This tool is a great size and is light weight w good ergonomics and well placed switch. Easy to change discs. All these kinds of tools are loud, and this one is about average. I am using it with a metal cut-off wheel and (with speed reduced) the hook & loop discs. The CONS: The switch locks 'on', but can be difficult to unlock to 'off' when wearing gloves. That can be a safety issue. Always remember to wear eye protection and hearing protection when grinding. Lots of debris is being thrown about. I have prescription safety glasses and still wear a full face shield. ... show more

Grinder is great. Just the box in which this is packed, does not give good protection. I had to hammer the whole guard as to open this after this got damaged during its travel.

Best deal out there for a grinder. I’m very hard on power hand tools. I’m not trashing them or throwing them down hard, or pushing too hard, l just use them daily. I use them and expect them to work as hard as I do. Most tools I buy, sadly, don’t measure up. I know I’m buying a low cost grinder here. That said, how long should a low cost grinder work for if all it’s doing is grinding steel? 2 years, maybe 3 years? I’m lucky if I get 6 months out of it. You may ask why I don’t buy a better grinder? I have, many times, and these last just as long as the ones that cost 4 times as much. So, is it me, or the tool companies that no longer make a quality tool that lasts doing the job it’s only designed to do? I don’t know, but I’ve decided that for the money this is the only grinder I’m going to buy. It will last just as long as all the others and if it’s going to die in 6 months anyway, why spend the extra money! I would gladly buy a nicer tool that not only works, but feels good in the hand, and also lasts, but I have not found one, at least not a hand grinder. ... show more

I needed an inexpensive grinder knock down and level out some high points in a concrete floor. I used this Porter Cable with domed diamond disk for grinding masonry. The switch is a little difficult to use. Slide it forward to turn it on and press in on the back of the switch to turn it off. It takes more force than I expected to turn it off. The biggest drawback is the lack of a variable speed dial/switch. It spins up to the max speed of 12,000 rpm... and it kicked up dust everywhere. Since I was using it for a one off job, I decided to beat the hell out of it. After 20 minutes of use, it did get very hot to the touch, but I did manage to get the floor level.     • Power Switch Difficult to Operate

Just started using the last couple weeks to cut concrete blocks with a diamond blade. When I first turned it on there were sparks coming from the shield. Upon checking, noticed the shield was bent. I bent the shield to fix that issue. The on/off switch is difficult to operate and often have to fuss with it to turn off. It has good power and doesn't slow down when cutting and haven't noticed any issues with it overheating. For the price and for what I'm using it for, I'm happy with it. ... show more
