The item arrived several days earlier than the original shipping estimate and upon arrival everything was well packaged and all parts were there. One "A" post had a small dent and one "X" connector piece seems to have a small chunk of finish chipped off to reveal red underneath for some reason, but neither is really noticeable. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. My husband and I assembled it in around 2 hours with no issues, but an extra set of hands would've been helpful at a point. The pergola looks beautiful and provides a great amount of shade for our patio! The locking mechanism to keep the shade fully extended works well so far, but I do wish there was a system for securing the canopy while it's fully tucked away. If you just slide it over to the side to leave the top exposed, the wind easily blows the canopy halfway open and the wheels running on the track are quite noisy. We looped the strap that hangs from the canopy around the jut out of the cross beam that sticks out above it to hold it fully tucked away and it seems to be working so far. As some reviewers have stated, my first pergola order did not have the instructions in the box, so I contacted the seller (through Amazon), and I eventually had a digital instruction manual emailed to me. That was the only “hiccup” I had through this process. It was a little frustrating at first, but overall, if that’s the worst part, I’m still happy. I ordered the pergolas after trying to get a quote from a professional pergola builder, who ended up ghosting me after taking some measurements. These last 3 years have resulted in professionals ghosting potential clients, so I had to take matters into my own hands. Thus, I had to make some modifications to the pergolas to fit my needs. First, I spray painted the individual pieces to match my house trim color before assembling the pieces. Then I had to saw off the end pieces on one side of each pergola so they could fit closer together. I also used the same drill hole for the house attachment piece so the pieces could overlap and fit closer together. I still have to buy a third pergola to attach on the other end of the house, but as for now, this will hold me over for a while. The retractable shades glide smoothly and look beautiful, whether pulled out or retracted. The only down side is having to know ahead of time if a windy day is coming so I know to retract the fabric ahead of time. Again, if that’s my biggest problem, I’m still happy. Overall, this is a beautiful product that I’m so glad my husband and I were able to do ourselves in just a few hours’ time. I am definitely buying a third one! Bought this pergola for our patio. It arrived as promised. All parts were included and in perfect condition. Hired 2 workmen to assemble it. They followed the instructions in the assembly manual and it took them approximately 3 hours to complete. A couple times they needed extra hands to help assemble parts, so my son and I helped. They anchored the posts to the wood deck with the screws provided and it seems very stable. I selected this model because of the retractable awning and it works perfectly. Easy to open and retract. I'm 6'2" and someone shorter might have difficulty latching it in open position. I do use ties to keep it retracted. Some water does accumulate in the awning when it rains but it's easy to dump out by opening the awning. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our purchase. Highly recommend. ... show more

I bought this a little while back. It's been great so far. I'm using it as a trellis for my kiwi plant. I'm using the fabric cover for another project. I put it together by myself. I do have a bunch of ladders so I was able to use them to prop sides up. It would have made it easier to put it together with another person, but I don't have time to wait for my husband to help me with it. I put it together in about 2-2 1/2 hours. ... show more

    • Directions aren't right - or things are marked wrong?

So, we had quite a few issues with the pieces either being marked completely wrong, not marked at all, or not matching what it looked like in the photo. Hilariously, there's a section in the instructions that literally say "DO NOT PUT 'P' IN 'H3" when, actually, that's exactly what you had to do in order for it to be correct. But of course, we didn't find that out until we put the entire thing together and the canvas wouldn't close properly because we followed the directions and put "P" where it's supposed to be. So. That was fun having to take things apart after 5 hours of labor 🤣. It does seem like good quality other than that however. I was little skeptical about getting this. 10x18. The box said 10x20 which I knew it would fit. Customer service advised that there was a misprint on the box so I went for it. Last year we had a large tree fall on our patio from a significant wind storm. It destroyed the shade sail structure. We order 3 of these Pergola’s. Unfortunately because of the number of trees down in the area it took nearly all summer to get the contractor on site to remove the tree.. At first everything seemed perfect. Then I realized missing minor parts and the company was responsive. Main posts are dented slightly (figured they would eventually get dinged). Everything else seemed to go super smooth, until the canopy. The instructions are completely backwards, and it was cumbersome to assemble.
