I purchased this for a cross-country trip with my cat. I have a Petmate cage with a standard door, so no issues with the feeder fitting. The parts on the back move lateral so they can accommodate different cage bar spacing. However, if the cage bars are thick, the connectors will most likely break or just not fit. A complaint from reviews was that water got everywhere when trying to pour through the exterior portion - they are right. The part that allows the water to flow into the basin is too short once it's attached to the cage. I did a little modification and it worked perfect. I just wrapped scotch tape around each of the portions that deliver the water. It was just enough to get it over the lip of the bowl and into the basin. The adjustment was temporary but worked! I only needed this for a short period of time, but not sure how well it would hold up if used on a daily basis. BUT - it was great for 4 days of travelling 3800 miles and I"m keeping it for the next adventure! ... show more

I purchased this with the idea that it would be super easy to take care of, but it is not. If you want to clean the water side often, do not buy. I always want to wash out the water side, I know they tend to get dirty really quickly. If you want something you can stick in a cage and fill up easily, this will do it. We bought this to go with the grat theme in our new 8 week old Yorkie's cage/kennel. I thought it looked pretty simple, but from the start there were issues. (I'll show them in my pictures). ●1st. Luckily, we needed it to sit low on the cage since our puppy is pretty short, because when this is screwed on it slides up and down freely until it hits the bottom, or if up higher, a crossbar. Our cage only has one crossbar. If your dog needs it in a particular spot, and you don't have a lot of crossbars, you're going to have to just choose which crossbar is best, and if none are, it's not going to work. ●2nd. When trying to put the spout on to finish installation, it would NOT fit! We actually had to use a knife to carve out off some of the inner edge of the center spouts to get it to fit on the bar. This wouldn't have been too big of a deal for us, since we were able to do that, but for those who can't...not good. ●3rd. After carving out enough space for the spout to fit, we tightened it as far as it would go, and the 2 little spout holes did not fully clear the bowl's lip, which meant that when using the outside spout to pour water, it ran over the lip, and dripped water everywhere. There was nothing we could do to fix this, so no outside spout use for us, and all of our efforts were for not. ●4th. This thing is a pain in general, and I can't believe I didn't realize this before ordering. Our puppy isn't tall enough to drink every bit of water, and with his food being so close in this thing, it's inevitable that some will get in his water, along with his puppy hair on his face. This led to dirty, gross looking water daily, and means unscrewing this off daily to empty the water and the food inorder to clean this, so he'd have clean water. What a chore. Maybe for an animal that can get every drop of water in this pretty narrow, and not shallow bowl, this could be an every couple of days thing instead. But, honestly, it got dirty fast for us, so you'd also have to have a pretty clean mouthed animal who doesn't make any messes when eating for this to not still end up with dirty water often. Brown water in our case. I am torn between 2 and 3 stars because the bowl itself doesn't leak, it holds a decent amount, looks nice aesthetically, and it is affordable if you don't have any other options, and don't mind the above mentioned flaws, and the inevitable daily unscrewing to clean. I don't know how long it'd hold up if screwing and unscrewing daily tho, since it's plastic. For me personally, it's a 1 star review for my needs, but I'm trying to be fare. I would not recommend this for puppies, and probably not for most dogs, unless you're just filling both sides with water. I'm not familiar with the eating habits of other animals, so I can't speak on that. I hope my detailed pictures help give you an idea of what to expect. ... show more

    • Bigger than expected

Fastens securely to the kennel door and holds plenty of food and water. The lip that runs around the inside edge helps to control spillage, but it does get in the way of the water funnel. It also makes the openings kind of narrow, and since the bowls are deep it can make it hard for the pet to get to food in the bottom. The biggest issue though is that it’s very large. When fastened to a regular size cat kennel it’s difficult to put the cat in because the bowl blocks most of the entrance. And then when you close the door the cat loses a lot of interior space. All that said, it was exactly what we needed to meet the requirements for our domestic flight. We did have to buy a larger kennel to accommodate the cat and the bowl, but to be honest he was a little big for his other kennel anyway. ... show more

    • Great upgrade for air travel

This fits well on the front door of a Petmate intermediate plastic kennel suitable for airline travel. I had a black plastic dish that came with the kennel, which attached by hooking over the horizontal bars in the front door. However, one of the plastic hooks broke after the first use. Luckily I had purchased a backup for that trip. This dish is a MUCH BETTER upgrade. Please noted that the knobs for attaching it to the kennel screw off, revealing a post with a vertical gap in the middle. It took me a minute to realize this was designed for securing around/surrounding a vertical bar on the door, keeping it securet! Ingenious! (I wonder if folks that found the posts too large did not realize that they should attach them directly to the bars on the door, rather than between them?) In addition to being able to select the placement on the door (left vs center vs right, higher vs lower) - the posts are situated along a slot on the dish, so they can slide left/right to create the perfect spacing BETWEEN the bars on the kennel door. I used this to my advantage, sliding the dish far left, keeping it more in the corner to not obstruct my dog's face. The posts are a thick plastic, and with the knobs tightened, the two halves of the post are held secure. No breakage during 4 flights in our trip, and very pleased with the secure placement & durability of this product. ... show more

    • Great concept...spout doesn't work

I liked it for the option that I could fill the water without opening the door, but the space between the two holes will not fit on the bars of the kennel if it is connected to the "bolt"

My puppy uses The Coldest Bowl , which I love, for a wading pool. I had to take it out of her crate. This one that attaches, however, she actually can drink from and now swim in. I like it so much I got another one !
