My husband had it installed in only a matter of minutes! I decided to use LED bulbs in the fixture so we wouldn't have to constantly drag out the ladder to replace burned out bulbs. There are equivalent LED bulbs with a clear globe, but I thought it would look better to have a frosted appearance than to be seeing the inner workings of the bulbs. We moved into this house 30+ years ago and these were the hall ceiling lights throughout the house. Not a moments' problem with them. This year we were removing some items from a bedroom and raised the railing too high, hitting and breaking the light. So, we had to get a replacement and were amazed to find it on Amazon. So when we wanted to replace two upstairs flushmount fixtures, we saw these and didn't think they'd be as good. They're even MORE beautiful! A lot of homes built during the 1980s and 1990a have carriage-style ceiling lights very similar to this one. The originals are cheap, and the plastic sockets crack over time. This is a nice improvement. Somewhat larger, brighter, and more attractive. One tip: your original bulbs may not fit in this one as it is completely enclosed while the older versions are open bottom. Measure the clearance before you buy bulbs. I had a handyman install it, but he showed me what to do and it's pretty simply if you're willing to get up on a foot ladder. Don't throw out the fuzzy material that appears to be packaging. It's actually insulation that goes between the lights and the ceiling. ... show more
