  • Great to have for all purpose background
I bought this for my niece for her school project. Now we use it for celebrations for anyone who wants to take photos with it. If you need it for any time or party of event. It will be useful.

  • Pretty good for someone like me
I want to start off by saying I have no photography skills and am a complete beginner. I got this because we wanted to do more portraits, photos, and overall camera work for our business and for our personal desires. This kit comes with a LOT. Lights, greenscreen backdrop, etc. The lights work really well and are VERY bright. It was easy to assemble and to understand how to use so you can get right to putting things in place without much reading. My main problem is the backdrop stand is not very sturdy...it was actually quite a hassle to get it set up, extended out, AND sturdy for use. The lights were more durable to me but they are very light. Additionally, the cords to plug them in are so short! I was struggling to find a way to set everything in a way so I could have the lights I wanted near the backdrop (but not too close). Overall, I think it's great if you're starting out and you're trying to figure things out without breaking the bank. I just wish it was all more sturdy and durable. ... show more

  • Great for a beginner with indoor applications
This is a comprehensive kit that includes pretty much anything you would need to make a photo shoot more professional and legitimate. Putting everything together for use is simple and straightforward with multiple stands and mounts creating a very versatile workspace. That being said, once you extend the stands and have the covers open, the lights can become wind sails and literally knock over multiple times if used outdoors. Everything feels very sturdy until you start extending and spreading out everything. We used this at a small party as a mock Photo Booth, and it did work out well, with the exception of the lights falling over several times when even a slight breeze came by. To be fair, we probably should have setup a little differently, but the results were good overall. As stated by others; this is a great setup for the photog who is just starting out and wants to take the next step to up their game. ... show more

  • The worst thing I got on vine
This is QUANTITY QUANTITY QUANTITY...no quality. I do video for a living and it can get expensive, so hobbyists will get starter kits on Amazon...PLEASE use your budget for the 1 or 2 items you really need and just get the best version of that for the $120 instead of this. The softboxes are just meh. I'm mainly ticked because out of the two rectangular softboxes, ONE HAD A TEAR FRESH OUT OF THE BOX. They are PROPRIETARY, meaning the lightbulb fixture is attached to the softbox. The swivel mount is LOOSE and VERY CHEAP plastic that's hard to stay put and makes a grinding noise when adjusting the angle. The swivel mounts on the softboxes are timebombs. The round softbox seemed the most sturdy, but it was a chore to get it to open properly and was quite stiff. The stands are garbage. There are 5 traditional light stands included. 2 of mine, the top spigots (where you attach the lights) were VERY LOOSE and cannot support a light without it rocking back and forth. The bolt that is attached cannot be tightened, so unless you have a metal cutting saw and some welding skills, those two stands are trash. The three "working" ones I saw had a glue like residue on their spigots which the broken two didn't have. But even with the glue, I can tell it's only a matter of time before those three stands kick the bucket. Also these stands have the typical cheap stand leg mount: the knob to loosen and tighten the leg stand to slide the legs down is ATTACHED to the hip joint of one of the legs and the very soft plastic chassis has an opening that opens up too much when you loosen that knob - another red flag these stands are circling the drain. The boom arm - the "knuckle", the part that you put on top of a light stand to attach a boom arm is ALL PLASTIC and VERY VERY CHEAP PLASTIC. You have to tighten it as hard as you can. Normal tightening, you can lower the boom arm with the force of your hand unless you strong man that knob shut. I know plastic has to come with cheap kits, but if you've ever used a boom arm, you know the lightest of objects will feel 20lbs heavier on a boom arm...you can NEVER use plastic. Just don't include a boom arm if you can't make it metal. What's further frustrating is the sandbag - the great equalizer that is supposed to make bad stands "usable". You hook up the sandbag by placing a metal hole in the sandbag through the hook of the boom arm...except that metal hole RIPPED OUT of the cloth. The cloth is HORRIFICLY cheap on the sandbags, no way they can hold sand. The cloth on the sandbags is almost like paper sprayed with plastic coating. But yeah, the sandbag is completely worthless and you have NO SHOT of using the boom arm with this kit now that the sandbag is trash. Then we get into the back drop stand. The included cloths can be unwrinkled with a dryer or steam...so I'll let that pass. They are a bit too much on the glossy side, especially the black, so you won't get clean black backgrounds as mostly every wrinkle will have a sheen catchlight. Sure you could prepare and stretch the backgrounds as best you can...but the stand is TOO WOBBLY. The tension the top bar puts on the stands, the stands can't even stay upright and will lean inward and getting them to sit level is quite the challenge. Once you figure that out, the cross bar BOWS heavily as the snap connections are VERY LOOSE. This makes it impossible to stretch out the backgrounds and you'll always have wrinkles due to the weak top bar and stands. Also the cloth isn't form fitted to the width of the stands, you'll always have an extra foot gap on the sides of the stands or an extra foot or so of excess cloth...which means more wrinkles as you try to clamp that down and stretch the fabric taught. Now the "tolerable" items: The umbrellas also have that "plastic coated paper" feeling, but none were torn. If you baby them, they could come in handy. There's no attached velcro belt like most umbrellas have, so you'll need to keep the plastic wrap it comes in to keep them safe. The white shoot through umbrellas don't do a great job of diffusing...SHOCKER. The silver and gold are decent however and work as they should...provided you treat these umbrellas like a Fabergé egg. The 5 in 1 reflector is decent. The black negative fill part is too shiny and does jack in terms of acting like negative fill, but the other 4 colors work as they should and the diffusion portion actually is nice and good to have handy and clamp to an actual light stand boom arm...that you buy elsewhere cuz' this kit doesn't include a usable boom arm. The light bulbs work and respond to the remote control very well...but then again...they're basic lightbulbs you can buy at Target or have in your house already. The frosted floods are diffused bare, so the softboxes don't have to do too much work to get a nice diffused light. The spiral CFL lights are only 45 watts and IMO, that's VERY WEAK for photo work, especially if you diffuse it with an umbrella...you're getting half that power. Unless you want to do portraits with ISO 6400 all the time...PASS. The swivel mounts for the CFL bulbs - the bare ones not attached to a softbox, are a bit more sturdy that the ones built into the softbox at least. The boom arm (just the arm, not the swivel portion) has a fairly taught spigot...oddly the best spigot in this entire set...just a shame it doesn't have legs or a proper stand and knuckle combo to use it. So if you want just a lightweight STICK that can mount a small cob light...you got that at least. Then the case...the case is hot garbage. I put all the junk included in this set into the bag...so the bag was NOT EVEN AT FULL CAPACITY....as I take it down to the basement for storage for six months until I'm allowed by Amazon to throw it in the garbage LOL...I hear a tear...the bag ripped, not even being able to handle PARTIAL WEIGHT of the whole set. So for $120 you get 5 disposable umbrellas that can be useful while they last 4 lightbulbs that will have to be used as houselights for your garage or basement A 5 in 1 reflector...or 4 in 1 because the black part is useless. 2 DISPOSABLE CFL bare bulb swivel mount AC adapters 3 DISPOSABLE small light stands...before they break 2 (out of 3) Disposable softboxes that can only take light bulbs and not proper photo/video lights before the mount breaks. Then 25lbs of trash that you can put in the included bag and have that rip, not surviving a walk down a flight of steps. I got this for free for Amazon vine and I feel ripped off...I can't imagine paying $120...ugh. I also can't imagine the return rate on these being below 95% ... show more
