I ordered this combo Penn Battle IV 6,000 plus Battle IV rod. I was scared to death with all the negative reviews on how amazon shipps, and all the damaged rods, but I ordered figuring I have all winter to get it replaced if broken or damaged. It was delivered In a big clear plastic bag.😮😲 the rod tip sticking out of top a bag.. omg I thought it has to be damaged.,To my surprise there was not one thing wrong with it. I was literally shocked, not a scratch, ding, or anything. The reel was wrapped in bubble rap it also was cleannnnn. It makes me wonder if they started shipping like that so the delivery crew could see what it was and take better care to not screw it up.. A big shout out to Amazon for extra care!! Packaging was unacceptable, the Penn Battle IV rod and reel combo was literally thrown in a box and sent on its way. The fishing rod had bent eyes, and the inside of the eyes were sharp and would easily break the line in time. These Penn battle IV Combos must be seconds or defects. I have purchased both a 3000 and a 4000 combo. The 3000 is a 7 foot one piece med rod and the 4000 is a 7 foot 2 piece med heavy. Both combo feel well balanced and have good sensitivity. The reels are a bit heavy but in the combo they were easily cast all day without killing my arms, like some of my older Mitchell's (300s and 450s) from the 60s and 70s. The retrieve was smooth but somewhat stiff feeling. Both are brand new without any real break in time so the more I use the the better I expect them to feel. ... show more

I have only used it once, but I love Penn rod and reels. Almost every thing I have is made by Penn. It seems sturdy and I believe it will last me a long time. Got it for surf fishing and it’s lighter weight than the other brand I have. I would recommend.

Great value and quick shipping on a quality product. The packaging needs improvement. The Rod & Reel Combo arrived wrapped in bubble wrap, and most of the rod guides were bent. Fortunately, I was able to bend them back to the proper position without breaking them. Shipping the rod in a durable rod tube and shipping the reel in the original Penn box would be a huge improvement. ... show more
