These look so nice! They come with a nice bulb, but I decided to use my pre-existing Philips Hue bulbs. THESE BULBS ARE NOT CAPABLE OF COLOR. I had a Philips Hue color bulb already that I just screwed into one of my lamps so that we could enjoy changing the colors. I used a white one for my other lamp. The installation was overall pretty easy, one of the hardware pieces was a little different than other lamps we've installed so the first one took a little time for my husband and I to figure out. But then we did the other one really quickly. I was impressed by the unboxing experience and it arrived in great condition. I definitely recommend these! ... show more

Husband installed these over two outdoor doorways in an old building, replacing fixtures that no longer worked. These were a royal pain for him to set up because the parts supplied didn't fit (I'm sorry I don't have details). Electrically they are correctly, safely installed. But he had to rig them as far as securing the fixtures to the building. He did. They're secure. It was a pain. But I love these lights! The simple design means it fits with virtually any style home (our style is "old brick school"). We can manage the lighting from afar. And the fixtures are just as reliable as the Philips Hue Smart Bulbs we use and depend on around the house. If you have a more modern building, replacing an old fixture with this light will probably take no more than half an hour. But if not, you may run into some issues. These were easy to install and look so much better than the ugly lights that came with my home. I love hue because I can set all my exterior lights to come on at dusk and turn off at dawn. and I can change the color scheme with the seasons. These are good quality. I will buy more Hue lights.

Phillips hue has been on the market for quite some time. I was looking for a light that I could easily integrate through my Alexa devices & I decided to take a chance. First, this light does NOT come with mounting hardware. I had to go to my nearest hardware store and buy tapcon screws as I was mounting this device on concrete. I recommend taking the light to the hardware store and showing it to someone who has knowledge on what tools you will need. You will also need a drill, drill bit (I used a concrete drill bit), Phillips screw driver, 16 gauge wire connectors, clear waterproof silicone, tapcon screws (I mounted on concrete)& a leveler. Seems like a lot but trust me..it’s not. I try to do what I can in the house without having to hire an expensive electrician. In my location I am able to install lights like these without needing a permit. Once you decide where you would like to place the light you must FIRST go to the breaker box and turn off the power to that specific area. Double check by flipping light switch on and off, no power means you are good to go. Remove the current fixture & disconnect the wiring. Then with Phillips screwdriver, remove the top and bottom screws located on the light. You will then see the led portion of the light. You will see 4 screws there and remove them. You will now have the mounting bracket. Use the bracket as a guide to help you determine where you will drill 4 pilot holes. Use the leveler in order to have your light level and straight. (You don’t want to have a nice light that is crooked) Once you drill 4 pilot holes, drill 4 tapcon screws into the desired area. Pull the wires through the mounting bracket and connect to the LED portion of the light. Remember .. white with white , black with black and make sure you place the ground wire on the “green” screw (you will see it) & use wire connectors to cap off the ends. Then you will use the 4 screws you previously removed form the LED portion and screw those on but not so tight.. at this time.. check to make sure the light turns on.. if so.. you are good to go. If not then check your wiring and make sure you use wire connectors. Now you are almost finished!! Place the glass faceplate cover on the led light and screw the top and bottom screws with Phillips head screwdriver. Remember to use the clear silicon to stop those pesky bugs, debris and moisture from entering the light. I have included pictures to show before and after application of silicon. It makes a mess and doesn’t look clean so I used a small piece or card board and worked my way around the light to remove excess silicone. Check out the nice finish afterwards!!! I have included pictures. Now that you have your light mounted !! Connect with the app and have fun playing with your new light. Great light and works really well the Hue ecosystem. Follow the instructions to a tee (and pay attention to the “top” arrows on each piece of the unit because the orientation matters. If you don’t, it’s self-critiquing when you try to install and it isn’t quite flush with the wall). Don’t worry about the people who say their light is full of insects. I guarantee you they didn’t properly caulk the light in accordance with the instructions. If you don’t caulk the outer housing with your ceiling or wall, there will be an insect party in your housing for sure. However, I will deduct one star for two reasons: 1. because of the lack of hardware included (not a huge deal if you already have surface mount outdoor fixture), and 2. because the screws you come across during installation are so ridiculously small for adult hands. ... show more

I am a huge fan of Philips Hue lights and this one is incredible! I installed it fairly quickly and the instructions were very helpful. I love that the light comes out of the bottom and top and that it can be changed to LOTS of different colors through the app. You will need the Philips Hue bridge in order to change the colors, but I love I can set the colors to come on at anytime during or operate it right from my phone. The only thing I kinda dislike is the colors brightness. We just had a standard porch light with a Philips Hue bulb and it was super bright, but this looks a thousand better! We even noticed our neighbor bought two of them. Overall this is a fantastic light! ... show more
