I’ve ordered a similar product before, but it had a window and was made out of (seemingly) different material. The other one was much easier to assemble. There were missing perforations for the holes on one of the pieces that took quite a bit of measuring to make sure we got right. The tool they provided is also not efficient. In the directions, it shows them using the screwdriver to put on that piece for the hinge (looks like a nipple) and that would not have worked. Definitely need a drill for this assembly. The house, now that it’s our together, seems to be doing what we want it to now. I’m not displeased with the house, just expected an easier assembly. We moved our other house to our coop to keep our chickens’ water warm, so the (2) cats use this one now. We have an automated feeder, heater, and cat igloo in there for them that all seems to fit fine. This house is not under a cover either so it sits in the elements and held up fine against a lot of rain recently. Since there is no window, we did cut a small hole into the bottom so the power plug could go in easily. And maybe if the piece had been prepared with the perforated holes, this would be a different review and might have gotten a five. ... show more

It’s very heavy in the box. Not too many pieces to put together. Didn’t take long at all. It’s not weatherproof enough to leave out in direct rain. Mine is under the porch roof and with the moisture from rain the roof under the shingles has started to “get wavy”. It’s not insulated by any means. Big spaces on the floor slates. It’s for an outside stray cat we have. I bought an insulation kit u just sit inside and bought a dog house heater and it stays super warm. For the money it’s pretty decent. Even with the wrinkle in the roof part and having to buy the insulation kit I’m happy with it. It’s pretty good quality and looks nice ... show more

Overall a reasonably priced dog house. Construction materials and process is fine. The roof assembly is the only part that is concerning. The pins they provided for the hinges failed during the assembly process. I had to improvise and use nails in their place. The bars that hold the roof open also had an issue. When I placed them on the connectors, the ball receptacles started to fray and risk breaking apart with extended use. Overall it is a good house the pets are dry and warm inside. ... show more

This is a really nice house. It met all the needs I was looking for. Slanted roof, large door opening with flaps, has legs so it is up off the ground. I got the large and my 2 fat beagles are very happy piled in it together.

I bought a small house and did some modifications for feral cats. - I made the entrance smaller so larger animals couldnt get in and to keep the warmth in. -Made a small exit door in the back panel for an emergency exit. - bought the padding that is compatible. Had to cut the back side of padding for emergency exit. - Going to add some straw and and electric heating pad for outside animals. Havent put it out yet but hoping my 2 outside ferals like it! Product is a pretty good quality. Wasnt bad to assemble. Had help from a friend to do modifications. Wish someone would sell something like this with the modifications already done. The ones I have seen were too small to accommodate a few ferals. Not sure about weatherproof since it hasnt been outside yet ... show more

This is an update. My original review is below. Just shy of two years old the roof is coming apart. Given the money spent on this plus the time and effort putting it together I'd hoped it would last a long time. The other reviews are pretty accurate. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't quite give 5. First the negative. The wood is thinnish, but not as thin as I feared. There was a spot where the wood had splintered a tiny bit, but I pressed it back into place The paint is very thin and I plan to put a coat of polyeurathane on to extend the life of the doghouse. Since the walls are thinnish with a tiny gap between the boards in one spot and a slatted floor, I wouldn't use this to shelter a dog from the cold. But I'm very happy with this dog house for the price! I got the medium which is perfect for my 23 pound, energetic mini-schnoodle. I assembled it myself with the screw driver and instruction card that were in the box in about an hour and 15 minutes. I did have to apply a little pressure to get some of the screws in. I found the instructions easy to follow. You might want to position the dog house before you put the roof on because it's awkward to move without help once that's done. The house seems quite sturdy to me! There are two feet in the middle of the medium for extra support. I hung out in there with my dog for a while to help give him positive associations with the house and although with the roof down I had to bend uncomfortably (my dog could sit up fine), with it up there was plenty of space for us both. Again, this was the medium size. The roof doesn't have a lip on the back which seems a smart design so water can run off. It's a dark asphalt which I'm sure it great in the winter but will make the house hotter in the sun. My dog likes to jump up there, so I put a bench behind it for him to get up and down with less joint strain. I haven't put the plastic over the door yet since I want to encourage the dog to get to know his house, but it seems to be heavyweight and good for the job of keeping water out. Although this house could not be described as water tight, I do think it will be good short term shelter when my dog gets caught out in a rain. The doo-hickies that hold the roof up are great! No holding it open with my head to change mats and no fear if it banging down. It's great, too, that the house sits off the ground out of any water. Bottom line is that I like the house and my dog seems to like the house. It's not as heavy duty as what my grandfather made our German Shepherd in the 1970s, but it's a heck of a lot better than anything I could have done and I think the quality is better than fair for the money. It's attractive and sturdy and functional and I think it will last IF I put that coat of sealant on it. I considered several similar dog houses and am glad I chose this one. ... show more
