Description

Whether wading in cold streams seeking the perfect ripple, floating on warm waters and shooting line under low hanging trees, or cruising across saltwater on the hunt for a fight with a trophy bonefish, fly fishing connects us to nature in a truly visceral, meditative way. We're a small group of unpretentious fly fishing enthusiasts that want to help more people access those epic moments in nature and the legendary stories that come with them. Our mission is simple… to imagine, create, and distribute unique, well-built fly fishing rods that real people can afford. We craft our rods in hopes they inspire a revival… a return to the pure and simple spirit of adventure… moments that stir the soul. Our distinctive style is certainly derived from the classics; from our custom reel seats turned from strikingly grained burl woods, to our hand turned cork grips, and high performance rod blanks, every one of our rods whispers the beginning of a unique story - one that's bound to be epic. Imagine a rod that looks like nothing you've never seen on the rack at your local fly shop. Now imagine that rod having some of the best action and sensitivity you've ever felt, even in upscale rod brands. Now imagine anodized copper hardware from reel seat to tip, a vintage color scheme, and exquisite Burl wood double locking reel seats. Finally, imagine being able to actually afford this rod without having to pull out a second mortgage on your home. The Vesper is a high performance rod that truly preforms in its category. How? We drilled down, removed the fluff, and put the majority of build costs into the essence of what makes a great rod, great; the blank. These are high modulus, nano matrix materials which net lighter, stronger and faster recovering tools. Lightweight, accurate, superb balance, dampening and swing weight, this is The Vesper. Field Tested & Guide Approved.

    • Fantastic beginner nymphing rod
Size: 3WT- 10'6" Style: Euro Nymphing
Bought this thing as my first dedicated nymphing rod. I also purchased a 2wt 11ft Syndicate at the same time. I actually prefer this to the Syndicate and if I had to pick one rod to have between the two I'd take this in a heartbeat and in fact I actually prefer casting it. I also like that it's beefy enough that I can throw a dry fly on it when I have to. I wondered if it would feel too stiff/big for fish in the 12 inch range but they feel good on it, and of course it'll easily handle stuff 20+. Tip is very sensitive and because of the thicker butt section the action while fighting the fish is great. Love the replacement rod tip, especially because if you're not used to a longer rod I could definitely see it going in the dirt the first few outings. Thing looks fantastic too. I'm sure there are better rods out there but this thing does everything I need it to do and then some, and for the price it is an absolute bargain. One of the best parts about fishing this thing is that because it's affordable I'm not worried about dropping a paycheck every time I fish with it. If you are looking for a good, affordable all-around nymphing rod stop reading reviews and buy it. ... show more

    • Really Nice Rod with an Extra Tip!
Size: 3WT- 10'6" Style: Euro Nymphing
Review Image by Rowdy
I've been looking to get into euro nymphing ever since I had the privilege to watch some European experts at a youth tournament. 90% of a trouts diet is underwater, mostly near the bottom, so I knew it would mean more fish. Haven't been on the river with it yet, but I am really impressed with this rod! I got the 3 weight and it feels like a long feather in my hand. Having had shoulder surgery 2 years ago, I was a little worried about fatigue. The rod has a nice, half wells handle that fits my small hand, a beautiful reel seat and a small fighting butt. It came with a nice, canvas covered case. Can't wait to get on the stream! ... show more

    • Great rods, Even Better Company
Size: 3WT- 10'6" Style: Euro Nymphing
I ordered and received the Epiphany Euro Nymph Rod before I ever tried Euro Nymphing. I decided to contact the company to discuss my style of casting and my preferences in rod action. Tate Cunningham one of the founders of the company responded right away. After discussing with Tate he let me know that their Vesper 3 wt 10'6" might be more appropriate for my style, which is a medium fast rod. It was more expensive than the Epiphany but about 60% the cost of rods from Sage and Loomis that have equivalent blanks. Tate arranged the exchange process and made it seamless for me. The Vesper is amazing in look, and performance. It is a stunning rod and very accurate. Casting weighted flies with essentially just tippet would seem to be tough, but my first day out with the Vesper I made hundreds of short Euro Nymph casts and only perhaps 5 didn't land where I wanted them to. Very Accurate. I had no intentions of using this rod as a overhead casting rod, but last week I couldn't help myself. Rising fish must be addressesd!! I only had a 45" 4wt Dt line on my reek I was able to shoot the entire line and backing accurately enough to hook up with two very nice browns. I highly recommend the Vesper, I am extremely impressed with the company as Moonshine Rods Co. treats their customers (at least this customer) as though they want to have a lifetime relationship with their customers. ... show more

    • Excellent for euro nymph, need 5-6wt line for dries.
Size: 3WT- 10'6" Style: Euro Nymphing
Does everything a euro nymph rod is supposed to do. Great tippet protection. Turns the head of larger fish with ease. Easy handles “casting” long euro style leaders. However, know that if you need to swap lines and leaders for a dry fly hatch, you’ll need a 5 or 6 weight line to fully load and cast this rod. Again, excellent for strictly euro style nymph fishing but you’ll need a 5-6wt line to load and cast this rod if you’re fishing dry flies or a dry dropper rig. ... show more

    • Great rod
Size: 3WT- 10'6" Style: Euro Nymphing
This has become my go to rod for most of my fishing. I do a lot of euro nymphing on streams but also go for pan fish and trout on still water and I really like this rod for all of it. It is a 3 wt and at first it seemed a little stiff compared to a 4 wt of another brand. But as soon as I got adjusted to it - I loved it and still do. The spare tip that came with it is nice for a backup but it has had lots of hard use and some abuse and has help up great with not problems. I had broken two tips on the other brand which I still use if I am helping someone else but I have them use my Moonshine and I get by. It has handled some big trout (22" +) on still water with no problems and I love the flex to help me keep them hooked with no barb. ... show more
