This kit is supposed to be for up to a 60 hp Mercury 4 stroke engine … which requires a bit more than 3 1/2 quarts of oil … there’s only 3 quarts in the box!!

Filter was correct for my 2002 Mercury 50hp 4 stroke. 3 quarts of oil will put the oil level in the ok to operate range but at the low end of the dip stick. As other comments have said you need another 1/2 quart to get it to the top of the full mark.

I just used this complete oil change kit on my new 2016 Mercury 60 hp four stroke outboard this morning. It comes with everything you need at a reasonable price. If you let your outboard sit for awhile before removing the oil filter, there will be no or very little oil to leak that can be caught with the included and handy yellow oil catcher. You should buy this kit at least once for the catcher. In my experience, the oil drain plug seal is harder to find and more expensive to buy separately if you don't buy the kit. NOTE: My 2016 Mercury 60hp 4 stroke requires 3.2 quarts of oil not 3 as seen in the photo from my engine. You might need an extra quart to add the extra oil. I have found 3.2 quarts to be accurate when checking oil level. ... show more
