Description

This short handled Catalyst Polytip Bristle brush by Princeton features a size 8 filbert head. Catalyst brushes are designed with a stiff yet still extremely responsive synthetic hair that has real integrity in water. Each individual hair has been split to replicate the natural flags on the finest natural bristle. Designed for use with medium to heavy-bodied acrylics and oil paints, catalyst is able to hold a higher volume of paint while providing a smoother application. Catalyst Polytip Bristle brushes are another Princeton breakthrough that advances the science of synthetic hair. This new series is super stiff yet still extremely responsive. Unlike natural hog bristle, Catalyst has real integrity in water. Natural bristle can be rendered useless when it is water-soaked. The true advance in Catalyst is the Polytip feature. For the first time, the tip of each individual hair has been split to replicate the natural flags on the finest natural bristle. By giving each individual hair 2 to 3 distinct tips, Catalyst is able to hold a higher volume of paint while providing a smoother application. Designed for use with medium to heavy-bodied acrylics and oil paints, Catalyst pushes even heavy gel media with assurance. Catalyst Polytip Bristle brushes truly are tools that move paint.

  • Perfect for collage
Size: Size 8 Color: Light Wood
The artist, elizabeth saint hilaire recommends this brush for applying medium to papers for collage art. I have found it to be excellent to use for that purpose. It is stiff enough to use to press down as well to help put your papers in place for the collage.

  • an excellent brush and will be worth your money
Size: Size 6 Color: Light Wood
Short version: it is an excellent brush and will be worth your money. Long version: I have tried all sorts of brushes out there... cheap and pricey. I purchased the #6 Filbert (short handle) and absolutely love my new brush. I’ve only had it for a few days but it’s been subjected to lots of oil paint and cleaning, and I am pleased to say it does not splay like a natural hog bristle brush would after the extensive use/washing I’ve put it through. I’ve noticed other brushes separate when wet/in use but this one does not and I am very glad for that. The brush also has the perfect balance of softness and spring, especially for my firm oil paints. I honestly never considered purchasing a half synthetic / half natural bristle brush but I am glad that I purchased this brush. In just a few days I’ve come to the conclusion that it was worth the money I paid for it, and I will certainly purchase these brushes again in the future. I have not tried it with acrylics yet but am almost certain it would perform just as well. ... show more

  • Excellent quality
Size: Size 8 Color: Light Wood
I purchased this for my daughter to use, at her request, for a collage project assigned in one of her art classes. It came highly recommended as a good, stiff brush suitable for application of Mod Podge. She really liked using it, saying it felt good in her hand (handle was just the right length), spread the Mod Podge evenly, and the stiff bristles were also ideal for smoothing her homemade tissue prints onto the canvas. She noticed it did not shed bristles as she worked - it is really very well made. The brush cleaned up nicely and still looks brand new even after being used for a large collage project. This should last the entirety of art school - and beyond. ... show more

  • Quality, but not as stiff as I expected.
Size: Size 8 Color: Light Wood
Quality brush. I agree with someone who said it is not as stiff as the description suggests. For example, it is not firm enough for Yes paste, but great for working with various mediums.

  • Very nice brush
Size: Size 6 Color: Light Wood
This is a sturdy, well-shaped brush with moderate spring. I have been using it to detail the edges of window and door trim with latex paint. So far, no loose hairs, no split bristle, and no loss of shaped edge.

  • Good brushes
Size: Size 4 Color: Light Wood
I read a book called A painting a Day. The author wrote about these brushes. I like them they're well made. I haven't had any problems with the bristles being flimsy or uneven. They're relatively inexpensive, but if you take care of them they last.
