  • Worth the money
Color: White Size: 12000 BTU - 208/230 V
I have had this unit just shy of 5 years. It started out very quite and as the years went on it got a little louder. I have it mounted to the side of the house on brick and the outside unit would make things vibrate inside. Today the fan motor gave out and quit working. I think the vibrations were coming from the fan starting to fail. I have rigged up a fan to keep this unit cooling my house while I wait on the other Pioneer split unit to arrive. Yes that's right, I've ordered another one. I believe for $800 dollars it's worth it for 5 years. I wish it would last longer but I really like this brand. My home is at the coast and even though we are not ocean front we still get salt in the air. I wish the coil fins had a coating on them to protect them because these started corroding within a couple of years. Like I said, I believe it's worth the money. I might feel different if I had to hire someone to install it for me but I installed it myself. My plan with the new one is to spray it with a protective coating before I install the new unit. My old one is still cooling great with my fan rigged up to it. ... show more

  • Powerful and quiet
Color: White Size: 9000 BTU - 110/120 V
This review is solely my personal opinions based on the unit that I purchased. And I tried to cover things that I would want to have known before I bought it. I ordered the 9000 BTU 110 v model to supplement my central air conditioning system in my bedroom. The room is about 13 by 16 ft with high ceilings. I ordered it on Amazon and it took about a week to arrive. 3 months later, It still shows that the order is running late. The shipping company was cool. The driver called me when he was in the neighborhood. I wasn't home but he left it behind the gate for me. The boxes were strapped down to a pallet. It ships in three boxes the condensing unit, the inside unit and the copper line set. I'd never owned a split ductless before although I'd used them in hotels in Asia. I chose this brand solely based on Amazon reviews. And other people seem to have reasonably good experiences. Installation: you need to drill a 2.5" hole in the wall behind where the inside unit mounts. In my case I had to drill through about 5 inches of wood. They give you a plastic tube to put through the wall. The hole in the wall needs to slope downward so is any condensate would drain outside. Take time to plan how you will route the line set. Both lines get cold when the unit is running and any exposed copper pipe will drip condensate. They give you a bag of something that looks like Play-Doh to seal where the lines go into the building. Two months later it hasn't set up and it's still mushy. also have some nail polish remover or something to get the stuff off your skin when you're done. You will need a flaring tool to shorten the line set. You'll need a vacuum pump and a set of air conditioning gauges. Also you'll need a 5/16 to 1/4-in adapter for the service port. To wrap the line set, they include this plastic ace bandage looking thing that's worthless. I recommend buying "line set tape" on Amazon. It's basically an extra wide roll of thick electrical tape. It comes in different colors to match your house. I bought a line set cover also pioneer brand but wasn't able to use it if I wanted to maintain the slope of the drain line. Be mindful of where the drain line ends as this thing produces a lot of condensate. Also, you need a dedicated circuit for this unit. All power goes into the outside unit and there's a cable running from the outside to the inside to run the inside fan. I had it hooked up with an extension cord for a couple days until my electrician came out. Inside: The inside unit feels cheap and plasticy and literally snaps onto a bracket that you mount on the wall. It has a thin screen filter similar to a window air conditioner. I wish there were other filter options like for my central air conditioner. The outdoor condensing unit seems well made. I installed it on two pressure treated 4x4s that I set on gravel. I was afraid to mount it on the wall for noise and vibration but there is none. I installed it next to my reliable 34-year-old Trane central air conditioner. Build quality wise, I don't see this thing lasting 10-15 years. Operation: This thing is quiet and powerful! Cooling performance seems a lot better than 9,000 BTUs. When it's running, I can hear my neighbor's air conditioner two houses away over this thing. You literally have to double check that it's actually on, it's that quiet. The inside unit, initially had a fluttering noise when the fan was on but that went away after about a day of use. The fan on the inside unit runs continuously and the outside unit cycles off once it reaches temperature. BTW, This thing is 100% Chinese made. I wish there was an alternative but it seems like most of these ductless units come from China. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I've also contemplated replacing my central air conditioning with a few more of these. Installing one of these, correctly, it's a pretty advanced DIY project. I hope this review helps somebody who's on the fence about buying one of these. Update: It's been about 2 years and I use this thing almost everyday year-round. It works better as an air conditioner than as a heater. However, except for the coldest (below 40F) days you'll be comfortable. It's still just as quiet. Still has the slight fluttering sound in the inside fan but not bothersome. The remote control is a little weird: you have to slide down this cover to get to other buttons that would seem logical to be on the main part of the remote. It also seems very energy efficient. It calls for a 20 amp 120 volt circuit but in reality when I checked it with an amp clamp, it draws it max 800watts on the hottest day. I will probably order another one of these to my living room next month. Eventually I plan on using these to replace my central air and heat. I really wish these were made somewhere other than China. Overall I'm very happy. I'm sure you will be too if you take the time to plan the installation. it's really not a DIY job imo ... show more

  • Minisplit works great
Color: White Size: 12000 BTU - 208/230 V
Would have been an easy installation but they sent the wrong sized pipe. Tried unsuccessfully to contact the seller about the problem and finally gave up. Amazon orders can only contact the seller through Amazon. For some reason my email never got delivered. Fortunately, my installer was able to supply the correct size, but I ended up an extra $150 out of pocket because of the incorrect pipe size. Might have had a different outcome if I could have gotten a timely reply or replacement from the seller. Installer was extremely busy at the beginning of summer and I would have had to wait several weeks to get back on his schedule. The minisplit works fine, but lack of quality control on the part of the seller cost me extra money. Probably will find a different supplier if I purchase another minisplit. ... show more
