We purchased a 12 x 16 PurpleLeaf Pergola in Bronze. Shipping was very fast. It comes in 6 large, heavy boxes. The instruction booklet was clear and easy to follow. My 17-year-old daughter and I assembled most of the pergola ourselves working several hours a day over 3 days. We needed my husband's help to connect the beams, which was the most difficult part of the assembly. The parts were well packaged to limit dents and scratches. We had 2 louvres that were slightly dented and we moved them to the very first/last one and you don't even see it. After we had it all assembled, we realized we were missing the end caps that are the final step. We looked everywhere for them and determined that they were missing. I emailed the company and explained the missing parts (4 endcaps). They responded, confirmed the parts, and had the parts shipped to us very quickly. The company then followed up to ensure I received the parts and was able to complete assembly. The pergola looks great and is very sturdy. We had friends over and they gave us lots of compliments. As far as rain protection, the closed louvres provide good protection from a typical rain. However, the other day we had severe thunderstorms blow through. The structure remained steady, but the built-in gutters could not handle the torrential rain, nor did I expect it to. Mind you the gutters on our house couldn't handle that volume of rain either. Basically, it provides rain protection from the usual rainstorms, but it will not handle a torrential downpour. Looks great: Much cheaper than building a covered roof Sturdiness: I selected PurpleLeaf because of the sturdiness and snow load Size: Lots of size options and the 12 x 16 was perfect for our space Value for money: This pergola increases the functionality of our outdoor space at a fraction of the cost and hassle of adding a covered roof

––– Overview ––– The pergola was the big centerpiece to a whole backyard remodel, and it really lived up to it. Purple Leaf makes some very specific sizes I've not seen from other brands, which was immensely helpful as we weren't limited by the pergola size when designing the backyard and our deck. Having the pergola has reduced the heat inside the house significantly as well. Just the shade alone has dropped the average temperature by 10 degrees on the other side of the sliding door. Excellent support and build quality made a lasting impression. I've already been recommending Purple Leaf to my friends since I was so happy with the pergola and the support team. ––– Build Quality & Aesthetics ––– The build quality is really nice; the powder-coated aluminum means no corrosion, which is a major plus. The color looks great in the light. The coating has a matte texture and feels very durable. We built a deck around the feet of the pergola so that we could hide the bolts. The legs are sitting raised on blocks of poured concrete just below the deck. This really makes for a sleek look with the hidden bolts. The only con of the aluminum is you can't use magnetic hooks to attach lights, meaning you'll need to use adhesive. But I'd rather deal with that than the potential corrosion that is a problem with cheaper steel pergolas. The aluminum is also very thick! No need to worry about its strength holding up the weight of the louvers. We had a shipping dent on one of the legs that we didn't even notice until way after assembly because the powder-coating was so well done and very high quality! Purple Leaf support was able to help us out with that, as you'll read in the later part of this review. ––– Louver Functionality ––– The louvers are really easy to close and open with the included (and removable) crank. It's nice to be able to open them slightly to let hot air rise and evacuate the heat, but still have shade. And because it's adjustable, you can block the sun at any angle and still have the louvers open for airflow. The operation is still very smooth and quiet even after a couple of months of rain and sun. We had a small mounting loop installed under the overhang of the house originally for a sail-style shade, but we now use it to store the crank instead (see pictures). Highly recommended so that you aren't storing the crank on the pergola, and it's still accessible in a tidy place. ––– Assembly & Gutter System ––– Our contractor told us the assembly was really easy, it just takes some time since you have to peel the protective layer from each individual louver along with all the other pieces. It helped our contractor since he could keep the pieces clean and covered with the protective layer as he assembled the rest of the deck. Had some rain just the other day and the gutter system leaked at the joints. There was no leaking at all on the louvered section, so no need to worry about rain getting through the louvered roof section itself. Consider some waterproof marine tape on the interior of the gutter system during your assembly. ––– Customer Support ––– The Purple Leaf support has been really great. One of the bolts to screw the feet into the ground was missing. They quickly sent us a discount refund to be able to pick up a replacement bolt at our local hardware store. And once assembly was finished, we noticed a dent high up on one of the legs (likely from shipping). Since we hid the feet of the legs under the deck, we would not be able to disassemble the pergola to swap the legs around or repair the dent. It was a 1.5cm dent that radiated out, but because of the angle of the sun, it showed up really large and obvious at certain times of the day. After explaining the situation, Purple Leaf was able to very quickly send us another discount refund to compensate for the dent as well. Before assembly, make sure to check all your pieces across the 7 shipping boxes for any dents or damage. Contact Purple Leaf, and they will be able to provide replacement pieces; they're very prompt in reply and offer real solutions rather than the runaround like I’ve gotten from other companies. Also, make sure you have ample space to receive delivery. The boxes are very long and will take up a ton of space. They require a two-person lift; don’t throw your back out, get a friend to help. ––– Conclusion ––– Overall I am very happy with the pergola and to anyone else who has been looking through tons of reviews of all sorts of pergolas, you can stop your research right here, this is the one to get lol

This is a great pergola. I researched several options before deciding on this one and I'm very happy with the decision. The construction is sturdy and well built. It is easy to follow the instructions and one person can do it with help on some parts, but it will go much faster with two. The color finish covers all exposed areas and appears thick enough to avoid small scratches. Customer service has been amazing and has been very supportive with their offers to help and provide assistance. I am very satisfied and fully recommend this pergola!

This is a high quality unit unfortunately it had shipping damage that customer support was slow to correct. They did eventually send the needed replacement parts and adjusted the price for repairing the parts that could be repaired. The only improvement I can think of is better packaging and quicker replacement of damaged parts. I am very pleased with the end results.

I received the pergola a few months ago. I wanted to wait on my review until we had some Santa Ana winds here in LA. Jan 7 2025, we had some serious winds up to 100 mph. The recommendation from the manufacturer was to open the louvers in high wind conditions which I did. The unit held up perfectly!! I was afraid that some of the louvers would come loose but none did. So, I have to give it a 5 star review. It is a well made system. My only complaint which is the same as others is, there was some damage to it when it arrived. It's unfortunate that they have not worked that out yet. I did receive a prompt response from the affiliated seller. Fortunately I have a rubber hammer and I was able to get it back into shape or at least 98% there. I would rather not have had to do that, of course. But once it was all set up, it was a beautiful addition to my patio.
