  • Comgrow vs AmazonBasics
The media could not be loaded. Before getting to the Comgrow filament review, I would like to point out that while filament quality do affect the quality of your prints, filament quality can only be assessed if the following has been done: 1) Your printer has been properly assembled (i.e., all parts aligned, leveled, no hardware issues, etc.) and 2) Your slicer settings are optimized for the filament you are using I believe that if the 2 criteria listed above are achieved, most filaments will yield adequate print results, however, some will provide better quality than others. In this review, I will be comparing my observations of this Comgrow filament (tested white, black and blue) vs AmazonBasic’s regular PLA filaments (tried black, white, gray, blue, and red). Key differences are noted below. Comgrow Advertised accuracy: 0.02 mm Advertised temp: 180-210 C Texture: smooth filament Spool: consistently wound, layered Packaging: vacuum sealed w/ desiccant Finish: shinier/glossier than AmazonBasic’s filaments Odor: none Printing: machine sounds smooth, effortless printing (subjective observation), more under extrusion observed vs over extrusion (fixable with splicer settings) Pros: price point is reasonable ($17.99 at the time of this review), prints really well, no residue on the retractor/filament feeder/extruder Cons: few color selection (currently only black and white… I was able to order the blue when it first came out) AmazonBasic’s Advertised accuracy: 0.05 mm Advertised temp: 190-220 C Texture: textured/grainy filament to the touch Spool: not as nicely wound/layered like Comgrow’s Packaging: vacuum sealed w/ desiccant Finish: not shiny or glossy, more like a chalky finish Odor: none Printing: machine sounds like it’s working harder to print, more issues with over extrusion than under extrusion (which can be fixed with slicer settings) Pros: price point is very good for bulk orders (3-pack and 5-packs have averaged me at $10-13 a spool) Cons: so far, print quality is just okay. It’s not bad, but nothing I was in awe about (subjective). Noticeable residue on extruder (see images) CONCLUSION: when slicer settings are optimized, the Comgrow filaments provide very good prints (better that AmazonBasics in my opinion) Comments regarding photos: 1. Everything in the pictures were printed with Comgrow’s filaments, except the Julius Caesar on the RIGHT 2. The black dog was the first thing I printed after setting up my Ender 3 (no optimizing whatsoever) 3. The residue on the extruder is from AmazonBasic's white filament 4. I accidentally broke Monkey D. Luffy’s leg while removing the supports :( ... show more

  • FILAMENT DRYER REVIEW!
Color: Filament Dryer Box Black & Blue Size: PLA
REVIEW UPGRADE from 3 to 5 STARS Monday, August 14, 2023 After adding a 2-Pin FAN PLUG PORT, (neeeded due to the long wire length for DRYER BOX to add any standard 40mm fan). ADDING A (40MM WINSINN 4010 12V Dual Ball Bearing Fan) NO MORE Fan Failure, so there was a fan quality issue, not a wiring electrical issue. AS the unit will be running for many hours non-stop replacing the FAN should be made a simple PLUG & PLAY replacement. Unscrewing and removing the base should not be required. ______________________________________________________________________________________ PREVIOUS OLD REVIEW: The DRYER has the potential to be great. BUT Sadly it's failure is the FAN, though the CUSTOMER SERVICE was 5-STARS! PROBLEM, is FAN FAILURE the FANS constant running in the heated enviroment for some reason destroys the FAN within roughly a week or two. It has to be an electrical wiring failure, because these fans can last over a year working within an enclosed 3D printer with an 110 celsius. So there must be a WIRING electrical issue burning the FAN out??? Or, the last 3 fans were lemons? Highly unlikely - I will upgrade my review to 5-STARS if I can put a FAN in that will last at least 3 solid month (90 days) of use. • Pretty good.
Color: 2*1kg Black & Black Size: PLA
This was my first filament, it's been pretty good. One issue where the filament cracked halfway through a print once. Other than that, it's been consistently reliable and stronger than I expected. I'll update it to 5 stars if I get through the second spool without breaks.

  • The PLA filament is binding on the roll - COMGROW DOES STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS
Color: 1kg Black Size: PLA
FOR SOME REASON IT HAS LEFT THE SAME REVIEW ON AMAZON FOR EVERY SPOOL I BOUGHT FROM AMAZON WHICH IS NOT TRUE There is no Stringing, Bubbles, and Oozing when printing. The PLA filament is binding on the roll, like it is wound too tight. As lond as I sit there and manually unwind the filament as the object is printing everything is fine. If i leave the printer alone for any period of time the filament binds up and stops extruding from the printhead. I have purchased numerous spools of Comgrow PLA and only had an issue with this one. The company is standing behind their products. ... show more

  • Great filament
Color: 1kg Blue Size: PLA
This filament worked good for me. I will admit that at first I had issues with stringing and the filament not adhering to the bed (this was when using an extruder temp of 200 and bed temp of 50). I had to bump those numbers up to 215 for extruder temp and 60 for bed temp and then things came out perfectly. ... show more

  • Comgrow Filament Dryer - Excellent
Color: Filament Dryer Box Black & Blue Size: PLA
Inexpensive and it dries my filament. I could think of some features that would be nice, but at this price point I dont think there is much else you could ask for.

  • So stringy…
Color: 2*1kg Black & White Size: PLA
Very inconsistent extrusion. I was given a spool of filament that worked great and has lasted for a lot longer than I thought when I bought these spools. Well it ran out and I attempted to use these. Well first it wouldn't adhere to the bed. So I messed with settings and got it to stick occasionally. Then it would start work on layer 1 and it would just not come out of the nozzle consistently. I removed and cleaned it and still got crappy results with both black and white spool. Way past my window to return so not sure what I will do with them. If you are new like me to the hobby make sure to get reliable materials because a quick material change can quickly turn into 5 hours of start/stop … adjust…restart/stop… clean the bed… Ithink you see where I am going with this! ... show more
