  • This is a great kitchen appliance
Style: Skillet
This is a great kitchen appliance, one that I have been missing for a while since my last one (not this brand/model) was destroyed by my ex-wife (hint to the reader or spouses thereof - don't leave these things sitting overnight soaking in water. It's really not good for the skillet or the marriage). This was the first thing I bought after our divorce - okay, just kidding, we didn't divorce, but she did destroy it that way, and the instructions tell you not to do that. Wait until it is cool, then gently clean with soap and water - I was very guilty with our last one of not waiting until it was cool. I know this isn't supposed to be an instructional review on cleaning, but this is key to the skillet actually lasting a long time. People often kill their skillets by cleaning them incorrectly, or using metal utensils on the surface. Read the instructions. Functionally, it is great. I like that it can fold into a small space, but I agree with other reviewers that putting the handles inside of the base is asking for a scraped-up surface. I put a dishcloth between the two for a while (and cautioned the wife to do the same), but have now given up on storing it folded up - dishcloths aren't always handy. Seems to heat pretty evenly to me, and the pour spout is definitely helpful since it doesn't drip back on itself down the side when you use it. I haven't noticed a catastrophic loss of heat through the drain spout, but I am not trying to use it as a steamer. I find it nice to be able to remove the top without having a killer puff of steam lounging at you, followed by splattering oil as the water from the top drips down into the skillet. There is still some buildup, but the spout helps reduce that. Looks nice, large cooking area (great for my big family), easy to clean - it's a winner. I've had to use the cast iron skillet since the last electric skillet broke, and this is infinitely easier to cook with (to me - others may disagree and say I just need to learn how to use a cast iron skillet). It was a long, rough road without it, but she's back now along with the joy of cooking. :) ... show more

  • WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!
Style: Skillet
I've used this Presto 16" electric Skillet now for 3 weeks, and just love it. There are only two of us in our household so I considered the 12", but am so glad I opted to go with the larger size because you'll need it if you're cooking for even 3 people or if you want to keep foods separate while cooking. The long rectangular shape (vs circular or square) makes it much easier to keep individual foods apart while cooking. Example - shape is especially helpful when cooking things like eggs, individual hamburger patties, hashbrowns, chinese fried somen noodles, Chinese fried rice, or when you want to cook different meats in the same pan at the same time but without blending juices - like shrimp and sausage for jambalaya. And you don't need to pull out the biggest pan in your arsenal just to lightly brown one of those huge flour burritos. (Husband loves burritos). The skilled holds one big one and quickly browns each side. PLUS the cleanup is so much easier (just wipe it out) than with a stove pan. Must say -- I will never give up on my cast iron for certain things . . . but this skillet is one of the best I've ever owned -- because of the WAY it cooks. It is also becoming my go-to for cooking the individual ingredients that go into the many Chinese dishes I cook, and the rice portion of fried rice now goes in here instead of my WOK to fry. Breakfast is great cooked in this skillet. Eggs fry beautifully with or without added grease/butter. Bacon crisps. And . . . I can't say enough about how wonderful the Hash Browns turn out -- can't explain why, but they are so much better than when I cook them on the stove. In this Presto cooker, they are thin, crispy but also cooked inside. That alone has been worth the price of admission but it's worked well with all the meals I've tried. Tues night is breakfast at my house for family. This skilled is a great addition for that evening especially. So far I'm finding the skillet heats very evenly all over the surface despite comments from others. When simmering, it does start/stop bubbling, but it's designed to do this (read instructions). The skillet comes to temperature VERY quickly, and simmers, fries, and even steams effectively. Haven't yet tried cooking any desserts in here. One of the best features I like vs stove cooking is one that isn't even mentioned -- that is -- that there are fewer food odors produced that linger in the room than stove cooking, and even using the same cooking oil, there is less smoke produced. Yep - I'd buy this again. The ONLY downside I've yet found is that it is large, but considering how well it cooks, I think I'll just rearrange the cupboards to make room. ... show more

  • Large Cooking Surface
Style: Skillet
Works like a charm. Very well made and easy to clean. Larger than electric skillets I have had in the past, but that is a plus as far as I'm concerned. I really like that the skillet detaches from the base and how it can be stored inside the unit. Worth every penny.

  • Nice except for heat distribution.
Style: Skillet
Nice looking. Simple to use. Stores compactly. Easily cleaned, even in dishwasher. The pouring spout is handy. But: as you can see from my batch of latkes (potato pancakes) at 350 degrees, just turned over, the ones in the center are still white, while the ones around the perimeter are nicely browned. The heat distribution is poor and un-even. I can compensate for this while cooking, but it's something to bear in mind. ... show more

  • Great skillet
Style: Skillet
We love this electric skillet! It comes apart easily for storage and is large enough to hold 8 hamburgers. It also can go in the dishwasher for easy cleanup. Just what we were looking for. I recommend it.

  • Great size
Style: Skillet
I love the size. I used it the for first time to make chicken fried steak and it worked so well and made the job so much easier. I bought it for the ease of cleaning, cost and I love the spout. The spout made it easy to drain the oil.

  • Great
Style: Skillet
House spouse requested a new electric griddle since theirs was pretty broken and run down. I like the size of it as it's a little bigger than what we have available in stores close to us. Glass lid fits well in dishwasher and washes well. Cooking plate is nice and lightweight and has stood up with multiple uses. Gets hot fast and stays hot ... show more
