  • Great sub!
Style: HTS 12 Pattern: Subwoofer Set: Subwoofer
Absolutely worth it. I have the denon x3800h avr. This sub is connected via the lfe connection. I have the lpf set at 120, the crossover at 80 (I have polk es60 fronts, es35 center, es10 surround and es10 height(x4) speakers), and the sub itself at half volume and 160 (wide open) hz. This will shake your house with no struggle and no distortion. Highly recommend this sub, especially when it's on sale! ... show more

  • A bit expensive but fantastic sub speaker
Style: HTS SUB 10 Pattern: Subwoofer Set: Subwoofer
I connected this to my Sony AV receiver via the single-cable LFE connection and enabled SW from the AV receiver settings. I am really happy with the purchase. I got this primarily for music, which now sounds fantastic. I have the sub set at around 15% volume/gain. A higher volume punches so hard it shakes my entire house. It's a really powerful sub that gives a lot of depth to music. ... show more

  • Westworld S2 Killed My Old Subwoofer! This one is better!
Style: HTS SUB 10 Pattern: Subwoofer Set: Subwoofer
The good: Wow, rocking bass! Good controls for adjustment. More attractive than anticipated. The Meh: Horrible instruction manual. BIG Had to fiddle with them to get great sound (but it sounds fantastic now) I had a comparably priced Paradigm 10" subwoofer that was fine for years until Westworld season 2 with its amazing low bass music blew it out. I thought it was a great sound effect until I realized it was my shredded subwoofer breaking up. It had a good long life, but I'm not overjoyed I had to replace it. After reading the reviews I opted for this speaker, worried that maybe I should be ordering a 12" this time so I wouldn't be over stressing the speaker. When it arrived I was kind of shocked how big it is, I'm assuming it's also the cabinet for the 12", but with the 10" inside instead to save on production costs. The instruction manual is a typical nightmare of no information about setting it up properly with my system, including illustrations that don't label the parts they are showing, with really unhelpful hints. I simply plugged it in and was rather dismayed that I might have made a bad choice, whomping bass with terrible crossover. So I started searching the internet for how I could use the controls available to help. Luckily there are a number of audio magazines that have online articles about subwoofers! After fiddling with the Low Pass and Phase Switch, I'm getting great sound out of them, I've even turned the subwoofer down a little so I won't rattle windows in a 16' x 25' room. Unfortunately, I'm scared to watch Westworld S2 again in fear of blowing out another speaker... I have to say so far this subwoofer is far superior to a similarly priced (but older) Paradigm it replaced, I really couldn't be happier, but I'm sure the purchasers who don't take the time to play with them, or just give up after reading the horrible instruction manual, may not be enjoying the sound they could be giving. Why companies who put out a good product seem to consistently put out useless instruction manuals, I'll never know, it's a waste of paper. ... show more

  • Good price
Style: MXT12 Pattern: Subwoofer Set: Subwoofer
I bought this product because of the fantastic price of $250, it was selling for $399 so just a great discount! There really isn't a whole lot of info about it, professional reviews/personal reviews. Going into it I knew it was big and would need more space on my wall than I have. Previosuly I was running a polk subwoofer rm something. This is much bigger and can defintely push out more bass. I have it accompanied with bass shakers and currently I am trying to find the right mixture to get what I want. I have adjusted the volume on the sub down because it was rattling my wall and I'm adjusting receiver's sub volume up to get more shake from my shakers. It is defintely a beast and I might reposition to get more from it, but it's pretty cool so far. I honestly could not tell anyone the ins and outs of the subwoofer, but it can move some air. My previous sub it almost seemed like it wasn't there. ... show more

  • For $350 it is a steal. For $500 you can do better
Style: HTS 12 Pattern: Subwoofer Set: Subwoofer
Updated after 2 years of use. I purchased the HTS-12 on sale in 2020 to replace an older Polk sub that failed after about 10 years. True story, no sub lives forever... so think about that before you buy. Probably the biggest reason I opted for this model sub was to match it to the rest of my Polk Signature speakers that are set up in my family room. First of all, the HTS-12 is pretty big (like almost end table big) so make sure that you have the room space to fit it in. If your room is a smaller size, then I'd recommend the HTS-10. This sub was initially set up using the room correction mic that came with my receiver, which is always a good starting point - but over time I have tweaked the settings manually and moved it around the room slightly. The receiver crossovers are set to 80 for the front towers and 100 for the center and rear channels - which sounds right for where they should roll-off. My grades without a curve: Overall Bass Reproduction = B+ LFE Bass for movies = A- LFE Bass for music = B to B+. This is a big ported sub and honestly, its design favors LFE for movies versus music. Clarity = A-. The sound is authoritative, controlled, and not muddy or boomy. Fit, finish design, and construction = A-. It is a handsome piece of equipment. Uses a Class D amp with a composite 4 coil woofer. The cabinet is braced and insulated to dampen resonance. But the finish is a vinyl veneer... which is kind of average for this price point, but just a little disappointing. I do appreciate that this sub has designated LFE input and bypass settings for easy receiver control. In summary: For the price (on sale for $350) this sub can't be beaten. Every sub is a match of size and power to move air and I think the HTS series hits the right balance between these two elements for the price. This HTS-12 sits in my family room which is about 20 x 15 feet with a vaulted ceiling. If the room were any smaller or without a vaulted ceiling I probably would have opted for the HTS-10. For the money, I think it delivers impressive, smooth, and effortless bass without becoming either muddy, boomy, or distorted - when properly set up. Acoustically, I do think that this sub favors home theater setup versus pure HiFi Stereo music which is probably true of all ported subs versus sealed subs. Nevertheless, the response is tight, accurate, and clear enough for me to easily recommend purchasing this sub. However, I do not think that I would have paid the MSRP price of $500 for the HTS-12. All things audio have a rapid and then flat curve of diminishing returns, meaning that once you break out of the low-end price range, every additional dollar spent won't get you the same level of bang for your buck. One of the reasons I purchased this exact sub was to match my other Polk Signature Series speakers in both appearance and sound. I suppose if I wasn't trying to match my other Signature Speakers, I would have easily chosen the Rogers Sound Labs Speedwoofer - which I have set up in my home theater room. The Speed Woofer is a bit smaller but it packs a better punch - especially considering that they are priced about the same. Moreover, I think that the speedwoofer strikes a better balance between music and movies than the Polk. The truth is that Polk makes reasonably priced mass-produced speakers and this sub is an example of that compromise between above-average acoustics, value, and performance. A good sub should blend into the soundstage and disappear acoustically, and the HTS does that very well. The value proposition changes substantially in my mind as the price paid goes up - to the point that I would not pay $500 for this sub since at that price point it begins to compete with more competent and significantly better alternatives for your money. In the end, this sub is worth every penny of the $350 bucks I paid for it, but I wouldn't pay the full price as I do sincerely believe that at the $500 price point you can find better equipment. But if you are looking for a handsome, solid, all-around sub that will deliver above-average low-frequency sound, I believe that the HTS12 hits the sweet spot of price and performance. All the best! ... show more
