I am beyond impressed with this product - from the design, to the assembly process, to the customer service! Here are the key points: - It looks great! It's lightweight, but sturdy, with a wonderful finish on the aluminum and great quality canvas on the shade. Also, I was so happy to see that they don't use stickers that leave a residue on the product when you peel them off! BONUS POINTS! - It goes together easily! My husband and I were able to assemble it in less than 2 hours! Now, that being said, I'm one of those weirdos that enjoys assembling furniture in the dim light, with a glass of wine and some calming instrumentals on a Saturday night. It brings me calm when most people would be cursing everyone that thinks that Ikea is something other than a torture superstore. - The customer service was great! As said in a few other reviews - I received an incorrect piece, contacted the seller, and had a new one at my door before the week was through. They were prompt, helpful and communicative. - The only challenge we had during the whole process was getting the seal on the upright posts onto both the upper and lower sections in order to screw the support in. Not a huge deal though - just took a little more patience and elbow grease (luckily we had a fresh can ready). Honestly, I'm glad the seal fits that tightly! Just be prepared for a little annoyance and fingertip pain when you get to that part. THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU FOR ASSEMBLY: Don't tighten the screws on each step until all of them are in. I had no issues getting them aligned, didn't have to route out any holes to make them fit, I just got them all in place before I cranked down on the wrench. The parts are very well engineered, labeled consistently and come with very clear instructions. TL;DR: If you are looking for a pergola, this one is great quality at a great price. ... show more

I purchased the 12' x 16' version. Delivery was easy and it came in 2 large boxes. The directions note that you will need 2 people - we had 6 there and all of us were busy! I would suggest at least 4 people. The structure is sturdy and looks great. Some of the holes for hardware were not exactly lined up and we needed to drill-out/widen some of them. We had a large thunderstorm with high winds the day after we put it up - it didn't move at all. But we were sure to secure the shade in the closed position. Overall it is a great product and we look forward to using it for a long time! My only complaint is that the price dropped by $119.00 shortly after we purchased it. :( ... show more

I ordered this pergola so I could have some shade on my deck in the afternoon. The assembled product is great. The retractable cover is easy to deploy and retract, and it has two spring clips that hold it fairly securely in the closed position. Since it's lightweight aluminum, it does sway a bit with a moderate breeze, but not so much as to cause concern. The only thing I feel could be improved with the design is adding some way to hold the cover in the open position. I've addressed this by attaching a length of paracord to the strap and tying the other end to my deck railing. The only real issues I had with this product are around the assembly process. As some other reviewers have noted, there are many pieces and many screws involved in the assembly process. On my pergola, many of the screw holes didn't align perfectly with one another, so I had to spend a lot of time widening the holes with a drill so the screws would fit. One of the pieces in my kit also arrived with a large dent, but the company promptly sent me a replacement once I made them aware of the situation. Overall, I would still recommend this pergola with the caveat that you should expect to encounter some issues during assembly. If you are comfortable with this and are handy enough to address these issues, then this is a great product at a great price. I was able to assemble it entirely on my own, but I needed to get creative with ladders and rope to hold the frame steady when attaching the first two cross bars. I'd highly recommend having a second person available for at least this part of the assembly. ... show more

I went with Purple Leaf because of all the wonderful reviews. It did take some time to set up, we read the instructions a few times and followed them. The pergola looks great and works for us exactly as needed. It is lightweight so we screwed the legs into patio squares (as it was set up on the grass). It does not move at all in the wind but if I lean on it, it will move. Maybe I should have filled part of the legs with rocks? No matter, we love it!!! ... show more

This was easy to put together,only took two people.The pergola seems sturdy enough and should last a long time. The main box had slight damage from shipping company with torn a small hole in canopy. Notified seller and had a replacement in a few a few days. Would buy again from seller.

It wasn’t to bad to put together, just a ton of screws. It helps if you have two people. But once it is up, it is wonderful! I did but different post holders for increased strength at the base.
