I needed a shoe for hybrid training so I tried both the Rivera (left foot) and the Escalante 3 (right foot). The Rivera's noticeably more narrow around the toe and footbed. The lip on the back comes up higher on the Achilles. For what I needed, I figured the narrower fit would keep my foot more secure for the type of race I was running so I went with the Rivera. Cons: -Shoelaces suck. They are slick and kept coming untied so I replaced them with lock laces. -At 28mm stack, it is the same height as my Torin Luxe 5. I have owned numerous pairs of Altra trail and road and have never had to break them in. The Rivera's sole felt inflexible the first couple of uses, so far has to make my feet and calves sore during breaking in. After several uses, they are a bit better, but still nowhere near as flexible as my Torin. Pros: -Lightweight -Good cushion/response -The higher back lip kept my foot from slipping out during heavy sled pushes without the need for a heel lock.

I had another model /zero drop as well . These are much more comfortable and really absorb impact . My other ones were trail runners as we hike and those are great . These are better for street and hard surfaces . Knees feel better already . I am a fast walker (14 min miles ) and slo runner (not much faster ha) and these are nice . I wear a 7 usually in regular shoes . I ordered an 8 1/2 . For perfect and nice toe box for this concerned with interfering with movement of toes.

I have narrow feet and always have to pull the shoe strings incredibly tight on shoes. However with these shoes I don’t have to! The heel is narrow as well as the body of the shoe. I wear a size 10 in Brooks and bought a size 10 in these. They are a little short but not enough to send back.

I have a strange foot, so I don't blame the shoe, but I would have benefitted by reading a review like this before I purchased my Rivera 3 shoes. They were the most gorgeous color of purple and I wanted them to work so badly. Here's what I discovered. The wide toe bed is indeed comfortable, but don't mistake that to mean it is a wider fit for the ball of the foot, too. I hoped it would be a bit wider in that area, as well as the toe area. The worst problem, however, was that for people like myself with high arches, there simply isn't enough height in the shoe. The tongue of the shoe barely covered the top of my foot, the laces were very spread open and there wasn't enough left to even tie the shoe. I am overweight, like most Americans, but only by about 20 lbs.; I'm not obese. Even though I acknowledge having a very unique foot, I've never had this problem with any other shoe brand, so I have to conclude it's the shoe and not just my foot. I'm sure it's a great shoe, but it just isn't for everybody.

I don't usually go for shoes with a lot of midsole. These aren't as "fluffy" as Hoka shoes... but pretty cushy. I have a difficult fit, very high arches, narrow heel and prefer a wide toe box. These actually work pretty well for me. I can lace them securely and they don't twist around my foot if I land on an uneven surface. My heels don't come up/out. I cannot remove them without untying them - that's a first for me. The toe box is very wide (almost looks a goofy, actually), and my toes can spread out & stabilize my foot. I will say that I didn't put my orthotics inside at first. I had to wait for the insole & midsole to break down a bit. Now that I have, my arches and transverse arches feel a lot better, but it increased heel slipping a little. I still love the shoes.
