  • Amazing product
Style: 08 Zone Controller Pattern Name: Sprinkler Controller
I wish I had gotten this sooner. I looked at a number of smart sprinkler controllers and this one is really quite a marvel and it’s not the most expensive either. Yes, I am a tech geek, but you do t need to be to appreciate this device. if you take some time to go through the whole setup process you won’t regret it. You can get it up and running pretty quickly but I see benefit from doing some of the optional things like setting up the map. I have a fairly large yard and watering all zones for 30 minutes would used about 6000 gallons so running it like that several times a week would cost me a fortune. Normally I manually water when I see the yard needs it, but I tend to under water that way. I setup the Rachio at the beginning of what turned out to be a very dry August and so I needed to run the sprinklers. The Rachio is very smart and doesn’t water all zones during a cycle. It tries to predict the soil moisture based on weather and what vegetation is in the zone (flowers, grass, shrubs). It really quite impressive. By the end of August I had used no more water than when I tried to manage manually but it watered something on most days and my yard looks way healthier so it used the water more efficiently. It is also pretty good at using local weather to adjust the schedule on the fly. I ended up getting the Tempest weather station that integrates , but that was more of a geeky thing than a necessity. That is another impressive device and it seems to work well. ... show more

  • Ties into Home Assistant flawlessly and other smart home platforms
Style: 08 Zone Controller Pattern Name: Sprinkler Controller
I recently purchased the Rachio 3 8-Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller, and it has completely revolutionized the way I manage my lawn irrigation system. Not only does it excel as a standalone smart sprinkler controller, but its seamless integration with Home Assistant takes its functionality to a whole new level. First and foremost, the Rachio 3 is incredibly easy to install and set up. The instructions provided were clear and straightforward, making the installation process a breeze, even for someone like me who isn't the most tech-savvy. The controller's sleek and modern design also adds a touch of elegance to my garage. One of the standout features of the Rachio 3 is its intelligent watering capabilities. With its advanced Weather Intelligence Plus technology, the controller constantly monitors local weather forecasts and automatically adjusts watering schedules to ensure my lawn receives just the right amount of water. This not only helps conserve water but also keeps my lawn looking lush and healthy all year round. The mobile app that comes with the Rachio 3 is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing me to control and monitor my sprinkler system from anywhere, at any time. I can easily set up custom watering schedules, make adjustments on the fly, and view water usage reports right from my smartphone. It's incredibly convenient, especially when I'm away from home or on vacation, giving me peace of mind that my lawn is being taken care of properly. Now, let's talk about the integration with Home Assistant, which is the icing on the cake. I'm a big fan of home automation, and having the Rachio 3 work seamlessly with my Home Assistant setup has been a game-changer. By connecting the Rachio 3 to Home Assistant, I can incorporate my sprinkler system into various smart home routines and scenarios. For example, I have created an automation that turns off the sprinklers automatically when it detects rain through my weather sensors, avoiding any unnecessary watering. Furthermore, the integration with Home Assistant allows me to include the sprinkler system in my voice-controlled smart home ecosystem. I can simply ask my virtual assistant to water specific zones or even start a custom watering program without lifting a finger. In terms of reliability, the Rachio 3 has been rock-solid. I've experienced no connectivity issues, and the system has been responsive every time I've interacted with it, whether through the app or Home Assistant. Overall, the Rachio 3 8-Zone Smart Sprinkler Controller is a top-notch product that truly deserves all the praise it receives. Its advanced watering features, user-friendly app, and seamless integration with Home Assistant make it the perfect addition to any smart home setup. If you're looking for a smart sprinkler controller that combines efficiency, convenience, and innovation, the Rachio 3 is hands down the best choice. Your lawn will thank you, and you'll wonder how you ever managed without it! ... show more

  • So far so good!
Style: 08 Zone Controller Pattern Name: Sprinkler Controller
This controller is what I was looking for to replace my old controller, which did not have any WiFi capabilities. The physical installation was simple. The process to initialize and setup the controller using the Rachio app was a bit cumbersome. Somehow it bombed out about 75% of the way through the install. I tried a few more times before sending in a support request. I didn't get a response within 24 hours so I decided to search how to do a factory reset on the controller. Once that was done I went through the setup process again and it worked fine after that. Rachio support did eventually respond to my request, stating that they were dealing with a huge number of requests due to spring's arrival, and that they were able to see my controller online. Setting up zones and schedules is super easy. I'm using the cycle and soak smart cycle, as well as the weather intelligence. It's been pretty good so far. I realize that I was WAY over watering my lawn last summer with my old manual controller. The cycle and soak feature is interesting in that it waters each zone for half of the amount of scheduled time, and goes through each zone in the schedule twice. This gives the zones time to absorb water before the second cycle. Pretty cool. A newer part of my property doesn't have any irrigation plumbing, so I ended up buying the Rachio Smart Home timer as well for the spigot and soaker hose. I was really hoping that the Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller could be used for the hose timer as well. I understand why they keep them separate, but for those of us that have invested in the controller, it would be nice to be able to use the controller as a hub rather than use yet another outlet for a one-off smart hub (which only applies to the hose timer - not the sprinkler controller). You manage the hose timer through the same app, but it's a different interface. It would be nice to see all of my Rachio watering schedules/history in one place rather than going back and forth. Overall I'm happy with this product. It hasn't had a single issue with wifi connectivity, despite it being two bring walls and about 40 feet away from the nearest wifi node. Other smart home products I've tried have not worked so well. Last summer I forgot to turn my old school manual controller on before I left for vacation. I came back to some very heat stressed plants. That won't happen now that I can access my controller from anywhere! ... show more
