Description

The Pentel GraphGear 1000 mechanical pencil is a superior drafting pencil for architects, draftsmen, artists and enthusiasts. The 4mm tip design makes it ideal for use with rulers and templates. A unique, dual- action retractor advances and retracts the pencil tip to protect lead from breaking. The built-in lead hardness indicator allows you to easily identify your lead type. It comes pre-loaded with Super Hi-Polymer HB lead, which never needs sharpening and produces a clear dark line. The finely chiseled metallic grip inlaid with soft, latex-free pads makes extended writing and drawing comfortable. It is backed by Pentel’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.Refillable with Pentel Super Hi-Polymer Lead and Z2-1N refill eraser. From the Manufacturer Click the automatic drafting pencil top to reveal an extra-long 4mm fixed sleeve. Click the pocket clip to release the heavy spring mechanism and retract the tip. My favorite feature of this mechanical pencil must be that it is retractable so that, if the fine .3mm point is damaged, it will be due to human error or age-related clumsiness (no fault of the pencil). I found that I had to set a "hardness" selection or the advance of lead did not work. I don't just like this pencil... I find that I want to keep it on my person a lot. It's also great for Bible writing... you can put your thoughts whenever God speaks through the supernatural Word. I can also put "thoughts" into tiny, between the lines, spaces in word-space or in margins. The lead does break easier because of the .3mm... one just has to get used to that. A solution might be to get some 20H lead... but that would be "stupid". HB is fine but when I run out, I have a bunch of 2B lead to play with. Can't wait. ... show more

Very pleased with this purchase - fits in hand nicely - operates smoothly and looks sturdy - I like the dual use pocket clip // retract function lever - ensures you don't put in your pocket with the pointy bit sticking out. I hope this lasts a long time - use it for my woodworking project as it is more precise than the old carpenter pencil - but not as precise as a blade scribe... I don't think you can go wrong with this - I am thinking of getting a .7 mm version and some leads (which unfortunately don't come with it). ... show more

    • The Best EDC Mechanical Pencil

I have tried out many a pencil for EDC carry, and this one blows the rest out of the water, for several reasons. The amount that the tip retracts is the most important part. Other pencils with tip retraction only remove the tiniest bit, and leave a good amount of still very fragile, thin metal at the end. This pencil retracts everything back, and what remains is far thicker than any other EDC pencil. The frame is strong as well, I carried one in my pocket every day for 2 years before it snapped in half. The little plastic ring above the finger grip portion is what broke, and is the weakest point on the pencil, but it held strong for a long time. Having this in .9 is fantastic, I find the thicker graphite best for EDC purposes, however to each their own. I have wasted too much money on other pencils, don't be like me, just pick up a few of these and you are set for life. ... show more

I have always hated mechanic pencils. I would periodically try to use them, as being able to mark through small openings for woodwork and such seemed desirable--but the tips would immediately break for me. This pencil works for me! The metal reinforcement around the tip prevents the lead from snapping. It advances well, and the clip also retracts the lead entirely, so the lead won't snap in a pencil cup. I am very happy to have found this product and the fine line it draws has indeed already proved helpful on projects. ... show more

This pencil has been my daily driver ever since I’ve bought it, so I feel I’m qualified to give a thorough review. It’s a fantastic pencil. While I haven’t had the luxury of owning a Rotring or a super-high end pencil, I did use regular plastic mechanical pencils for years; the kind of cheap pencil that come in packs of 50. This pencil blows them out of the water, in every aspect except one (which I will get to). PROS: - well balanced, weight feels good when writing - the thing is a marvel of craftsmanship. Seriously, I’m still amazed at how much stuff they crammed into it - the extending barrel is convenient, doesn’t have much play - you can press down with a LOT of force before the lead recedes into the barrel - the grip is great CONS - The eraser. As someone who has to erase mistakes constantly, the size of the eraser is laughable and didn’t last me two weeks. Luckily it comes with replacements, however they also don’t last long.. -the end cap. I tried like hell not to lose it, but it’s just too easy to lose if you’re using the eraser ... show more

I have had quite some time to use this pencil and I could never get the lead to advance out of the base. Sometimes ending up scratching my paper. I am very dissatisfied with this purchase.
