This is a must have upgrade to the Tacoma. I don't know why Toyota chose not to have this from the factory. Even when the tailgate is removable they could have made a quick disconnect for a cable to hook up the lock to the rest of the car. Toyota is cheap that way. This kit is high quality, easily installed, and works really well. I am pretty handy and comfortable with DIY and it took me about 30 mins from start to finish. Worked the first time after I hooked everything up. With this I no longer worry about breaking the factory lock core on my tailgate which has started to go bad. I should have had this installed yesterday.

Works flawlessly. Install was easy, for the most part... The video instructions said to follow the main harness line under the truck and attach the long cable to it with zip ties. The problem is the main harness becomes un-accessible halfway down and is obstructed by bars, panels, ect... you cannot see up there, let alone get a hand in there. I could have had the unit installed in probably 40-minutes if this weren't an issue, but ended up taking 2-hrs... the instructions were also fairly vague. They don't show diagrams or focus the camera on the orientation of what they are doing while giving verbal directions. however, it becomes self-explanatory as you start to fit the parts in place.

Look people are gonna buy regardless but I want to let yall know I bought this product in June 2024 for $90. Barely been 6 months and the product has increased by $50 to now $140 in November 2024. They can't blame inflation or economics, it's just pure greed. Look at other companies before you give them your cash. I guess great, it's an American made product but still they were making a profit 6 months ago too. Greed. And yeah the product works, is great, and fairly simple to install within an hour.

When I first bought pop and lock, I didn’t know if I could install it. I didn’t wanna mess anything up or blow a fuse, so I waited for about a month to install it myself. First, I gotta say, it has been my best purchase for my Tacoma. I thought I could get used to using my key for the tailgate, but at some point, it got too inconvenient for me, so I went ahead and purchased pop and lock. Installation was easy and straightforward. You could watch YouTube videos. I used Chloe Kuo’s tutorial to help me with the installation. Make sure you use zip ties on spots where you can access the wires. If you’re a little hesitant to buy this, I assure you, the convenience is day and night. You can still use your regular key to unlock or lock the tailgate even with pop and lock installed.

This secures theft of your tail gate and tail lights even if you don't have a Tonneau top and use your bed as a big truck. I installed in 90 mins. Hardest part was finding the hole to the plug into the cab. Easy install and works great!
