  • 12'x20' gazebo: Tricky to assemble, beautiful once complete.
Size: 12' X 20' w/Balls Color: Khaki
The media could not be loaded. This took me quite a while to get fully assembled as I was dependent on the assistance of some friends that could only provide a couple of hours of help at a time. I'd estimate you can probably get this done(-ish) in a single weekend if you have 3 people, good weather, and 2-2.5 (6+ hour) days . Here are my thoughts and suggestions/tips for buyers and the manufacturer: Pros: - The parts were well packaged and came in 7 boxes. The minor damage I saw on a couple boxes didn't seem to affect the parts inside. (There were a couple minor bends in some rails but that may have occurred before shipping. These were easily remedied with some needle-nosed pliers.) The parts were well labelled with a few minor exceptions. - The 12'x20' gazebo is a great size for our deck and provides plenty of shaded room for a 6 person table and chairs plus plenty of room left over. I - I like that there is both mosquito netting and privacy/wind curtains. FYI, I don't think this will be 100% mosquito proof but it should help keep the numbers down a bit. (The netted panels at the top leave some pretty large gaps, but if you really wanted you could seal them up with expanding foam or something similar. I glued the bottoms of those panels to the frame mostly for aesthetics and to help keep a few of the particularly unmotivated pests out.) - The gazebo is beautiful. I love the look and have already gotten compliments from neighbors. We assembled it in February so it's been too cold to really use it yet, but we can't wait. I'll add some photos to this review shortly. Cons: -As noted by others, the manual is pictures and part numbers only (Ikea-style) and there are a few steps that don't show sufficient detail to eliminate the possibility of errors. Some of the roof support rails, for example, have holes that only line up with the roof panels in one orientation, and that isn't always clear, so we had to undo things a couple times and redo them. If you download the installation PDF you can zoom in a see a bit more detail, but the manual definitely has room for improvement. - The aluminum is a bit thin/soft and is prone to bending/damage if you are not careful. In one instance a part intended to secure ends of rails of the upper roof frame was threaded and was stripped instantly when I screwed in the bolt (R1/T1/T2). The screw fell out and I forgot to glue or fix it before we finished the lower roof, so now I cannot easily access it to secure it more permanently. - The plastic spacers / clips for the slanted roof panels (Z/Z1/Z2/Z3/Z4) are not well designed. They fall off MUCH too easily when trying to align the panels into the top/corner rails. Adding some small slot holes to the roof panels for the spacers to clip into more securely would totally solve the problem. - Assembling the roof panels was fussy. Trying to get them fully set into the rails at the top and aligned with the mounting holes on the cross rails while aligning with overlapping panels was occasionally a challenge. See my tip below about using screwdrivers to lock things together while attaching to the rails, etc. - I've heard some folks say that the curtains flap around too much in the wind. I haven't used them yet, but I would love a good solution. I'd love some weighted sandbags (maybe like the draft stopper things for doors) that could be easily temporarily attached via heavy duty velcro or snaps or something. Tips: - You definitely need 3 people and a couple of full sized ladders to get this put together. Putting up the upper roof and fitting the roof panels on both the upper and lower roof can be fussy/finicky and some parts would simply be impossible otherwise. - For sure have at least one cordless drill (two may be better) and the two required hex bits. You also need a Phillips screwdriver bit. - Use a low to mid-level torque level setting on your cordless drill and hand tighten if necessary. The roof panels will flatten and squash a bit if over-torqued. Also, most of the threaded parts are soft aluminum and will strip or cross-thread very easily. (I can count at least three bolts that I completely stripped out, forcing me to secure them some other way...construction adhesive, etc.) - Don't bolt the gazebo down to the ground/deck until fully assembled. When we started assembling the roof panels, it became apparent that the frame wasn't yet perfectly square and it was making it difficult to put the panels in correctly. Shifting the frame around resolved it, and there were a few times it was helpful to move the whole frame a few inches to provide better access to sections of the roof via ladders. (Even fully assembled, it is light enough for a few people to lift it / shift its position, so get it all together in the approximate final location, and bolt down only when you are sure it's where you want it. This also makes it easier to ensure the legs are plumb and square when you do bolt it down.) - As has been mentioned in other reviews, the plastic "clips/spacers" that go on the roof panels are NOT well designed (Part Z/Z1/Z2, etc.) and will fall off very easily. I used painters tape to hold them in place on each panel temporarily while we fitted the panels into the slotted rail at the top. It is fussy work and is incredibly easy to knock them off while shifting and sliding the panels around. (I believe the pieces are intended to keep the panels from moving much in the gap in the top rail, but it's not a particularly precision fit, so I'm not sure how useful they really are.) - A trick to help with the roof panel installation: Use one or two standard thin screwdrivers to help align panels with the holes in the supporting cross rails. Once you get the holes aligned between overlapping panels and the rails, you can "lock" them in place temporarily by sliding a screwdriver through to hold them while adding the other bolts/nuts. Secure the panels to the highest attachment points first (the brass threaded fittings in the main support rails,) then the other cross rail support holes. Secure the bottom bolts last. Notes on the vendor: Purple Leaf - I had narrowed down my selection to about three vendors here on Amazon that make what appear to be otherwise identical products at the same price point (I suspect they may well be made in the same factory.) The deciding factor was customer service. Purple Leaf was the only one that had a separate web site and apparent contact / support information. I think it was the right choice. Purple Leaf were extremely responsive and engaged to let me know the status of my order, how many boxes it would come in, tracking numbers for each box, etc. They very were eager to know how my installation was going and provided a link to a time-lapse video of the gazebo being assembled. (BTW, they should include that link as a QR code in the manual, as it definitely helped better visualize some of the steps.) ... show more

  • Very nice. Money well spent. Impressed
Size: 12' X 16' Color: Navy Blue
We received our 12x16 is six different packages on time. The boxes came with no significant damaged and none of our parts had any damage. Every thing was packaged and labeled nicely. The product has a nice Finnish to it and we were impressed with how well it looked. Me and my wife assemble the entire units ourself with no extra help. The main structure and roof we assembled in approx 5 hours. She did have to stand on a 6ft ladder and hold the center roof assembly while I started the bolts and assembled the other few arms that hold the upper roof. We waited until next day to install the finishing touches. The curtains, screens, and then went back and tightened all the bolts we had left loosed during assembly including the roof panel bolts. We centered and square the gazebo and anchor to our concrete patio all together that took about another 1.5 hours. This can easy be assembled in a day with 2 people. We are extremely please with this product. Only thing I don’t really like was I did not use the anchor bolts that came with it. There was no drill bit for these anchors and no clear instructions as to what size hole to drill. The instruction said it was a 1/4” anchor but after drilling a 1/4” hole the anchor did not fit and trying to drive the anchor in it only bent the anchor. So I just used tapcon screws that I already had. I had used them on the fabric top one that this one had replaced and they worked very well. So I decided to just use them on this one. The ties for the curtains aren’t attached on our old one they were so we are worried that these may eventually get lost. Strong wind does blow the curtains open and the Velcro ties don’t seam strong enough to hold. From past experience I just place a small bungee cord around them to secure them anyway. One screen was missing a grommet. We double checked several times and it only has 15 grommets where the other 3 have 16. But I think we can live with it if that is our only issue. We had a 10x12 Lowe’s brand with a fabric top for 6 years and we were pleased with it with the exception of having to replace the top about every 2-3 years. So we are hoping that this one last a long time with no maintenance. If you are looking for a nice gazebo I highly recommend this one. Hopefully this is my last one for many years. ... show more

  • Easily the nicest part of my yard!
Size: 10' X 12' w/Balls Color: Khaki
I did alot of research and reading reviews before settling on the Purple Leaf 12x10 Gazebo and I couldn't be happier with the end result. It came in 5 separate boxes each labeled with a number from 1-5 so you know you had each one. Everything was well packed and the boxes were free from damage. Every part was clearly labeled and I mean EVERY part which made assembly much easier. The owners manual had clear pictures of the assembly process and at no point was I ever unsure of what to do. There are no written instructions but the pictures are all that you need. The instructions say you need at least 2 people and I agree. I was able to do it myself taking about 7 days at 2 hrs per day. The roof beams are definitely where a second person helps. Once assembled the quality amazes me, everything is nicely powder coated and textured looking like its built to last. The best part of the experience was easily the customer service. I'm 50 years old and of all the things I've purchased in my life I cant remember having this level of service. They reached out to me immediately after buying the gazebo and almost every day thereafter until it was assembled. There were two minor imperfection on two parts and they corrected it immediately. They were always available and returned emails promptly. If I had one complaint its minor is with the plastic roof clips that secure to the roof panels. These clips should come with some adhesive backing or thin layer of double sided tape to secure them to the roof panels. As they are they slide onto the panels and fall off constantly when trying to secure the roof panel in place. This was somewhat frustrating so I put my own double sided tape on it which held them in place. Having said that it's still a 5 star buy and worth every penny. It was a hit at my first bbq everyone loved it. Thanks again HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! ... show more
