Update I love everything about this machine except that it only works for less than one year. Luckily we contacted the manufacturer and they are able to send us a replacement. If you purchase this machine, you may have to purchase the 3-year protection plan. *********** I love this machine. Not only it looks beautiful on the countertop, it’s very easy to use and makes decent coffee. Some other people complain about the plastic taste but I think it’s just fine. We used to have another espresso machine which gave out lot of steam and high pitch sound. This one is quiet, no steam coming out, and very easy to clean. The coffee ground came out smoothly without having to scrap it out. Sometimes I make two coffee in the morning. So I can totally get my money worth in a short time. The whole process is automatic. I love it so much that I just ordered the milk frother which has good reviews too. Philips is a good brand. We have the air fryer for a few years now and it is still working well.

Not worth it l! Do not buy!

Updated review: we brought this in July during the prime day sale and by January this already stop working properly. There is water spilling out from the top of the portofilter and barely any pressure to push the espresso. Just imagine drinking lightly flavored coffee water. This was A giant waste of money! We reached out to Philips to see how they will fix the problem and they have been slow to respond and resolve this issue. It has been over 2 weeks and still no resolution. This espresso machine supposedly has a one year manufacturer warranty so not sure why they are dragging their feet about it. Do not let water your money with this. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Wow this makes the easiest cup of espresso. We brought this during prime day and so glad we did. The setup is so easy and quick and clean up is even faster. I’m sure other machines make great espresso but I hate the many steps and clean up process, this completely changes the game. This machine is small and aesthetically pleasing. Literally a one step process, after grinding, the machine automatically shifts over to brew. Wow wow wow! Depending on the bean, there’s a good layer of crema. I used regular coffee beans since that’s what I had on hand and it still tasted great. Few minor cons: 1. should have been a flat head plug, I hate how much the plug jutes out of the outlet. 2. Cute, small, effective- tbd on durability and quality

Update #2: this has now been in use for almost 8 months, and now the water is leaking over the portafilter just like so many other reviews now say. Will try contacting customer support and update with a resolution. Already tried descaling and cleaning everything well without success. This espresso machine has been great so far! It does everything (besides milk steaming/frothing), and is pretty automatic. I bought it for my mom who likes espresso drinks, but isn't that savvy about making them, and doesn't want a machine with too much room for error/skill involved. This machine is perfect for that, as it grinds and tamps the coffee and produces espresso. I'm giving her a separate milk frother too for milk-based drinks (latte's), and I'll update this after I hear her thoughts. In general, I'm hesitant about machines with the grinder built in since it can be hard (or impossible) to clean, and I worry about it becoming non-functioning due to one part and not the whole espresso set up, but I'll have to see how long this lasts for. It is super cute and small, perfect for keeping on the counter in a small kitchen. — Update #1: my mom is obsessed with this now, and packed away her drip coffee machine. She says she doesn’t need cream/milk or anything with the espresso or longo, and got a bit over caffeinated the first few days with the ease of making a coffee and how tasty it was. I’m now jealous of her machine (I have a very nice espresso machine but it takes a bit more time/effort than this) and would love one of these for my office- it’s so simple, it would be hard for any officemates to mess it up.

Easy to Use, Easy to Clean, A Decent Espresso Machine

It’s interesting to see some say the coffee tastes watery and no options for choosing different grinding size on this espresso machine. This espresso machine makes 3 types of coffee: Espresso, Double Shot and Lungo (about 6.5 Oz for a lungo). I think before you buy any espresso machine you need to know yourself if you are the snub type or used to be a barista or want to be a future professional barista to make all kinds of varieties of coffee from this machine then this machine is way too simple for you. This machine is best for using medium roast espresso beans. Once you get it set up, let it do the work. I always get a nice espresso with creama on top. I have a separate milk frother in a stainless steel jar so I froth the milk at the same time this espresso machine is brewing. I like the simple design of this machine. And I won’t spend a ton of money to get a fancier machine since all I want is a cup of espresso or double shot or lungo quickly in the morning. This machine is easy to clean and maintain and it makes a decent cup of coffee without me having to do some manual work to get it work. I still use my beloved stainless steel Moka pot sometimes. Never doubt the wisdom of generations of Italians since most families in Italy use Moka pot for their espresso. This machine helps me save time some days from watching it cook on the stove like a Moka pot does and I am not interested in spending lots of time choosing different grinding size or manually tamping the grounds everyday or taking time to wash gazillion parts of accessories like from some machines.

Don’t Buy

Very disappointed with this machine. I purchased this Philips Barista espresso machine in July, and after only a few months of light use, it has already started leaking water all over the counter and floor. For a machine at this price point, I expected much better quality and durability. To make matters worse, customer service has been nonexistent. I’ve tried reaching out by phone and email and have received no response or assistance. Amazon can’t help because the return window has expired, leaving me stuck with an expensive machine that no longer works properly. I specifically bought Philips because I believed it was a reliable brand, but this experience has been extremely frustrating. An espresso machine should last years, not a few months. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this product and wish I had chosen a different machine.

This espresso machine is perfect if you want real espresso without a complicated setup. The machine is compact and doesn’t take up much counter space, which is a big plus.
