  • It's not perfect, but it's better than 4 stars
Style: Leaf Blower
If I could give this machine a 4.5 star rating I would. It's not perfect, but it's better than 4 stars, hence MY 5 star rating. I refuse to error on the lower side of life, and will always be a glass half full kind of person, so take that as you may. I've only used the machine 3 times in the week I've owned it. A few things that I REALLY LIKE about the machine. A. PRICE. I paid 196ish... for this backpack leaf blower, at the time of this review, and it is the cheapest I've seen. 1. Overall look (black and yellow) for me is very appealing and SHARP. What can I say? Aesthetics are not near as important as function, but I.M.O. this is the best looking backpack leaf blower on the market! It just looks good. 2. The backpack is lightweight and I've used it for MULTIPLE hours with ease of use, and overall comfort. 3. The gas tank allows the machine to run on heavy use for a long time. It lasted at least an hour and half full bore, and more like 2 and half on moderate use for me. 4. The response from the trigger is instant and easily adjusted and maintained with cruise control. 5. The hose is screwed together and will not come apart easily like other blowers I've used in the past. 6. The backpack itself is fairly compact and easily stored. The minor annoyances (not bad) just annoyances. 1. The directions to put the machine together are about as good as the charmin extra soft you use to wipe your @** with. It took me 15 minutes and it should've taken about 3. For goodness sakes people why don't companies jump into the 21st century and just post a youtube video of one of the company members putting their product together out of the box? Would it be that hard? 2. The machine is LOUD. The backpack is right by your ears. You will probably want hearing protection, but it is a 48 cc engine and you have to sacrifice a little loudness for the extra horses to run. 3. The machine has fired up for me every single time using the instructions to start it. Instructions read "pump the primer bulb 6 times, pull choke out, pull cord three times, pump 4 more times, pull 3 times and push choke in".... or close to that.... you see where I'm going with this. It's just like every other 2 cycle engine out their. They sometimes can be a pain to start. I haven't had any issues with it, and if memory serves correctly .... it fired up after the 6 pumps and second pull ,all 5 or 6 times I've started it now, but time will tell if it remains easy to start. I'd love to see some kind of electric start, but for under $200.00 that will probably never happen. 4. The power is tough for me. It does the job well. I've been able to move fairly large piles of leaves, small sticks, and very small rocks at moderate distances.... but I guess I just figured with a 48cc engine, at full bore, I'd need to brace myself for the amount of force coming out.... This is not the case. It's powerful enough to get what I need done, but I wasn't WOWED by all the power. I'd love to see the test results of the box stated 200MPH. 5. I wish poulan made some kind of wall storage, for this unit. It's kind of tough to stow because the extension is long and obtruse. None of these minor annoyances are worth taking a whole star off. I love the machine and hope it lasts me many MANY seasons. I will update the review if needed. ... show more

  • Nice unit
Style: Leaf Blower
Can't speak to longevity, but unit is lightweight, seems well made, and is powerful enough for most homeowner's needs. On sale it is considerably less expensive than Echo, Stihl, etc. Have had a Poulan handheld gas blower for many years with no issues. Decided to use non-ethanol gas exclusively along with full synthetic oil (50:1) in this unit. Have the idea that ethanol gas may cause carb problems if the unit is not used frequently. Only time was will tell. ... show more

  • Good Buy
Style: Leaf Blower
I've had this backpack blower for 2 seasons now. Last season (first season) it started out working great and then it started to do this thing where it seemed like it was starving for fuel. It would struggle to run here and there unless I put the chocke on half way or so. Before buying, I did hear of some type of problem like this with this model, but thought the price was low enough to see if the reviews were true. At some point I was going to pull the carb and see if there was some grains of dirt or sand that somehow got in there and was clogging the needle jet, but last season ended before I could get to that. Fast forward to this season (second) and the problem seems to have worked itself out. I don't have to mess with the choke to keep it running now. It has great power for around my house. No problem with leaves, even when heavy from saturation. Full tank seems to last about an hour on full throttle. I used to work in the lawn care industry and I used a Stihl backpack blower. I don't see any difference in the quality of work and power for the model I used to use (can't remember exact model). It has good power, lightweight and definitely easy to use. Long story short, this is a great backpack blower overall and would recommend it to anyone looking to make yard work easier! ... show more

  • Plenty of Power!
Style: Leaf Blower
I am initially very impressed with this blower, especially considering the price. It seems very well built and I have no concerns about it holding up physically. I am concerned about its reliability, only because small engines held to modern environmental measurements, so often prove to be unreliable. If reliability becomes and issue, I'll revise the review. I am absolutely thrilled with the power of this blower. I have pretty much a worse case scenario: Loads of leaves heavily matted by early snowfall that are sopping wet and matted to wet, heavy clay. The worst areas are somewhat slow going, but this thing rips them right out of the clay. It is 100 times easier than trying to rake them out and does much less damage to the grass that remains. I chose this over their handheld model because I have had serious back pain the last several weeks and I didn't think that the weight and pressure from the air on one side at a time would be a good idea. Even if my back returns to normal quickly, I am so happy that I spent the extra $70. The backpack is light and balances well and is very easy to use. It does take 2-4 pulls to get started, primarily because the pull cord has a very short stroke. If the cord were 6"-12" longer, I feel like it would start on pull one or two every time. Also, pulling it to start is a little awkward, because it is light and there is not a great place to hold. The handle on the back is at a wrong balance spot, so I end up holding it down closer to the center of gravity, which is a little closer to the spark plug that I'd prefer. Getting pretty nitpicky here... To avoid problems, I am using ethanol free gas. When input it up for storage, I'll follow a tip I read and will add an entire bottle of ethanol treatment to the empty tank and use the priming bulb to fill the carburetor. I'll try to revisit this review in a year or two. If I run into serious problems, I'll definitely let you know! So far though, it has been a very satisfying purchase! ... show more
