  • Wow, very surprised!
I always knew President Electronics manufactured great equipment. So when I went to revive my old Courier Gladiator sideband CB. I found the New Virginia antenna might fit my needs on a modern car (with no bumpers to mount to per se.) I am quite surprised by the quality and output from this antenna. Field strength is phenomenal and the the pre tuned antenna gives very low SWR readings when mounted on the lower channels. Very pleased!!! ... show more

  • Acceptable antenna.
For such a short antenna it does well. Range is variable, based on geographic location. It isnt as good as a longer antenna; but it performs acceptably. Installs easily. SWR is right where it needs to be. Won't present a problem with parking garages, due to its length and tilt.

  • works well
Getting a 1.5 SWR reading on both channels 1 & 40. Works much better than the firefly's 3-foot, tunable CB antenna that I have which cannot achieve a 1.5 SWR reading no matter what I do. Just bought another New Virginia to replace the lousy tunable antenna that has been plaguing me with SWR readings of 3+.. ... show more

  • Nice surprise performance, but watch out for that flimsy RG-174 that comes with it.
Bought this for my bro-in-law for Christmas 2021. (Too bad that I can''t seem to get one for 2022.) It was pretty much plug & play and worked about as well as those old 20" Center-Load CB antennas of over 30 years ago. However, that very light-duty, flimsy, RG-174 coax cable will have to be dealt with sooner, or later. Do not do hard 90 degree bends, if you can help it. Best, to wrap plastic tape where coax comes into rear of PL-259 connector and where the coax comes-in at the base of the magnet mount antenna, as a stress relief. Still, for what it is, from 1 to 10 miles between mobiles, and about 15 miles from base to mobile, isn't too bad at all. ... show more

  • Should have bought this one first.
Wasted $20 on a cheap antenna that had poor reception. This one is much better. Adjust SWR at installation.

  • If the antenna is what’s keeping you from installing a radio, look no further!
If you give this antenna anything less than 5 stars it’s because you either don’t know anything about CB (or radio in general) or your setup is all wrong. This antenna is never going to perform as well as a large whip or fiberglass antenna, but you should know that going into it with only 20 inches of antenna. You can create electrical length all you want but physical length is what counts with receiving. So now having said all that, if you either don’t want a large whip antenna for aesthetic reasons or can’t have one because of garages, then this is the antenna for you. I installed this today on my dad’s F150. I’m using it with a President Bill radio and a RM Italy KL203P amplifier. The amp runs about 100ish watts and has a pre-amp, so it does boost the receive a bit. I had a crystal clear conversation today with a guy that was 2.5 miles line of sight. I would say without a pre-amp that would be about the best you can expect out of this antenna, but chances are if you’re looking at an antenna like this, that’s about all you would need. As a comparison, before this antenna I was using a Larsen NMO27B and was talking to a guy who was 12 miles line of sight from me. That antenna is a 49” base loaded whip so it is two and a half times the length of this antenna. I would say with a pre-amp you can expect maybe out to 5ish miles in good conditions on this antenna. Also, my SWR on channel 1 was 1.3:1, on 40 it was 1.5:1, and on 19 it was 1.1:1. Surprising on an antenna this short, super surprising on a magnet mounted antenna this short. ... show more

  • Cord too short for SUV mounting
The cord was too short to mount at the rear roof of my SUV, so I had to order a PL-259 Male to SO-239 Female cord to wire up the CB at the front. SWR at Ch 1 is around 1, 1.5 at Ch 40, and around 1 at Ch 19. Connections at PL259/SO239 are snug without issues. Receive seems good so far, but very condition dependent. I ran my usual course in the city where I do my GMRS tests and got the typical 1/2 mile to 1 mile range I've read from other reviews. I'll reserve judgment on range until after I get some interstate miles on this one. I mounted the antenna at the back right corner of my Jeep Liberty. The magnet is very strong and can be difficult to remove, but that's a good thing. I was worried about how loose the antenna might be at the swivel point, but there are rigid lock points that hopefully won't wear out over time. The height should be fine, but I am going to watch it around low limbs and parking garages. I'm satisfied so far, except for the cable length issue. ... show more

  • Worth the extra cash and reaches out for such a small unit!
Great little mag mount for the money! Sticks great on my Jeep Grand Cherokee roof & still fits in my garage!
