I bought this same brand and size about 10 years ago . They were both well worn out and one of them cracked off when temps went to single digits. I was very impressed so I just bought two more / exact same brand and size and they installed easy . I'm not too concerned about weather or energy efficiency so 4 stars on that , but They are very good dog doors and last for many years . ... show more

  • Also easily adapts to a screen door
Size: X-Large
This is advertised as something that works in a thick solid door. However, it also easily adapts to a screen door application. Also this pet door it is so large, your pets can easily walk outside without jumping through a small hole. I have a large sliding glass door to my backyard. My German shepherds need to go in and out. I went to a metal supply store and got a thick gauge separated metal sheet and cut it to the correct dimensions too screw onto my sliding screen door. This works far better than any Any metal mesh screen door protector you can buy at a Home Depot etc. you can also customize it yourself to the proper size. And it is far more sturdy than the flimsy screen protectors that you can buy at a store. This being said, this pet door, easily clamps around a screen door with a pet protector on it, much thinner than a solid wood door. The bolts that’s secure both sides of the pet door are made out of plastic and can easily be shortened after installation so they don’t stick out after installation. Works perfect, and this door is ideal for large dogs, especially ones with hip problems that don’t wanna jump out of the door. This thing is so large they just simply walk outside. ... show more

  • Good door, works well, plastic screws need to be replaced
Size: X-Large
Good door, not hard to install and works well. Only feedback is the nylon screws it comes with are a joke and you can't get them tight. Went to local hardware store and got some replacement bolts and was able to get a much tighter and better fit. The nylon screws won't tighten enough.

  • Easy to install.
Size: Small
We have 7 (yes, 7!) barn cats that use this little door constantly and it has held up very well.

  • This is life changing!!
Size: Medium
Before this we used potty pads regularly due to a busy schedule and not always catching the dogs cues to be let out. We just moved and decided potty pads were not coming with us. We got this and installed it immediately before the dogs even came to the new house and they took to it almost immediately! It took very little training and by the third day there was not a single accident and they haven’t had any issues since. This has literally changed our lives for the better. It has eliminated so much extra work and cleanup with not having to clean potty pads or the little accidents that don’t quite make it on the potty pads all day every day!!! My only complaint at all is the snap on door doesn’t seen very secure. We have come up with a temporary solution to keep it from being able to be pushed off the door from the outside but this is a big concern for safety and being away from home. It just snaps in place so it can be easily pushed from the outside and fall right off. We have tested it and it’s a terrible concept. Hopefully this can be modified for future models as this is a necessary safety feature. ... show more

  • Dog doors, is there a perfect one? NO
Size: X-Large
I've had this door for 5 years. It is not weather tight but does ok (none of them seal). I bought one of those $400 dog doors that lasted 2 years so you do the math. The pictures are of the modification that I did to the closing panel. One of these has been installed at my daughters house also. Those are spring hinges holding the panel closed and are screwed into hdpe 1/4 inch plastic to the back. You will have to shave the back of the door and the back cup/curve off for it to swing. The last picture it the doggy nose tab (plastic coffee can) that was molded with a hair dryer attached with silicone and a couple of screws, using the screws you will have to cut the pointy edges off for your furry friend. This does work really well if you take the time to do it, and has lasted 3 years with 3 Labs and they bust through this door at full speed. My door faces south and is protected by a fence and garage so it's not effected much by the wind. Petsafe support has been really helpful with me personally over the last 10 years. If you have any skills this is not hard to do. My plan is to put a spring hinge cover on both sides. ... show more

  • Not as easy as the competitor to install
Size: Large
I am in a unique position to compare/review 2 brands of large size dog doors. I have recently installed 2 dog doors, one was this brand, Pet Smart, The other brand was BarksBar. Competitively priced. The BarksBar was much easier to install. Once installed both doors worked well. I prefer the BarksBar for 3 reasons. 1. The BarksBar template for cutout was thick plastic, making it easy to trace around. Pet Smart you had to cut out the paper template to size, Then try to trace around the flimsy paper. 2. The 'tunnel' between the inner and outer shells on the Pet Smart was mickey-mouse, hard to cutout and hard to install. The 'tunnel' was 4 pieces of hard plastic you had to cut to the correct width. Better bring some tin-snips for this job, the hard plastic will defeat most scissors. Once 4 pieces are cut you have to tape them into one side of the door and try to align them (blind assembly) into the other 1/2 shell as you install the 2 sides into the door. You had better get some help to work both sides of the door. BarksBar had a telescoping design that was easy to install. 3. The Pet Smart closing panel just snapped on, and was hard to remove. The slide-in BarksBar was more sturdy and easier to remove. One further note. The Pet Smart panel can be installed on very thin panels on your door, but you must still cut the hard plastic tunnel pieces. The BarksBar needs a minimum 1.25 inches for the telescoping panel. So if you have a thin panel to install into, go with Pet Smart. ... show more
