  • My experience and why I gave this product a 4 out of 5
My motivation for purchasing the Professional #1 Best Lavalier Lapel Microphone is predominantly to capture quality sound to go along with the videos I shoot. Initially and in part due to the low cost of the product my expectations were not immediately high, but I felt that I had nothing to lose especially since my DSLR camera is not capable of capturing usable audio. My expectations for this product were for it to be physically lightweight, quick and easy to use and set up, and to be able to capture decent audio and function properly for on camera interviews. I already knew my IPhone6 recorded great audio if placed in the right spot, but in order to step my game up professionally I wanted the option of using a lavaliere microphone for interviews. I wanted something cheap but to still be able to give me quality sound similar to my IPhone6. I purchased this microphone about four months ago and have unfortunately only been able to use it a handful of times due to my busy schedule. However, in the instances that I have used it, majority of the time it has proven to function properly. The matte black cable and lapel clip provide a way to easily hide the technology when using it. The Omnidirectional Condenser microphone that is attached to the 59” (1.5m) cable is just as compact as a standard pair of Apple headphones, while also fitting the 3.5mm headphone jack that is universal for most smart devices. I do not recall receiving any directions accompanying the product, but the set up and usage was fairly easy to interpret. In my experience with the product I used an app with which to record and store my audio that was previously installed on my IPhone6 called, “voice memo.” Once this app was opened I inserted the cable into the jack as if they were headphones and then hit record. I instantly could see the sound being picked up thus indicating its initial functionality. This product seems to work effectively and most efficiently when paired with a mobile phone. I tried once to connect it to my Macbook Pro laptop but it did not show it was recording anything. My assumption is that there is a setting that needs to be changed in the preferences of my laptop in order to tell the computer to use the jack for recording audio and not listening. If you do not have a program for recording sound already open this may cause difficulties in functionality as well. There were two instances when the microphone simply did not record sound while being plugged in to my mobile phone. This was a concern of mine because when you are in the field and on the go there is no time for your audio recorder to not work. One option for temporarily fixing this problem is by unplugging the cable and then plugging it in again. This product is just one way to combine a cheap price with professionally capable equipment. Recording sound is the purpose for this product and in the few times I have tested it out I have paid special attention to background noise pick up and its sensitivity ranges. These are important aspects to think about because once the audio is captured there is only so much you can do in postproduction to correct it. I have attached audio files demonstrating voice and sound captured with the microphone and also without it (using my cell phone’s built-in microphone). You can hear the recordings by copy and pasting my Soundcloud link, see audio tracks 1 and 2 to compare close sensitivity, track 2 has the tendency to capture too much audio at once while track one uses the windscreen on the lapel microphone. See audio tracks 3 and 4 to compare the distance sensitivity. You can especially notice the difference in background noise and clarity of my voice. The final two clips measure pitch, the low rumble of cars 30 feet away from me and the sharp sound of clanking keys. I have not tried out any other cheap microphones besides the built in one from my mobile phone and the built in one on my DSLR camera. Out of these options the omnidirectional condenser microphone and my mobile phones built in microphone, I’d say that they are similar in sensitivity range and sound pick up. The downfall to using your mobile phone is that visually it is unprofessional. This product is essentially a professional extension to the audio recorder you have in your smart device. Overall I like this product and recommend it as a quick alternative to capturing audio. This product appeals to audiences interested in technology, videography and sound recording. With today’s technology each individual can capture quality audio recording from his or her smart phone or device. The situations where this microphone would work best would be for interview recording, vocal recording or for capturing sound in difficult or hard to reach places. For people who do not have an audio jack built in to their camera body this cheap product serves as a great alternative to professionally capturing quality audio. Audio 1: Saying the ABCs using lapel microphone clipped on left lapel 5 inches down from chin. In this audio file I clipped the microphone 5-6 inches down from my chin onto my lapel or collard shirt. I spoke in the direction forward of me and did not move my head to either side while speaking. Audio 2: Saying the ABCs with built in mobile phone microphone on the left lapel 5 inches down from chin. In this audio file I held my mobile phone in the same position as the lapel microphone and spoke with the same criteria. In cases where a person has a relatively high shirt pocket a phone can be used to capture audio from there as well. Audio 3: Saying the ABCs 6-10 feet away with lapel microphone. You can tell the slight difference in the clarity of my voice and footsteps when using the lapel microphone. Audio 4: Saying the ABCs 6-10 feet away using mobile phone built in microphone. The audio recording without the microphone captures more static tends to draw an echo from where I was standing (Potentially can depend on environment settings). Audio 5: Cars driving by, slight rain, approximately 30 feet away and using a lapel microphone. In this audio file I was standing at a far distance from the street as cars passed by and rain drizzled down. Audio 6: Car keys jiggling 6 inches above lapel microphone. In this audio file I got closer to the microphone to see how it would pick up a higher pitch generated jiggling my car keys. Link to hear audio! [...] ... show more

  • Sensitive, Good Audio
This arrived today and a quick test confirms that it will meet my needs. I'm using this mic with my Sony ICD-UX570 Digital Voice Recorder. Here are a few things that I wasn't sure about in case you have the same questions: 1. The mic cord is equipped with a 3.5 mm tip-ring-ring-sleeve (TRRS) plug. An adapter is provided to convert it to 3.5 mm TRS. I have to use the adapter in order for it to work with my Sony DVR. 2. Although the mic is mono, it feeds both the right and left channels on the recorder. Since I'm using this for voice dictation that's fine for my application. 3. The mic has excellent sensitivity. I am using the lowest sensitivity setting and still get lots of audio input. 4. With the Sony, any time I plug in an external source I'm given the option to select Mic or External. Mic is the proper selection for this mic (External requires a higher level input, such as from a radio's headphone jack). The only objection I have is that with the adapter installed the plug is quite long for use with my tiny recorder and I will need to be careful not to put too much stress on the recorder's jack. A right angle TRS plug on the cord would have been ideal. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Used this for a podcast class to track my voice, but also interview others in the field. Captured the other person’s voice in a loud carnival with me holding it close to them, but made my voice sound terrible lol but I didn’t need my audio for that. For self-audio it works best in a more stable environment, not good for cars or movement, but good for sitting/standing and tracking. The little clip is useful. Does reduce noise a bit, much better audio than a phone’s mic (I have an iPhone). ... show more

  • Great mic at a great price point
Great little lavaliere mic. I have tried it in a Zoom voice recorder (H4n) and in an iPhone (13 pro max). Sounds as good or better than other more expensive lavaliere mics I have used. It is sensitive, but does cut down on background noise. I even ended up turning my mic sensitivity down. The only negative (and it is a picky negative) is I wish the Stereo TRS adapter would have been in an “L” shape instead of a straight adapter. Excellent Mic for the money. Buy without hesitation. ... show more

  • Good quality for price
Quality is acceptable, length is more than long enough for my sitting down and filming. Noise cancellation is also acceptable.

  • Takes your audio to the next level
I’m still getting used to using it but it makes a HUGE difference than recording audio without. I got it to make short videos and voiceovers. Definitely worth the purchase
