Saw Penn had released the new wrath at iCast as a more affordable option for those on a budget but still want the Penn quality. I immediately ordered it as a go to option for my kayak. This reel is solid and smooth not mention it looks tough. If you are a fisherman on a budget and or you want to have a quality reel that should you capsize or say let your kid use it and it gets knocked around it won’t cost a small fortune to replace than just buy it.

Penn reel, $30, why not give it a shot. Was looking for a surf reel that was cheap, and when I opened this, man feels super we built. Penn builds tanks, and that’s what this one is. Just threw some 20# braid on it, and will edit once I land some fish on it! But overall, feels and looks great! Edit: Dedicated to the surf and this thing performs. Drag is pretty smooth for the money. Bulky for a 2500 size but perfect for my use. HIGHLY recommend it Update: Have brought in some batrays, halibut, perch. Killer reel for the money. Will definitely be buying some backups

Got the 2500. Works great still after about 2 months. And 20 steelhead later. It has a 10 lb drag system. The drag washers are medal and felt. Small drag system. I switched to carbontex drag washers they work great. So over all this reel has been the best reel I have gotten the chance to own so far. Thank you penn

I bought the 4000 and have had it one day and got this upper slot red on it, it performed flawlessly! Bought it because I was getting man handled by fish so slapped some 20 pound braid and your set. It is as good as pursuits very smooth not heavy and you dont feel bad beating on it! Great value and must buy for the angler on a budget!

I do like the sturdiness, but the only flaw,(which will prove fatal) is the reel handle. It is not made like Penn's better quality saltwater reels. The reason is because the reel handle has the female part for the screw bolt on the other side to connect to which makes this reel great for those that want to switch hands if preferred. I however noticed that it is a bit loose and that comes with the territory when you want to save a little money. (Loose meaning it has play, but works fine). Overall performed well under surf fishing conditions using a 4 oz spider weight and heavy surf coupled with 20lb mono.

Hooked onto a 6 to 8 foot bull shark and the reel handled extremely well. Holds quite alot of line but I only use braided line. Sadly fishing from a bridge with tons of boat in the way to land the shark so had to cut the line. I got the biggest size.

This is a really nice reel at an amazing price. I can't tell the difference between it and the more expensive Penns, but unlike the upstart clone reels, it arrives properly lubricated and does not corrode instantly in saltwater.

I used a Penn 720 reel as a kid. Still have it, consider it “retired” it’s over 30 years old... I recently purchased Pflueger President 25 spinning real, super smooth, very light, 10 ball bearings, <$60, it’s my everyday reel but decided I needed a backup/guest reel and ordered this Penn. I knew it to be a class-step down from the Pflueger, but figured it would be a serviceable back-up... I was wrong! The Pflueger has me much too spoiled. I’m returning the Penn and investing another $30 to get second Pflueger. It’s so much smoother, casts further and has a lever to turn off/on the anti-reverse which allows the spool to free spin with the bail in place which is important to me. I’m sure the Penn will last a long time based on my own experience, and though it’s a budget/value reel, it’s simply not very enjoyable to fish with, to me.
