Really like this little heater/fireplace insert. The flames flicker very realistically and the embers look very cosy. It also has degrees of how high and fast those flames go or can be turned off entirely, leaving just the glow from the embers. Its very quiet and the remote is an added bonus for a lazy person such as myself, lol, tho it doesn't have much more than maybe a 6 ft reach. Good enough for us do to our particular arrangement, but maybe something to consider. It seems to heat our room well enough, but as yet we haven't had any really cold temperatures (40's is the lowest so far and we have central heat, so for us this is intended to supplement, not replace) to really put it thru its paces. As far as being energy efficient, can't really speak to that either as I haven't had it long enough to see what it does to my utility bill yet. But it does make our living room mighty comfortable and homey, puts off enough light so we don't trip over the cat, and looks pretty authentic when lit. Oh, and for those of you wondering, we got the original version, not the "upgraded" one. Ours has no sound effects (as mentioned in a couple reviews), so I assume that's the upgrade they refer to. ... show more

IT ARRIVED IN PERFECT CONDITION IN TWO DAYS!!! MY HUSBAND IS EXTREMELY HARD TO PLEASE, COMPLAINS ABOUT EVERYTHING, BUT, WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY BY THIS ELECTRIC LOG INSERT. The media could not be loaded. I really like this one and the great visuals it puts out. I picked it because it has sound (crackling, birds, or waterfall) too, but lost a star because the sound is LOUD and has no volume control. When it's on with no noise, the item itself is quiet. I was hoping for some nice ambient sound of a fire crackling but it's too much. Other than that, simple to use, pretty, and does it's job.     • This thing literally killed my breaker

After plugging it in, it can barely heat a room if 500 sqft, but after leaving it on for about 2 hours, it tripped the breaker and killed power for one half of the house.
