I say may not be do to the fact. I am not that but with that said. I see no reason why most to go fly fishing won't like this reel.Lets face the real facts. The bulk of a fly reels job is to hold line. In some cases with larger fish this may not be a ideal reel do to the drag setup. Like for salt water where you can easily get into large fish fast. For the average person after trout and pan fish this reel you wont beat for the price or craftsmanship. This reel will hold up to salt water. What I dont need to know is why some fly rels cost so much money! A waste of your time and money.Pay for a name. BUt not in all cases you may pay for nothing more than to make anothers wallet heavier. The same can be saids for real expensive rods.More craftsmen ship does go into building the rod.BUT not that much.Id say any reel to cost over 100.00 is a waste of money and rod over 500.00 the only part of the rod to at all improve anyone cast is the length most of casting is how well you are at it.Unlike with spin cast.So bottom line here is like how it sells great. ... show more

I bought this reel to see what you can get for the price. My opinion- reels at this line weight really only need to hold line, have decent drag to prevent backlash, and not fall apart (I don’t really fight fish on-the-reel with a 5wt). This reel does all those things and is excellent for money. Nicely machined and beautiful in appearance. The only negative I have is that it doesn’t have a big name brand on it- but it didn’t cost $200 either. And I can drop it on the rocks without crying. Yes, I do own some name brand reels, but will be hesitant to spend that kind of cash on another when i can get this one. Now- you may buy one and it could be terrible, or you may have more discerning tastes than mine, but this one works for me. I’ll buy it again. ... show more

Read the other reviews. I already purchased another Fly reel. I bought this one a I have no regrets ! This reel is not the cheapest and by far not anywhere near the most expensive. As a beginner it is perfect ! It is smooth as butter pealing line off as well retrieving it. The drag is like silk. As a spin/bait casting, conventional fisherman for over 50 years I thought I would finally give fly fishing a try. This reel couldn't perform any better. It holds plenty of line, perfect balanced to my pole and is machined beautifuly. I am not sure what they could do to make it better ? Well worth the price !! ... show more

Like virtually everyone else says, these reels are of unbeatable quality at this price point. I heard that Piscifun may be getting out of the fly fishing side of things, so the reels/rods are on closeouts. I got the 5/6 weight reel and it is very light but also seems strong and with tight tolerances. Some folks had issues with the drag, but I really like it - the knob is big and the drag is very smooth and easy to adjust, with audible clicks at each of the interval levels. To get the spool off, you loosen the entire drag knob and then pull the whole thing off - a bit different than other reels that have a little spring-loaded catch you move to pop the spool off. My reel came as a left-hand retrieve, which is what I prefer - but it seems easy to change to right-hand, too. I think I'm going to pick up another reel to save for the future. I'll upload two photos of the reel on my 5-wt rod so you can get an idea of size. ... show more

So far just opened it and it looks very nice. I can’t wait too add line and try it out. I’m happy so far I ordered another other one for my second rod when I ordered this one. The second comes with line but I’m rating it 5 starts on durability/structure and for what I paid for it.

Got a 3WT rod and needed a reel. I am not a cork sniffer and wasn't about to fall for the hype and spend hundreds of dollars on what is basically a spool to hold line for tiny trout in a mountain stream. Grew up using Dad's Phluegers and they are still the best eva! This one holds the line, dropped it a few times an didn't explode and if you can believe a fishermen, even caught a few fish on it. Only objection is the drag. It is free wheeling and the knob is such that if you happen to touch it when casting, well... it changes the setting. Best to set it on full on or full off. Not really an issue for a 3Wt but if you are fishing for slabs it might be a problem. ... show more
