After thinking about it for a while I finally decided to enter the world of Philips Hue. These are very nice lights. They installed easily in my existing cans and definitely look more modern, as the bottom is a flat panel with more of an even, skylit feel than the bulb-in-can look. Read the instructions regarding how to adjust the tabs before you mess them up. The color range is great, and the brightness exceeds that of my previous LED bulbs.     • Not the best mounting tabs

The color and brightness and ability to set scenes and zones is great. Philips bulbs with the hue is a great set up. However these can lights are harder to install than standard can lights with the spring brackets or sliding brackets like the utilitech retrofit canned lights sold at Lowe's. If utilitech came out with a color changing smart can light keeping their installation options the same they'd have Philips beat. The main issue is that with the tabs out all the way, which is what the instructions say to do for 6 in housing, theu are too stiff to just push right in. So you have to turn the light slowly to allow the tabs to partially push in. This works about 50/50. Half my lights sit flush the other sit just off the ceiling because twisting just one more turn makes them fall out, but I can't push them up anymore with where they currently are ... show more

Aside from the defective Juno brand wafers, these are the only Zigbee canless wafers on the market. What I like: Hue makes the most solid Zigbee hardware out there, and these wafers are no exception. They are super reliable and the color quality is top-notch. What I don't like: 1. Philips did not include a cutout template. $70 and they didn't provide a piece of cardboard that comes standard with any other canless light. 2. The instructions are all diagrams. There is no text explanation for any of it. Again, text documentation is standard practice for these kinds of things. 3. The price, but since Philips is the only option and the hardware is really good, I get it. The first two things I don't like are easy for Philips to address so I hope they do. The last thing I don't like could be helped by coming out with a tunable white model (no color). ... show more

    • Installing more than two causes all of them to not turn on

Having an issue where installing more than two cans causes all of them to not work. I have a total of six cans. Install one Philips can and it works, install the second one and they both work. If I install a third or more cans, none of them work. However, if I install just one of the original LED retrofit cans along with the Philips, they all work. Potential loading issue? UPDATE: I was using a dimmable switch. Although it was fully open, it was the source of the problem. Changed to a straight two-way switch and solved the problem. ... show more

    • Not as hard as most think to instal great light

The media could not be loaded. Packaged well. The 1s did not return. The other 2 were broken. Not my 1st time buying and installing these lights. But 1st time sending any back lol Install: You need to have already installed or are installing 5/6 - inch can lights. Install of the light is straight forward. screw in the part. ( power is off ) Now with the light the flat wings stay open for 6 inch. But I say to you you might have to adjust cause can lights are not exactly all made the same of to exact size. So for me 5 inch and said to put wing in 1/2 way . well i had to open it more so the cut out slot was visible to fit my can light . Not to hard. Custom fit. Push up and in and twist just a little apposing the direction it the metal wings. . Should be snug. if not pull down open a little more. . Mine worked fine and set up easily . But if you have an issue detect with the hue app first. and name it Then with your smart device. make sure your blue tooth is on in your phone. when doing so. I have the ability to either use Alexa or my hue app. Hint Don't shut it off in the hue app if primary using a voice control. You may get a device not responding. Go into the hue app and turn it on you voice will then respond. Also make sure you leave the switch on Smart devices need switch in on position to function correctly.. Yes I have the hue hub. and it is easy to deal with. plug in and go. One more thing in the hue app you can update bulbs and hub. I recommend you do it as soon as your able. especially if your voice control is buggy. You need to leave the light or lights on while updating and it can take some time. But it helped me with a A 19 hue lamp light. All in all I love the lights. I can dim then and brighten as needed. Saving power even. The hue hub and app allow for more ranges of white and soft white. I have the perfect setting for movie night And in my kitchen when cutting veg. or measuring clear light so see the best. Or just 1 light on in the kitchen as a night light or drink run on movie night set low and soft. Love then can you tell I added a video on install. In the Philips bulb review I do I will be putting how to manually add the bulb to hue app. which helps Alexa recognize. similar to add to Alexa app too. ... show more
