The summer sun in Texas is intense and hot. We searched for a solution that would provide shade for a vegetable garden with no natural shade. Last year, we tried using shade cloths but they did not endure the frequency or strength of the winds in our rural setting This structure is intended to be bolted to an existing concrete patio or wooden deck that our vegetable garden obviously did not have, so we were concerned about our ability to create 4 perfectly level bases for the 4 posts in the middle of our pre-existing garden. The louvered roof was just what we needed and the majority of the reviews were encouraging. That, along with the number of reviews which praised the quality of the materials and the prompt and thorough responses by Purple Leaf for those who had questions or issues, convinced us to take a chance. This structure must be mounted on a stable and level surface. This required us to pour 4 separate concrete footings (12 and 14 ft apart in our case), each one at the exact height and perfectly square in relation to the others. Because of our winds, I wanted the feet of the posts to be bolted to anchors I set in each footing. Getting the four pads of concrete in the appropriate location was not too difficult, but the challenge was in setting the bolts in the concrete pilings perfectly, so that the posts would ultimately sit in line with those adjacent to it. Long story short, it can be done! It all turned out well. Photos show the variation in height of the pads and 8” anchor bolts set in the concrete for mounting. The pieces were shipped securely in heavy duty packaging. Each painted piece was protected by a sturdy plastic layer which had to be peeled off every surface, including the front and back of each louver. It took a little effort to remove it all, but we appreciated the quality and the protection it provided. No scratches or dents on any of our pieces! All the components fit very well and all the hardware necessary to complete the job was included . The instructions that come with the pergola aren’t great but are good enough to get the job done. The measurements in the literature are quite accurate. The pergola is well constructed and has a nice paint finish. There were no scratches or dents and there were no missing pieces. The package we ordered included 3 louvered panels to install as “ walls.” We have not yet installed those so I cannot comment on my experience, but based on the quality and fit of the adjustable louvers on the roof and the pergola itself, I anticipate no issues. NOTES: Some small tools are included for installation. I would highly suggest having a good Philips screwdriver and some 10mm hex tools. The small screwdrivers provided were extremely light duty and broke after one use. Having some good tools of your own will make the job much easier. Unless you are skilled and experienced with mechanical things and have some knowledge of construction, I would highly suggest having some capable help with this installation. Some of the components are heavy and awkward. I did ours by myself, but I am skilled in those fields. We are quite pleased with this purchase and would not hesitate to purchase another one if needed. AGAIN: Get some help if you’re not highly skilled. Good Luck and enjoy!

I recently purchased a 11X13 Purple leaf pergola for my backyard, and I couldn't be happier with the results! Installation was smooth, and the design complements my outdoor space beautifully. The customer service was great. I had one damaged part that they had sent a replacement right away.

Shipped fast but in a few deliveries due to how many boxes. Customer service was great when I overlooked installation instructions. They knew exactly where and in which box to locate them. Instal was straight forward, was able to do it alone with some ladders in a single day. Quality has been great, withstood some heavy wind/dust storms in Az and no issues. Roof being loved is remarkable leak free. 10 out of 10 will buy again from purple leaf

High quality pergola that was relatively easy to put together with two people. The shades move smoothly and are easy to open and close, and the entire structure feels very sturdy. This is a fantastic addition to our backyard and we can’t wait to use it!

I'm one of this people who research everything to the nth degree before a purchase. In my search for the perfect pergola, I found they varies in price greatly. You can spend $1500 to well over $15K. I decided on this particular brand because they had a lot of reviews and they responded to presale inquiries in a timely manner. Since I live in Southern California, I didn't have to worry hurricanes or snow load Delivery - This package came in 5 boxes and was delivered in 2 days. There was no damage to the boxes, but there were a few bent pieces that didn't really bother me. Installation - I'm not particularly handy, but this took me and one other person about 6 hours to install. The instructions were not great, but it's fairly obvious is you're doing something wrong. Quality - this thing feels very solid and the louvers are all quite nice to open and close. The 11'x14' unit I purchased does not come with curtains, and Purple Leaf will not sell you accessories after the fact, but this was generally easy to work around. Caveats - There is no easy way to hang lights on the pergola without drilling,and nothing sticky will stay stuck very long, we ended up using zip ties to make things work. Lastly, this pergola is not waterproof. The middle beam is two pieces and during the last rain storm, water was leaking out of the seam like it was a rain gutter. This was disappointing as we thought we'd have respite from the rain under this pergola. We have tightened the screws, filled the seams with loctite, and wrapped it with water proof gorilla tape. Hopefully this fixes the issue, we won't know until the next rain comes, which could be awhile in Southern California. Overall for the price, the unit looks really good, is very solidly constructed and with after market rails and curtains we are pretty satisfied with the purchase. Minus 1 star for having the middle beam act as a rain gutter without being water proof. EDIT. We raised on side of the pergola with bricks to give it a slight slope and taped/caulked the center beam seam, now this pergola no longer leaks. 5 star project. I wish there was a way to mount things in the center beam like a project or fan. Otherwise it's a very solid purchase
