  • Awesome
Color: White
This is an awesome toy! The white one is really cool looking – it has awesome cool-blue LED lights, fender bumpers, LED battery power indicator and you can use it indoors or outside. I actually bought this in white and blue for both of my kids – they’ve wanted one for a while. I didn’t get them one when these first came out mainly because of the issues of them catching on fire and exploding – so like with most technology I didn’t jump on the bandwagon initially and waited until some of the kinks were worked out. One reason I bought these particular hoverboards was because of the manufacturer. I’ve had several Razor products including electric scooters and I’ve never had an issue, so I trusted the name brand. Another reason is that it’s UL 2272 certified which means that it meets the industry’s highest electrical standards which put my mind at ease about this thing not catching on fire. The Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Hoverboard Self-Balancing Smart Scooter is well built and so much fun. I bought these as Christmas gifts, so I had to test this out myself – and it is not as easy as it looks! I honestly almost took out one of my cats on this thing! Riding this takes some coordination and skill – but I eventually was able to successfully ride this after a little practice. There are actually some YouTube videos on tips on how to get up and going on one of these pretty quickly. It also helps that there is a training mode and normal use mode – I definitely needed the training mode. The smart balancing technology helps as well and it automatically levels for an easier mount. I like that the Hovertrax 2.0 is pretty quiet and the speed is pretty good too. You may not think that 8 to 10 MPH is fast, but when you are cruising on this thing it feels like you’re on the motor speedway. Charging this is pretty easy and you can ride for about an hour in between charges. I also like that you can get an extra battery and change out for extra riding time. Overall I am happy with my purchase – the price is decent. I’m sure that local stores may have these available for a little less on Black Friday, but I’d rather get one now and ensure I have them versus fighting someone in Walmart or taking a chance not being able to secure one online. That happened to me last year with a TV – I bought it on Black Friday online and got a receipt and pickup time – but two days later my card was refunded because they ran out! I can’t wait until Christmas so I can see the look on my kids face when they open this present and finally get the hoverboard they wanted. ... show more

  • This thing is a lot of fun
I got this for my 10yr old daughter, but its more than capable enough for a full size adult. I'm around 175lbs and its able to go up hill with ease, even in training mode. Its been a lot of fun for both of us to learn and we were actually able to pick it up pretty quickly. She (60lbs) rode it the first day for about 2 hours and the battery still had power to spare before we put it back on the charger. At the beginning, she had a hard time getting on it and was wobbly, but after about 5 minutes she was looking pretty good and by the end of the 2hrs, she was almost a pro. Its surprisingly stable over bumps and ruts, however if you are looking for a true off-road hoverboard, there may be better ones out there with larger wheels and cushier tires. She was initially nervous to go downhill because it has no brakes, but it turned out to be a non-issue. Going downhill you can simply rock back and the motors will slow you down and even bring you to a stop or go back up the hill if you want. I can't speak to longevity because we have only had it a few days, but it seems very well built. It is heavy, but well balanced. Most of the weight is in the motors and wheels and not the battery. One last point on the cost, they are all made in China (all that I've seen), so manufacturing wise, they are all on a level playing field. Given that, there is no reason any of the hoverboards should cost much more than the Hovertrax 2.0 (my Amazon price $150). As an engineer, I know that the big hitters for the BOM cost on this board are the battery pack and the motors. The Hovertrax has an UL certified 36v battery with real LG cells and my experience is that it lives up to its spec (unlike some cheap products and batteries that I've had). It has the 350w peak, hub motors, which are the best I've seen on Amazon and the firmware is built by Razor, which is a solid company. Could some additional lights and speakers add to the cost? Sure, but add in the cost of your favorite portable bluetooth speaker, it shoudn't be much. If you pay $300, $400 or $600 for a hoverboard with similar specs and manufacturing, somebody's making a bunch of money... ... show more
