Good amount of slides for the kids to start learning basics of working a microscope. Probably would of enjoyed them to the full potential but microscope we used from discovery brand wasn't that great of quality. Otherwise we got it setup up looking at samples for an hour. Some samples looked exactly the same so only had a few favs that made it exciting.

Got these for my nieces and nephews to go with the microscope we got then for Christmas. They were very excited about the huge selection of slides to view and had fun going through each of them. It gave them an idea for how to make their own slides as well.

In a nutshell, you get what you pay for here. So I suppose you won't be out any money, but you will have really bad slides. Full of bubbles and slide covers aren't nearly flat enough. The specimens are so small it pretty much makes these very uninteresting to view. Many of them have so much dye, they loose all features. Consider spending more for better slides.

I am a retired scientist and occasionally I provide an introduction to microscopy class for elementary school students. I like to leave the class with slides for further study and I bought these for that purpose. I typically use magnification levels of 60x to 150x for demonstration. Overall I found these slides to be mostly ok. In terms of preparation quality, it’s a mixed bag. Some of them are quite nice (e.g Lily Pollen) and some were really botched (e.g. Dragonfly Wing). Certainly the description on the box that they are ‘Professional Type’ is just wild overstatement. These are hastily produced and contain air bubbles and some mangling of the specimens. But for the price, that's what you should expect. Preparing a slide is time consuming. The selection of specimens was hit and miss. Including are slides that really don’t show much, such as horse hair, sheep hair and cat hair. The ones the kids find interesting are the ones that are ‘pretty’ and light transparent, like onion skins, feathers and leaves. Note that the slides that I received did not match the list in the product description. In particular, I was was disappointed that there was no Daphnia (i.e. Water Flea) slide since that one in particular seems to get kids’ attention. The main goal for me is to get the kids excited enough for follow-up on their own. The slides are made out of plastic and therefore they’re better for use in a school with younger children. Also, the packaging is quite attractive.
