I underestimated the quality of this swing based on other reviews I read prior to ordering. The swing I purchased was delivered in two boxes, each wrapped and sealed properly so product did not get damaged during shipment. It was easy to unpack the swing components and everything was clearly labeled with stickers (including bolts, nuts, caps, etc.). This made assembly quick and easy (two people put it together in less than 30 minutes). All the holes lined up so never felt like we forced any bolts into place. The metal components have a nice textured finish and good weight to them, so they do not feel cheap at all. The swing is very comfortable and absolutely quiet due to the plastic clips provided to add to the springs (prevents the "metal on metal" chirping sound you normally hear on other swings in motion). The terra color cushions add a nice pop of color and make for a comfortable seat. Lastly, the seller was very responsive to my questions and helped me quickly sort out a delivery issue with the courier. We loved our swing so much that we actually purchased another so more family and friends can enjoy the swings on our patio. ... show more

I ordered a swing from Lowes. It came in a damaged box and no instructions. We took it back. A few days later a second box showed up. They never told me that it was in two boxes. We returned it too. I ordered this from Amazon based on ratings. It is very nice, packed professionally, with easy to read instructions. They said up front there were two boxes. What a difference! ... show more

As others have noted, the instructions are rather poor, but the finished product is good. The cushions could be a bit thicker, but it's really sturdy and looks nice. I would give this 5* if they provide decent assembly instructions! If you buy it, you may want to review these notes below - had I seen something like this before assembly, it probably would have saved me close to an hour of struggling. THE CHECK LIST Booklet says there are FOUR items E, but in fact there are two items E and two items E1. you will note that two of the bars are about an inch shorter than the others. There is no item K listed - there are EIGHT K items - these are the plastic spacers that you will use to assemble the sidebars to the bench/back. I had an extra P and extra PP bolt in my set that were not needed, and one of the M6 caps (Z) was stuck comletely inside the M8 cap (took me a moment to figure out why it seemed an M6 cap was missing, and one of the M8 caps didn't seem to fit the bolt!) STEP 1 This is fairly straightforward, EXCEPT KEEP EVERYTHING LOOSE - DO NOT TIGHTEN THE FOUR TOP BOLTS YET AND DON'T INSTALL the nut caps. In fact, try and keep those bolts on the frame AS LOOSE AS POSSIBLE at this point. You CAN tighten the four bolts that hold the back support bar (F) and attach the m6 nut caps (Z) at this point. When assembling the side panels D to the frame, make sure the frame widens enough or you will have difficulty getting the bolts in. I found it easier to install the top bolt on one side of the side panel and then the bottom bolt on the other side first. Again, get ALL four bolts into the side panel FIRST before tightening any of them. At the end of STEP 1, now TIGHTEN all the bolts, and install the four M8 caps(Z) to the bolts on the top of the frame. You will find it FAR faster and easier if you have a right-angle ratchet drive that takes bits and have a set of hexagonal bits. It's pretty slow tightening them with the supplied wrenches. STEP 2 The flat part of the back frame faces the seat. You will use the eight spacers (K) on the J and J1 side arm supports between the side arms and the back/seat. DO NOT ATTACH THE SWING TO THE FRAME JUST YET! It's easier to install the canopy with the swing out of the way. STEP 3 Getting the canopy onto the frame can be a bit difficult because it's very tight and requires some strength to pull it into position, and it's easier to handle this if you don't attach the swing yet. I found it best to attach one side of the canopy, then upend the entire swing with the attached side at top. You can then step down on the frame of the canopy (now on the ground) to hold it down and lift up on the frame to slide it into position on the plastic gears. Then upright it all and install and tighten the two big knobs, making sure the canopy angle is match on both sides. NOW, you can attach the swing: Take the swing supports E and E1, making sure the SHORTER one's are at the front, and the LONGER one's are at the back. Attach the swing supports to the bench seat on the front and back hooks, attach the spring to the other end of the Swing supports, THEN lift up the side of the swing by the spring and attach the spring to the frame. Do the same for the other side. The lights are nice, but there's no indication as to how to mount them, nor are there any clips which you will need to attach them to the canopy, and the solar panel will have to be mounted (somewhere) too. Note that the sidetables have two support bars on the bottom that fold out and clip onto the bar below to secure the sidetable in place. If it's in a windy place, consider using a tent hook and a chain/wire to hold the legs down as the canopy acts a bit like a sail. Hope this helps :) ... show more

The Patio Swing from Purple Leaf came in two boxes. This was a plus as it made the movement of the boxes easier and prevented damage to all the parts in transit. The parts were well labelled and they were all in great condition. Assembly was relatively easy and the instructions were well laid out and simple. I did have difficulty with the allen head bolts that attached the side trays to the main frame legs. The tread sleeve for the bolt in each of the legs (A) and (B) may not have been machined properly. Consequently, it took quite a bit of force to screw them in. So much so, that the heads stripped. I decided to finish construction of the patio swing and contact customer service afterward. The shade frame provided enough tension on the canopy to make sure that it was taut and not sagging. This swing has two side trays to hold phones and beverages. The best part of the swing which is a key differentiator from all the others that are available is the finished back of the patio swing. Most are just a colored fabric which looks very cheap. The Purple Leaf Patio Swing is ornate metal work. This makes a huge difference if it is positioned on a patio in such an orientation that it is facing the inside of the home. The best thing about this Patio Swing is the tremendous customer support I received from Purple Leaf. I had a problem with the bolts and two of the legs. The communication by email was effective and rapid. Additionally, they had a very helpful and customer focused orientation. I received the replacement parts by Fedex Ground sooner than I had expected. It was their actions that made me a big believer in Purple Leaf. This is a beautiful swing and the whole thing is metal..it was pretty easy to put together and the company really cares about their customers by letting you know when it ships and if everything went OK when assembling. They stand behind their products..I just love my swing.
