  • This carrier met my criteria, deadline, and exceeded my expectations!
Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
I found a new low cost spay neuter clinic for my latest stray however, ‘patients’ must be in a hard plastic carrier case. Since it looks like my latest boy would be confined in it all day, I wanted something that was well made and solid with sufficient room in case of an ‘accident’ that he could stand/turn around to avoid sitting in his own mess. I also needed the top loading option. This size was the winner at 24.05 x 16.8 x 14.5 inches making it a suitable upgrade replacement for my current soft one (19x11x12) in use for vet appointments. I also wanted if possible, for it to be eco-friendly, delivered within 2 days for our neuter appointment, AND at a reasonable price!!! OK, this carrier was spot on meeting my criteria and deadline. It actually exceeded my expectations! The instruction manual was easy enough to follow and didn’t require any tools. It was mostly wingnut bolt assembly (more secure than snaps) so it took no time at all for me to assemble. However, if you do not have small hands/fingers to screw on the underside, it could be a bit of a challenge to secure. It also explains why I’ve seen some carriers with the black nylon wingnut on top vs underneath. Large hands probably push the screw through from the bottom and secure at the top vs small hands securing underneath. -Here I was thinking it was a different design or model (LOL). Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about load bearing to know if it makes a structural difference with a cat onboard, but it’s probably a question the manufacturer/seller would know the answer to or add a couple zip-ties if you’re nervous. The finished product is a carrier that is well made of rigid plastic, has strong locking steel wire doors (stay away from the plastic ones, especially in high humid areas) on both top and side openings, and has great ventilation and visibility. Especially impressive for my needs was the large top opening that made loading an 11-pound Elvis into the carrier easy & stress free for us both. Ditto, for the vet who loaded him in after surgery wearing the ‘cone of shame’. Anyway, the carrier not only looks good, but feels strong, sturdy and safe with heavy-duty plastic that would not fail when loaded with 10-15 lbs of cat. It also does not look “cheap” like some of the plastic ones I’ve seen. Unlike soft carriers, you also don’t have to worry about damage from your cat clawing or chewing. I’ve not tested the carry handle, but I’m a small woman and lugging this size carrier by handle with an 11 or 15 pound cat onboard ‘ain’t happening. My preferred method of transport in/out of car to vet is to secure the carrier onto my computer/luggage dolly (Tri-Kart 800) for transport to the destination. It’s easier & less stressful for both of us. As for cleaning, the carrier is plastic making it easy to clean, hose down, wipe down and dry out. For comfort, there’s no need to buy a separate cat mat since the standard cat mat you may already have will fit fine. Overall, this carrier is solid, comfortable and perfect for our needs. It’s nothing fancy or the most “fashionable”, but it is functional and of good quality for the price point. 5 stars!!! I will probably order a second one since the carriers are somewhat stackable and fit well on my dolly for vet appointments. 5/1/2023 Update: A second carrier was ordered and I’m thrilled! I did forget to mention a few things above: (#1) An extra bolt/wingnut is included in the package should you lose one (#2) You have the option of making your door open out left or right. There is no wrong way, it’s a matter of preference. (#3) FYI. The carrier is made of plastic (recycled plastic). Keep in mind that plastic can be sensitive to weather changes (heat, moisture, humidification) and/or after heavy usage you may want to check & tighten up the bolts every so often. That’s it, 5-Stars!!! ... show more

  • Still Love it!!!
Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
I bought this crate because I have a large Himalayan cat that weighs about 17 lbs. We had a slightly smaller crate with the plastic door and he is strong enough he pushed the door so hard it flexed and he got out. The handle also broke when we tried to pick him up. We put him in this one and he didn't even get excited, I believe because he had more than enough room. My other cats also like it. The top opening is great or loading because you can drop them right in, instead of having to try and push them in butt first. It is larger than any I have owned before, but it is worth it so the cats can sit up inside instead of having to lay down. It is easy to put together, btw the top wires of the door do not go into the holes, they fit into the 2 points you see at the top corners of the door. I wondered if I too got the wrong size door but it fits perfectly. The instructions could tell you that, they are just line drawings with few details. the side go together with metal bolts and heavy duty plastic nuts. They work well and it seems very sturdy and held my big cat to his satisfaction. It is definitely worth it, especially for my larger cats and especially at the 44% off price. Update: Sadly my Himalayan passed 4 years ago so that give you an idea how long I have owned mine. I just want to say that I still love them, I bought a 2nd one and have them now for a few years and they are still in great shape. I see a couple of people saying their cats noses were scratched, it is a firm plastic, but have never had a kitty injure themselves and it only takes a few seconds to make sure they haven't sustained any damage or have anything that a cat can scratch themselves on, a quick filing can take down any rough spots if you find some, again I have not had that problem. I only use them to take my cats to the vet, but have a few cats so they do get used. I love the 24", it is big enough that even my very large cats can turn around in them. I have had many other people at the vet's office ask about them and where to find one. The top load is the only way to go, much better than trying to force them into the end door where they can stretch out far to make it hard to put them in. They are great crates. Update: 8 years later and both still look like new and they have transported a lot of cats to the vet and back. Best carriers I have ever owned. ... show more

  • Great Carrier for Small Parrots and Other Small Animals
Style: Two-door Size: 19.4"L x 10.0"W x 12.8"H Color: PINK
I purchased this carrier for my Lesser Sulfer Crested Cockatoo. My parrot actually likes the carrier vs the much larger converted dog carrier. It has been around 2 months since the carrier arrived and it is holding up fine. It is a small but stable carrier for my parrots. Very lightweight easy for anyone to carry. I would recommend this carrier for those who have small parrots. I could not see a small dog or cat fitting in this particular carrier but great for folks who need to take their smaller sized parrots in the car. I also loved the affordability of the carrier. I was searching for a long time for a carrier that was easy to carry, easy to open having 2 doors which my vet asked me to find ie a top and front opening. ... show more

  • Solid product that meets need with timid cat
Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
I purchased this for a small cat who was never socialized. She’s afraid of everything and I could no longer get her safely into a soft-sided carrier. I’m using treats to entice her into the carrier in hopes that she will come to see it as a safe place. I wanted both a top and an end access and I like both. I can easily open the top with one hand and, hopefully, drop her in and immediately drop the door down so she can’t escape. From that position I can lock it in place without opening it again. I needed the end door so she can come and go when at home. I will mention that the door doesn’t stay wide open, swinging about half the distance to the closed position. My cat is very small so that’s not a concern but larger cats as timid as mine might object. ... show more

  • Good transportation carrier with simple assembly procedures.
Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
We purchased this carrier because we have one cat that is difficult to get into a front-loading carrier and we're hoping the top-loading one will be easier for getting him in and out (haven't tried it yet). We intend to use it strictly for transportation, and not as a closed housing kennel. The color and style are exactly as pictured in the Amazon photo. The empty, inside dimensions are about 20" long x 12" wide x 13-1/2 " high. It's hard to get an exact measurement because the inside corners and edges of the carrier are curved. The sides are therefore a little wider than the actual flat bottom measurement. Both of our cats are in the 12-13 pound range and should have plenty of room in the carrier for general travel, such as a trip to the veterinarian or groomer. We would also feel comfortable using it for our 10-pound Morkie or our 15-pound Cairn Terrier for transportation purposes. We would not use the carrier as a regular, enclosed housing kennel for any of our animals because it is too small to allow them to move around comfortably, especially with bedding inside like a crate pad or blankets that would take up interior room. It would, however, be suitable for them as an open sleeping crate, with the door removed. If you need a carrier for housing a pet of more than about 8 pounds for longer periods, you might want to get something a little larger. There's enough room to curl up and sleep and to shift position, but it probably would not be comfortable for standing up or to be used as a longer-term kennel. Pros: - The carrier itself is reasonably sturdy, similar to other carriers we have for our pets. - It's not too heavy, about 2-3 pounds. - Because of the grated, top-loading door, there should be good air circulation from all four sides and the top of the carrier. - The written assembly procedure itself is easy to follow and pretty intuitive. - The top door comes pre-inserted so you don't have to assemble it. - The front door was easy to insert and the spring loaded opening mechanism on the top and side doors are easy to use - the spring holds tight, but is not difficult to pinch and hold open like some other carriers we've had. - To attach the two halves, you use supplied metal screws and plastic wingnuts inserted in holes placed around the edges of each half, which is a simple procedure to follow. Cons: Putting together the top and bottom halves of the carrier with the supplied hardware, while not complicated, was slightly difficult for two reasons 1) There was one manufacturing / quality control issue - A few of the assembly holes punched in the carrier were uneven, too small or not punched out completely, so I had to widen them slightly or the screws would not fit through them properly. This was simple to do with a screwdriver. 2) The plastic wing nuts fit snugly on the screws (which is good), but it makes them a bit difficult to twist onto the screws. This shouldn't be a problem if you have good hand strength, but could be challenging if you have arthritis (I have a little arthritis in my hands), carpal tunnel or just weak hand strength. You might have to use a pliers to fully tighten the wing nuts, or get someone with stronger hands to screw them on completely. 3) The top door is not removable at all and the side door is not removable unless you disassemble the crate. For comparison, our favorite overall pet crate is the PETMATE 290272 19 by 12.7 by 11.5-Inch Navigator for Pets, Tan/Brown that has a door with rotating, compass-style latches on both sides of the door so that the door can be completely removed without taking the crate apart. It's also very simple to assemble and disassemble. However, it doesn't have the top-loading feature. We have the Petmate Navigator crate in 3 different sizes, and the largest one we used to actually kennel our dogs for several hours at a time when they were puppies, when we we weren't home and at night, until they became fully house trained. We like this carrier better than some others we've owned and would recommend it for transporting small pets up to about 10-15 pounds, especially if you prefer to have a top-loading feature. ... show more

  • Awesome carrier
Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
About a year ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a six month old kitten and of course, we needed a carrier for her, so we got a smaller Petmate carrier. As she grew, we realized it was getting a little small for her. We took her on a trip to Florida in it and although she could lay down fine, there was absolutely no room for her to stand. When we adopted our second kitten last September, we knew that we had to get something bigger so we could put both of the cats in it if we needed to. At the end of November, we decided we were going to Minnesota for Christmas and were bringing the cats with us, so I got on Amazon and started looking at carriers. We were debating between this and the Aspen Pet Taxi Fashion Kennel, also by Petmate, because it was a bigger version of our old one. Both of the carriers we looked at were of the larger size, NOT small. The size of this carrier was the 24". We liked the Aspen Pet Taxi because it had two compartments on the top for holding treats, which was great, but we ultimately decided on this carrier because of the two door option. I must say, this was absolutely the right choice. The top door allows more light in and makes the carrier feel more open instead of a cramped little compartment. Also, the two door option allows us two different ways to put the cats in, which we have found using the top door makes life much easier (not as much struggling!). The biggest plus is that not only can a cat sit up in this carrier, both of our cats fit comfortably in it with plenty of room to move around. The cats stayed in the carrier for the majority of the trip to Minnesota, but I think that had to do with them feeling more comfortable in the carrier than out in the open car since we would leave the carrier open at home and let them explore as they wanted. I bought this carrier for only $28, which was an absolute steal in my opinion, and am waiting for the price to come down closer to $30 to buy another one since it would be nice for each cat to have her own. The only downside is that because it is so large and the cat has room to move around, it is very unsteady to carry it since the cat moves her weight back and forth from the front to the back. However, this is a very small issue that does not affect my rating of this carrier. As far as the price goes on Amazon compared to other stores (PetSmart, PetCo, Walmart, etc.) it is about the same everywhere I looked, maybe a little cheaper on Amazon. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this carrier, not only for cats but for smaller dogs as well. Even at $36, it is still a good deal. UPDATE: Since I've had some comments about having two cats in one carrier, I thought I'd clarify a little in my review. The one cat was a year and a half and the other a six month old kitten who wasn't full grown yet. We only had the carrier doors closed when we were getting in and out of the car and when we were in high traffic areas. Other than that, the cats had free roam of the car and access to a litter box but chose to sleep in the carrier together most of the time. Once our kitten had reached adult size, we bought another one of these carriers and currently use both when traveling or taking the cats to the vet. We could probably manage to use one carrier for both cats when making short trips, the vet's office for example, but the carrier can get quite heavy and hard to carry with two cats inside. ... show more

Style: Two-door Size: 24.1"L x 16.8"W x 14.5"H Color: BLUE
I owned this carrier about 3-4yrs ago and I absolutely loved it, hands down my favorite carrier. I decided to buy it again (I had moved and this carrier didn’t work for our flight while moving, so I sold my old one). This carrier is amazing, my cat is half Maine coon so he’s a big guy. This carrier has more than enough space for him, plus the vet/vet techs LOVE that it has a top opening because it’s easier to get him in and out without much of a fight/stress. It’s a little heavy but that is because it’s well made. I usually just put it in a cart while taking my cat inside the vet (we go to the vet inside of petsmart) and it’s much easier to tote him around. I’m not worried about it breaking or him getting out, it is hard sided so I did put a little pet bed inside to make it more comfortable. All in all, I’d buy this carrier over and over again ... show more
