..I read a lot of reviews and took the necessary precautions to ensure it was protected and used according to the specified instructions...I got the screen protectors, the case...cleaning cloth...it's never taken a fall or used for very long period of time or so often to say that it justifies the trouble I am now receiving. I would recommend this item for one of the best in versatility...but after the trouble I'm currently experiencing...I'll not recommend it! ... show more
