*Update - lowering to 3 stars. Twice now I've turned it on and nothing happens. Just sits there dead with the power light on. Have to cycle through the modes to get it to kick on and start cooling. What's up with this? Thought maybe it needed a short time to warm up or something but let it sit and nothing happens until I turned on fan mode which worked then switched back to cooling mode which then worked. It's not an easy item to return and I don't have the box. Hope I'm just missing something and it's not a bad unit. Works well otherwise. Using in my living room to blow cool air into my music room. Original window AC in my bedroom and the air just doesn't make it around to my music room. This is doing the job well, blows nice cool air and actually keeps the whole apartment feeling cool. My one complaint is they should include two sliding slats. The one included will not work correctly with windows between 26-33" as the vent hole will be covered partly - and that also is only if you reverse the slide in, which I had to do but luckily mine isn't blocking the vent. My window is 33.5" and if I orient the slider like it's supposed to be it won't fit my window as the slat hits the plastic vent housing. Flipping the slat the opposite way so that the smooth side faces outside it lets the slat slip over the plastic housing and fit in place correctly. So they should include two sizes, otherwise the solution is to hacksaw the plastic slat to cut off a bit and make it fit. I took agree you absolutely MUST put some duct tape around the plastic vent tube where it meets the plastic end as I was feeling hot air escaping around the tube. Once you tape it up you'll be good. The new standard for BTU lists this on the energy guide sticker it comes with as 6000 BTU but that's normal due to the standards change. Anyhoo, really liking this AC so far.

Works very well but the hose is flimsy and hard to get and keep connected. Don't move it around once it's established.

What am I doing wrong? This is the third portable air conditioner that I try. Every single one of them was totally unable to cool a 13x9 room. This air conditioner had 4.7 Stars so I thought it was a safe bet. Lowest temperature I can get is 78 degrees and that's at night. During the day, if it reaches 90° outside, the small room will only get down to 82°. I must be doing something wrong with three for three not doing the job. Maybe I'm being unfair by giving it only one star seeing so many other people rated it very highly but I have to give a review based on my experience. UPDATE: that does it! This portable AC has been on for 2 hours, set to cool and high fan speed. It is 84 outside and 81 inside. Totally worthless. Also tried setting it to dehumidify. That works great. Filled up with 3 gallon bucket in a few hours. I don't know where all that moisture is coming from in the small room. It's going back.
