  • Amazing Mouse Especially For FPS
Size: Mouse
I've been playing and working with Razer mice for years and have most of their models on hand: DeathAdder Elite, Mamba Elite V2, Naga Trinity and now the Basilisk V2. The oldest is the DeathAdder Elite that is at least 4 years old. It's shiny from wear but works just as good as it did on the first day. I keep hearing folks complain about the Razer's quality and, I suppose, I am one of those lucky individuals that never had any issues with their products, thus I purchased all the mice listed above over the years to try different designs and see how they all feel. The Naga has been my favorite due to the shape -- I have a large hand and it's very comfortable to use it, I love how my hand just kind of rests on it, it almost feels as if it was molded around my palm. The Basilisk is the very close second favorite and I will explain why. This is predominantly my FPS mouse, while the Naga I use for RPGs more often than not. Basilisk is a very precise mouse. It's by no means small but more narrow then Naga and the rubber sides together with the thumbrest make it very easy to grip and execute precise movements using various hand, wrist and arm muscle groups together. Naga in that regard is a bit more clumsy and relaxed, still capable in shooters by all means but the Basilisk has an edge over it in such type of games. The extra buttons are very well placed. They are easily accessible but don't get in my way, so I don't trigger them by an accident, which sometimes happen when I use the DeathAdder or Mamba. The feature to control the sensitivity of the scroll-wheel is genius! I have it set to have the most resistance. Switching weapons by an accident in the middle of action is no longer a thing. The sensitivity adjusting wheel feels a bit flimsy but it's on the bottom of the mouse and so far worked as intended, so I don't think this is a problem but, perhaps, could be a long term point of failure. I had this mouse so far for a couple of months, so I can't say how it will be years from now, but so far -- so good! The main buttons are very long, longer than on any other mice I ever used, and are quite sensitive, but not to the point that I press them easily by an accident. They are quick and very easy to trigger when needed. Activating sniper-type weapons when the time is right, but not a second later, feels just right, and it seems the philosophy behind the design was exactly that -- to give the user that ability to trigger weapons as fast as possible using muscles within nearly the entirety of fingers. This also gives it that elongated "alien spaceship" type look that I very dig. The weight of fingers is evenly distributed along the length of the buttons. It glides very easy and feels at home on any mat but works especially well with hard surface mats. On the bottom it has extensive low friction inserts that make it feel stable and quick. At first I was skeptical of the thumbrest, and I never owned a mouse with one before, but it's certainly there for more comfort and better control, certainly not just for looks. When it comes to looks, I think it's their most good looking mouse. Very elegant, though, of course this is subjective. To me the looks are a plus but I certainly don't buy mice for their looks (well, maybe the Mamba Elite is an exception, haha). Somewhere I read that it has one of the best sensors out there, I can't comment on that as all Razer mice to me feel good and I mostly use the 1800 DPI setting on all of them with the ultra-wide 1440p main screen I use. There were no glitches with the sensor, it has been working fantastic all this time. This could be a placebo and, perhaps, this has more to do with the overall design of the mouse, but it feels very precise, more precise than my DeathAdder but, again, this could be unrelated. Overall, it's an amazing FPS mouse that in my world takes the crown from the DeathAdder in that regard. It's the mouse that I take along to use with my laptop most of the time as it's nearly as comfortable to me as the Naga but lighter and not as tall, which makes makes it fit my backpack pockets better. I like using it for work as well. There's absolutely nothing negative to state about it, minus the flimsy-ish resistance regulation wheel for the scroll-wheel but, as mentioned earlier, it is on the bottom of the mouse and doesn't need to be tanky at all to perform its function well, which it does. I certainly would recommend this mouse to pretty much everyone. Whether you are a professional that needs a very precise mouse or an e-sports star -- it's an amazing mouse to have. My Mamba and DeathAdder are jealous as lately I've been using exclusively the Basilisk and the Naga, though the other mice do make good display pieces :) ... show more

  • Really light weight but plugs right in and software downloads automatically
Size: Mouse
This mouse was for my son since he wore out his last one, but I have a Razer I have had for a long time. I think it's the same model even just an earlier version. So far everything is working great. Software downloaded and installed very easily. I looked at a bunch of different brands, trying to get a sense of why so many others were cheaper prices. My conclusion is that most of the really cheap, similar mice -- they are all Chinese knockoffs. I couldn't even find a website for some of them. They are all Chinese companies, and I'd never heard of the company or the brand of mouse before. I will only mention one in particular. WolfLawS - Looks like a nice mouse, but I couldn't find a website to download drivers. I can't get a single Google search to return anything useful about the company, and the descriptions and explanations are either written by a 13 year old or someone for whom English is not their native language. This made me check out several other brands I didn't recognize with similar results. Long story short, even though this mouse was a little more expensive than the "cheap" ones, it's a known brand, one I have used before and still use, and doesn't have the feeling of a knock-off. I this case, brand recognition is important, and I would most definitely buy another one as a replacement, assuming Logitech can't get their act together (used to use them all the time). ... show more

  • Smooth and easy, might need a little breaking in
Size: Mouse
I checked out the Basilisk v2 wired mouse the other day as it was on sale and I needed a new mouse. I used Razer products for a decade and was generally satisfied until I noticed a trend wherein any given mouse would break after a couple years. The wheel would lose traction, or one of the thumb buttons would stop responding, something like this. Can't yet speak about this product's longevity since I just got it, but I can say it feels great to use from the start. The buttons are ergonomically placed, the wheel's scroll resistance is adjustable, and the extra thumb button is easy enough to use - at least once I figured out it doesn't ship with the button ready to go. You have to remove a rubber seal over it, then remove the actual button from the interior plastic holder and seat it in. Still, that took all of a few minutes, so it wasn't so bad. The mouse glides across my hard mousepad like a dream. It's light - perhaps even too light, indicating an issue with build quality. Still it feels good when using. Also, I like how the cable is a properly braided fabric with virtually no tension from being coiled up. It goes where you expect it to go, and the cable doesn't unexpectedly shuffle the mouse around from the tension you sometimes get from stiff cables. The Synapse software was a breeze to install. In fact, I didn't have to download a separate .exe from Razer's website; simply plugging in the mouse led to a prompt to install Synapse, and off it went. I like how configurable the installation is. Don't want the extra stuff? Cool, you can choose to install only the essentials. Once it is installed, it's easy to change button bindings or color configurations, and you can set 5 different profiles as well. I also like how you can set duplicates. For instance, I switched both of the DPI buttons under the wheel to Ctrl, then I set both mouse wheel left and right to middle click. The software took the duplicates without any warnings or extra prompts, and I was all set once I clicked the Save button. The only real criticism in the initial test drive is with the middle mouse click. At first I had to apply just a bit more pressure than normal for it to actuate, and I had to do it at the center of the button. I couldn't lightly press the button like I normally do, nor could I press the button from the end closest to my hand like I often do. However, this cleared up after a day or two of use, and now the middle button actuates as expected. Overall, it feels great to use, and the two issues I encountered were quickly resolved. I'll keep an eye out to see how long it lasts. If it fits my usual experience with Razer mice, it won't be a great loss since I picked it up on sale. Still, I'd love it if it lasted longer, because it's very fine to use right now. ... show more
