I have owned many of these type bars. This is the best and my favorite out of all of them.
I bought this power strip over a year ago. It has been steadily doing it's job all along. We had a surge happen when an electrical problem happened on the same circuit that our computers, etc were plugged into this. It tripped and I believe saved our electronics because we didn't lose any of them. The motherboards in our microwave, oven and dishwasher were not that fortunate though. It has a really good thick cord and built really well. It does not feel like one of those cheap ones that you get sometimes. I especially like the charger ports and that there are plenty and it even goes up to the usb-c that the newer iPhone and other electronics use. One of my favorite aspects is the space it leaves for brick type plug ins and regular types. Most power bars leave little if any room for other plugs to be put in the center inputs once you put the big plug in the side. This one leaves plenty of room and has multiple plugs to be used. It is really a great design. I am reviewing this now, because I am buying another one right now. The other is fine, but I moved to a different area and the other one is use where it is. I like this surge protector so much I checked my history to find it again. I recommend this. It is big and heavy, but it is worth getting and you can have peace of mind with it. ... show more

Has all you could want...However

So, I got this power strip because it fulfilled all the requirements I needed. Things were quickly getting out of control with two power strips already at my desk to accommodate all of the things plugged in. The biggest problem was the amount of power adapters (wall warts) I had which impeded a lot of my plugs on my already crowded power strips. The floor was overrun with cords and power strips. And also, when I needed a temporary plug for something I needed to plug in, bending over constantly to plug something in, and then having to hold the power strip down while I unplugged it was getting old...fast. So I needed these requirements: 1) A single power strip / surge protector for everything to plug into. Especially one where there is an allowance for multiple power adapters. 2) Wall mountable 3) USB ports (some of my devices use USB power 4) Enough power ports where I could have spares to plug in temporary devices without unplugging anything else. 5) Enough plugs to expand my devices further This provided on all fronts. The ONLY gripe I have is the fact that the wall mounting holes on the back of the power strip were so shallow and the plastic was so thick, it was almost impossible to fit even the smallest of wall anchor screw head in. They give you screws in the package, but they are just really tiny screws that aren't anchors. You need anchors for a power strip of this size if you do not want it to just fall off the wall with the slightest tug. What I ended up doing was I took a tiny flat head screwdriver and pried on the plastic a little to make more room for a anchor screw to fit. And it worked out okay. Overall this is a nice power strip for the money. I would recommend it if you don't mind doing a little plastic bending to wall mount it, if that's what you need too. ... show more

Concerned about the complaints that the depow power strip trips off prematurely and makes a burning smell, I intentionally overloaded it with a coffee brewer and a 1500 watt space heater set to max heat. The power strip tripped off as it should. There was a smell but it was the cheap 16 AWG cord on the heater that got hot and smelled, not the power strip. Good to know. I'll replace the cheap cord on the heater with a 14 or maybe 12 AWG cord and UL plug. This thing is a beast! It's about half the size of a boogy board, tho I probably won't go body surfing with it. Twenty four power sockets is overkill, but it allows for large wall warts and other things that cover sockets without running out of them or daisy chaining a power strip. Kudos to Depow for installing a power cord that matches the power claims. The power cord for this device is embossed with '14AWG,' (American Wire Gauge) which means it is capable of 15 Amps/1800 Watt loads at 120 volts without overheating, and matches the 15A switch/breaker. Many inexpensive power strips claim 15 Amps/1800, but arrived with 16AWG (American wire gauge) power cords. The smaller 16 AWG is rated for 10 Amps/1200 watts without overheating, so sellers who advertise them as 15 Amp devices are dishonest. Fortunately, few users actually push the limit, but for those who do (one 1500 watt microwave will do) complain of tripped breakers or the smell of burned stuff and hot power cords. The ad copy doesn't say how fire resistant the plastic Depow box is. When it comes to surge suppression, I consider the Tripp Light Isobar Ultra Diagnostic Surge supressor an industry standard. It would be gooder if they were PowerIQ and PD capable, but dedicated PD/IQ wall warts are fairly inexpensive. I removed the Depow rear cover to have a look at the MOV devices, but the power board is installed in a way that I couldn't see them. I think the device is well built and might survive a fall or two. *A surge isolator, also known as a surge protector, uses a metal oxide varistor (MOV) to absorb excess voltage and divert it to the ground wire. MOVs are made of oxide sandwiched between semi-conductors, and act like a voltage-controlled switch that insulates with line voltage. When the voltage rises above the MOV's reference voltage, the MOV blocks go into conduction, and when the voltage drops below the reference voltage, the conduction ends. The MOV deteriorates each time it conducts, so with time, it no longer protects the circuit and must be replaced. ... show more
