Description

The Schwinn Elm is a great bike for teaching your child to ride with confidence. The Elm features a SmartStart design, which has been carefully calibrated to a child’s proportions for a comfortable ride and ideal riding position. This includes a lighter bike frame for added control, smaller grip handles to match smaller hands, a narrower pedal position to match narrow kid hips, and much more. Best of all, the Elm grows with your child. The tool-free adjustable seat post easily accommodates your child as they get taller. Plus, the inclusion of both rear coaster and front hand brakes eases the transition to a bigger, hand-break-only bike when they’re ready. • Outstanding kids bike for the price.
Color: Red Size: Koen/18-Inch Wheels
This 18" bike was purchased for a 4.5 year old (46" tall) who is riding without training wheels. Despite reservations that this bike would be too big, it is the perfect size with the seat down all the way and there is plenty of room to grow. Assembly took about 20 minutes and the only tools that were needed was an Alan wrench, socket set and Phillip screwdriver. Most of this time was actually spent unpacking the bike which was wrapped heavily in cardboard and other protective material. Actual assembly time was closer to 10 minutes. The only fine tuning required was the front break and everything else went together smoothly. I liked how the handlebars are adjustable so I was able to angle them inward for the shorter arm reach. I did remove the plastic number plate off the handlebars because I didn't like the look. Otherwise this is a sharp looking and sturdy kids bike that should be good for two to three years of use. I also liked that it came with a kick stand which most other bikes tend to come without these days. This is a shout out to Amazon Warehouse Deals for a Used - Very Good item that only had a banged up box and otherwise appeared brand new for $60 less than a new bike. Most sizes and colors had numerous items on Amazon Warehouse Deals so there is a good chance you'll be able to save some money on this bike. Funny thing is this item actually came with two sets of pedals, when most items tend to be missing parts, so if you get this item and are missing pedals let me know and I've got you covered. ... show more

  • Read instructions carefully, but bike itself works well
Color: Teal Size: Elm/18-Inch Wheels
Pros: Assembly was manageable with the right tools and lots of re-reading. All parts arrived with bikes as anticipated. Bike is solid, and has a simple adjustable seat. All the bolts needed came pre-attached, some which had to be removed to put various parts on the bike, but it helped knowing which bolts belonged where. Bike is easy to ride, peddles work well, steers good. Wheels came fully inflated. Cons: Directions were a bit confusing because it was for a few styles of the same bike. For example, two different types of training wheel, which are not attached the same way on the instructions. Made putting the bike together confusing because I had to keep checking to figure out which bike I had, as that was not clear. Overall, happy with the bike, glad it's fully put together now. Felt the price was a bit much, but was happy to find a 18 inch bike with training wheels. ... show more

  • Great little bike with a good value
Color: Teal Size: Elm/18-Inch Wheels
Color : Teal Style : 18 inch Bought it for my 6 years old daughter. The assembly was very minimal and it took 25 - 30 mins to assemble the entire bike with minimal tools. The IKEA toolbox is sufficient to assemble the entire thing. Compared to other bikes it's very comfortable for her to ride. The teal color looks absolutely beautiful. Now about the customer service, while assembling I noticed the back reflector was broken, never bothered to return just for a reflector bought couple of them from Amazon which doesn't fit (the diameter size was matching), the diameter was either too small or little big and not fitting. After returning both finally called Schwinn support mentioned in product support from Amazon order details. The call took a while to connect but once I was able to talk to then and mentioned the model number they sent the reflectors within next 3 days. So I believe they'll support and stand behind their product. Like the fact that it comes with a side stand and both the hand brakes. It is priced on little higher side but it is sturdily built, stable, assembly is very easy, very comfortable to ride and looks absolutely amazing. My daughter absolutely loves it to ride and we are happy with our purchase. ... show more

  • Missing Part, Continuing Problems with This Bike - Avoid!
Color: Blue Size: Koen/18-Inch Wheels
I purchased this bike for my 6-year-old little boy after he outgrew his first bike, a 14" Specialized we purchased from a local bike store. After dealing with the Schwinn Koen Boy's Bike, I really regret my choice to purchase it and wish we'd spent a bit more on a better bike. So problems abound with this bike. First, the instructions aren't great and seemingly designed to cover a range of bikes rather than being purpose-made for the Koen. I haven't assembled too many bikes so I felt a little underprepared to tackle the assembly for the Koen given the rather poor instructions. For example, the front brakes on the bike required adjustment as they weren't properly making contact with the wheel. The instructions completely omit that. Thankfully, I was able to find a video to watch online of a similar bike and make the adjustment. Our bike was also missing the assembly that holds the bike seat in place and unfortunately, I didn't assemble the bike until right before my son's birthday wanting to keep it a surprise and all. This meant that his newly assembly bike was unrideable until we received the proper component. The missing component isn't even pictured in the instruction booklet nor is a parts list included! Receiving the right part was a hassle too since (surprise!) there's no part number to give and Schwinn does not take responsibility for the bike instead offloading that to a different company - Pacific Cycle to get the component shipped. I'll spare the details but it wasn't a smooth process and after ignored emails and the wrong part being shipped, I finally received the correct component almost 30-days after making the initial purchase. After all that drama we're still experiencing problems with the bike. My son still uses training wheels (we're working on that) and the training wheels come dangerously loose all on their own. This happens despite me using tools to fully tighten the training wheel bolts. Our experience with the bike is a shame because it looks really good and my son loves riding it. But this is the first and last Schwinn bike my household will buy. Definitely not recommended! ... show more
