  • great deal on a great kids bike if you are willing and able to assemble
I was looking for something better than a Toys R Us / Walmart bicycle for my 9 year old daughter. Raleigh is a legit brand. I saw this bike in a local, reputable bike shop for $320 and later noticed it on Amazon for nearly $100 less. The price here as of writing this review isn't quite as low but it's still a good deal. The only downside would be the need to assemble it myself. Decided to go ahead and get it here since I'm good with mechanical things and have a lot of tools. (Although am not a "bike guy" specifically.) Assembly and simple tuning of the bike was not too bad but it did take me a solid 3-4 hours to unpack everything, watch various youtube videos, and carefully assemble. Tuning the brakes and derailleur took the longest amount of time. So in the end I got a great deal and am very happy with the bike but I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't comfortable with tools and mechanical things. I made sure to buy a tube of grease from a bike shop in advance of assembling, mainly for the seat post. One nice thing about this bike is how incredibly light it is. It is noticeably lighter than the 20" Toys R Us bike this one replaced. I added a kickstand, the Greenfield KS3B (285mm): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DT3MG4/ Screwed right on but I had to hacksaw it shorter and grind the end to not have sharp edges. A bit of a pain but I'd rather have a fixed-length kickstand than adjustable length since it's more sturdy. ... show more

  • Great bike, but no assembly instructions ! Handle seems a bit far and too low (kid's height 4'11" ).
Style: Alysa 24 Color: Teal
This bike came in without ANY instructions on how to assemble the bike. Granted, it came mostly assembled, but for those who have never touched bike's brake cables it's a bit of learning curve until they decide to give up. I had to take it to a local bike shop and get the breaks hooked up. My daughter loves the bike so far. I feel the handle is a bit too far and too low (for her height 4'11"). It would have been great if it came with a stem bar and instructions on how to adjust the height. ... show more

  • 8yr Old Daughter Loves It
Style: Alysa 24 Color: Teal
Great bike. I covered all the options. Buy from a local bike shop where they have Trek or Specialized, high quality stuff, and pay close to $400 or more. Go cheap and buy a 24" from Target or Walmart for say $100-$150. Go to Dick's for their line of bikes for about $200-$225. Buy used for one of the aforementioned, though given the timing of my purchase (Oct) there wasn't much available locally. So then I found these Raleigh bikes after seeing one used at a local bike shop selling for $200 with 3+ years on it. This was in between the options, a bit cheaper than the high end assuming you assemble yourself, but top notch quality on par with those. Certainly way better than all of the cheaper options, I compared specs side by side. This bike had a few things going for it that I liked: Skinnier wheels since my daughter will ride mainly on streets / sidewalks, much lighter than all the cheaper ones, preferred a 7-speed to say a cheap 21-speed from Target where more could go wrong. I pulled the trigger on it and assembled myself. It took some time but overall not too difficult. Crossbar (handle bar) needs to be lined up with your eye, brake handles set to a 45 degree angle. Things like that take extra time to make sure you have it right. The brakes were the trickiest part but I "think" I figured that out. The bike rides great, I know I have a great quality bike that will be handed down to a younger kid, then can probably sell it for $100+ in 5 years' time. No regrets, if you're in a similar position wanting to go higher end but save a bit of money you won't go wrong with this bike. ... show more

  • Good value for money.
Style: Alysa 24 Color: Teal
Good bicycle with decent components and a light frame. It seemed to be decently lubicanted, but I'll probably repack everything after a few months of break in. The assemble itself is easy, but there are a lot of adjustment needed to get the bicycle in new condition similar to what a local bike shop may do. I had to adjust the brakes and derailers. I also adjust the reach depth for smaller hands. Another adjustment that I always make, even if from the bike shop is to tighten the spokes and true the wheels. The bike comes with okay alum rims and ss spokes, but I'm never impressed with the quality of a machine built wheel. They will not hold up to the abuse a healthy child will put a bike through without the spokes properly tightened. Btw I have pay more for wheelsets for myself than this bike. A more legitimate complaint is the inner tube failed after a month due to the cheap rubber all low cost manufacturers use where rim tape belongs. It's a shame that Raleigh puts there name on product that take short cuts like this, but unfortunately there is no longer any 1st world mass production of bicycles that exist anymore. Just a few bicycle factories in China making all the brands. Designed in Washington State. Come on, how dare you insult my intelligence! How dare you. ... show more

  • Outstanding quality and easy to assemble!
Style: Alysa 24 Color: Teal
The color is so vibrant and exactly as pictured! So beautiful. Assembly was easier than expected! Rides very smooth and has a comfortable seat! Breaks work amazing and the handle bars are perfect but the handle bars are not adjustable.

  • Nice bike but QC let me down a bit.
The bike went together easily and seems to be well made. Despite being well packaged the bike did have a few chips in the paint, based on the location of the chips I suspect the chips were there before it was boxed up. It's not worth the trouble of returning it and they really are rather small but still it was a little disappointing. Other than that I'm happy with the purchase. The bike seems very light for it's size and it should be a joy to ride. I can't wait to see my daughter's reaction on Christmas morning. ... show more
