It's a decent light for the cost if you simply want to dabble in macro-photography. There are a few issues with it; however, all but the first two don't really affect actual shooting. The issues I've had are: -The ring has almost no grip to the adaptor. It can stay on, yea, but it rotates freely. Because of this, attempting to use the Left/Right function requires you to hold it in place. If the part it physically clips to was more of a polygon or had teeth to it, it would help alleviate this tremendously; however, right now it's just a smooth ring that it can freely spin on. -Maybe this is something standard with ring lights like this as this is my first one, but I don't really notice that much of a difference between the brightness levels. There's some, but not as much as I'd be expecting. -The LED ring will fall out anytime you attempt to change the diffuser color. -If you have the adaptor ring on, you can't fit your lens cover on; when any other lens accessory I've ever used were shaped to allow this. I personally like to keep my cover on anytime I'm not actively shooting, so having to take the whole thing off each time I put my camera down can be a bit annoying. -It uses AA instead of Li-Ion. ... show more

    • Plastic gadget broken, and unable to remove from camera
Ring light flash used for Macro photography. The ring light does a great job for little money, when it works. It has a st of adapter rings to be screwed into you camera where the ring light clips on. The flash itself needs batteries and is sitting on the camera’s flash connector shoe. I had bought this 1.5 years ago and was happy with it, even though the ring frequently fell off the camera and the battery reserve did not always function, showed empty even though it was just refilled. Needed to be removed from camera and reset. With time it is obvious the light plastic device is not going to last. The cover for the ring light itself falls off frequently and battery latch broke so the batteries roll out. The flashlight was always difficult to remove from the camera shoe, however it is now so hopelessly stuck that I see no way to get it off the camera. My husband suggested to sew it off, I’m concerned to destroy my camera with it. ... show more

    • Good for macro photography
I'm in the rare coin and precious metals industry and I mainly use this for photographing "raw" meaning not certified in the plastic holders. It works great for non-reflective items. If you have cases, it will reflect the led array back into the photograph. What's extremely convenient is the ring easily attaches to the lens outer ring with a simple button press for easy removable/placement as needed. It can also be mounted directly to the camera's hot shoe for integration as a flash. What's not so great is it eats batteries. Since I use a copy stand to take fixed position most of the time, I hard wired a variable voltage power adapter (6V) to prevent having to change batteries so often. Works fine.     • It's Alright for the Price
It'll not knock your socks off though. The light is bright, and in light mode it will do its job, which is what I personally was mainly looking for. It attaches easily enough using the correct lens connectors to just about any camera or lens, it provides decent close up light (though it will not replace a proper ring light for video! This is more a light for macro photography, not for youtube/other video content. Look for an 18 inch ring light for that or look for a luxcube/LED cube type of setup for that) for the money. Why the dinged stars then? It is kind of a pain once on, as you can't put any sort of lens filters on there alongside the light adapter. You also will not be able to use your lens cap while its on, meaning you are stuck with it exposed to the elements until you decide to take it off. And finally, the big negative, the flash on this thing DOES NOT have any form of shutter speed adjustment setting. It will not read the speed of the shutter on your camera, nor does it appear to be adjustable Meaning in order to use the flash, you must set your shutter speed to its speed, or else it will flash pre or postmaturely for proper exposure. Annoying, and very much limits the use case for the flash. However, for 30 bucks? The light is good, its not too annoying to use, and it works essentially as advertised. ... show more

I got this light/flash today and I am very satisfied with it. Pros 1. It is bright enough for MACRO photography. The distance is very short. 2. It is easy to use and install once you figure out how to install and use it. 3. It puts light where you need it. 4. The light strength is adjustable. 5. The price. You can see if a ring light is good for you without spending a ton of money. 6. The weight. This thing is super light, compact and will fit is almost any bag. Cons 1. The 55mm lens cap will not fit while this is installed. 2. If you have a lens hood you may have issues. ... show more

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase. The ring flash comes at low cost and gives good color lighting. I was disappointed to find my packaging box contained two 62mm adapters, and no 67mm adapter needed for the lens I would normally shoot with. Also, it's worth noting that when removing lighting control from the hot shoe, it is important to unscrew the fastener until it stops. Otherwise a protruding pin will cause the shoe to hang. It took me a few frustrating tries to understand what was happening and I thought it had damaged my hot shoe. Overall, I would recommend this flash. Amazon is replacing the flash! ... show more
