Obviously doesn't entirely block the sun, but it does provide enough shade while not blocking the view entirely and looks more natural than plastic shades that will eventually crack in the sun. Very pretty and well made, although they are delicate because the individual reeds are thin. But still very nice and looks as if they will last a long time. I used twine to tie up the extra length instead of the plastic hooks that are included because the twine is not really visible and the plastic hooks included to hold up the extra length are an eye sore, but that's my personal preference. This was just what I needed to filter sun at the southwest side of my chicken run. I ordered one to try and liked it so much I ordered a second. Unlike some reviewers, I had no problem with differences in color or length when ordering two separate times. These were also easy to install. While a roll-up mechanism might be handy for inside, manual rolling is best for outside use I think. After these were hung, we had an 80 mph wind event and they didn't blow down, unlike two trees directly to the south of the chicken pen. My 4-star rating is completely dependent on price. Great at the < $30 price point, but price volatility on this product is INSANE. The price jumps from in the $20s to $160 for no rhyme or reason. Basic non-rolling blinds like this, that are more decorative/privacy-providing then wind/sun blocking, are simply not worth over $40, max. Right now they're at over $100 for which my review would be less than one star. Quality wise, we've had it for 3 years now on our deck, still going strong. They barely block the sun at all though--the evening sun is almost just as blinding through them as without them. They are decorative, block a little wind, and give a little privacy. A pain to roll up. Prone to mildew if you do leave them rolled up in the elements. If you do get them, be careful with the little plastic clips you need for "rolling" them up. They break easily and no one sells replacements (I had to design and 3D print my own). ... show more

I bought two of these two years ago to cut the morning sun from a southeast-facing porch in New Hampshire. The house does not have AC and on hot summer mornings the porch quickly starts to heat the house too much. We had a very old split-bamboo blind that I loved, and I added two of these reed blinds to see if they would do well to extend the shade across more of the porch. They're great, so this year I bought two more to shade the whole side of the house. I roll them down in the morning and back up in the afternoon when the sun is off the porch. They cool the porch and by extension the house very significantly. They are pleasant enough to look at from outside, but the real score is that they're beautiful from the inside, very important as the view from our porch is lovely and there has to be some compensation for masking it! You can still sort of see the view through them, and I love the way the blinds split the light, and the streaky shadows they cast. At night, too, if they are rolled down they help turn the porch into a cozy extension of the living space--I strung a 24' string of warm-amber Edison-look LED bulbs along the rafters, and their light is very pretty against these blinds. My extremely opinionated extended family has had nothing but good things to say about the blinds. I hung them from large screw hooks and hung a cord from each hook that has a small loop at the end, adjusted to the right length to hold the blinds very tightly rolled out of the weather all winter. The little plastic hooks that come with the blinds are quite easy to use to adjust the blinds to different heights. I have to use a stepstool or a chair to put them up high. ... show more

The shades are ok. I ordered two of the Cocoa, both 60x72 to hang on my patio. The material is flimsy, not sure how long they will last in Florida, some of the bamboo is already splintered and they are not the same length. One is the right dimension and the other one is 6 inches longer and uneven. I rolled them up so I'll just live with it since I already drilled the holes and hung them. I'm happy with them for the price, I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to add some privacy, and these fit the bill. If you are looking for uniformity and exact measurements you may want to look somewhere else. But if you want something decent looking and relatively cheap, this is the shade for you. I didn't use the hanging hooks that came with them, I bought some Q hooks from Amazon and used them so they won't blow down. Also the do have a strong vinegar smell when you first unroll them. I put them outside on the patio unrolled for a few days before I hung them and the smell had disappeared by then. If you plan to hang them inside definitely let them air out first. ... show more
