these replace two old craftsman drills which frankly performed beautifully but were completely abused and the chuck just wasn't smooth any more...some of my bits wobbled...so I stepped up and bought these. Looked at DeWalt (my experience with DW customer service for a planer was awful so I was reluctant, but heck...it's just a drill); Ryobi, because for some reason I have a dozen batteries and chargers from ryobi...blah blah blah. Look...let's face it...this stuff is probably all made in the exact same factory in China. This kit was very nice. Never had an impact driver but I like it. Both work extremely well. I like the low profile battery charger. Wish the batteries (included 2) had a power meter but If one runs out I have the other...and I like - as a small touch - the small clip on the handle where you can store a driver. ... show more

    • Excellent drill/driver combo at a very good price

I have one other cordless drill (bought as an afterthought when I was doing a project where I needed 3 drills simultaneously to avoid the hassle of bit changing). I fell in love with it, and decided to get a combo pack like this one. The quality is excellent, and I have used these on several projects so far. While the batteries are the 1.5 Amp-hour (not the 4) and while there's no battery gauge on these, that isn't a problem. The drill driver is excellent, and the release mechanism (which pops the bit out) is better than the one on the other driver I have used. BOTH are excellent and I love them (and I have stopped using my corded drills almost completely because they're so convenient). If I had to do a large number of large screws (as in when I was helping a friend build his boat), I'd use my heavy-duty 1/2" D-handle drill. Otherwise these are sufficiently powerful for everything I've tried, they aren't too heavy to use comfortably overhead for long periods, and they are just small enough to use in places where otherwise I would have had to drop down to an old 1/4" drill I have. I got these on sale at a very good price, and I'm completely satisfied. They do what they're supposed to (and the carry bag was a nice "extra" which I hadn't anticipated needing or using and now I find to be very useful, too). Lightweight and rugged. Great value for the money. Only cons for me is there is no belt clip included like the previous version but it's available as a separate purchase and the battery holds up while using but does not seem to have a great stand-by time. We use the drill model daily so it's charged every other day. The impact driver we use sporadically (weekly at most) but the battery is always dead. We have to grab the other drill and swap the battery around so we thought it was a bad battery. Nope. The "good" battery does the same thing if left in the impact driver. So now we pull the battery off the bottom and it works fine when we pop it back on. Just silly that leaving it on the impact, the battery will not stay charged. This is the 3rd set of these we have had between work and home so still enjoy using them quirks and all. ... show more

For the money, this is a great combo set. I purchased this drill to use at work. I have been using this drill to start a gas liquid transfer pump we have at my job. I have a bad back, and this engine is a pain to start. So pulling on the recoil starter is not good for me. On setting 1, it has sufficient torque but not enough speed for my particular needs. Speed 2, seems just fast enough to turn the motor over and get it running. This drill is a life saver, or back saver, that quite frankly I couldn't live without at this point in my life, and for my needs works perfectly. I have an expensive Dewalt drill and impact. Cost me over $300 just for the drill and $120 for the impact driver. Now I will say that you do get what you pay for. There are many obvious build qualities in the Dewalt that surpass this Porter Cable. For instance, the chuck on my Dewalt is metal, this Porter Cable is plastic. The actual size of the drills too, this Porter Cable is much smaller than my black and yellow one. I'm am by no means saying that makes it a bad tool, just not a heavy duty tool. I didn't want to ruin my good drill on the job, so that's why I bought this one. However, for a regular person or homeowner, I think this is a great drill. I did take off 1 star because of the batteries. A 1.3 amp hour battery is not sufficient and seems cheaply made. With both batteries, thats 2.6 amp hours of work time, my Dewalt is two 3.0 amp hours(which I have 4 of because I bought my drill and impact separately) . But again the price reflects that. I am not using the carry bag that came with it, I prefer hard cases, especially in my work truck. I'm using a Dewalt power tool case and Stanley power inverter I purchased as well here on Amazon. Overall though, I'm extremely satisfied with the build and price of this drill and, I am considering purchasing a second one for home as a backup. ... show more
