i think this is probably the worst experience i've ever encountered with an item sent by amazon before. PLEASE take this as a warning and buy in-person or a trusted online seller instead of dealing with this disappointment. firstly, the rod and reel was shipped in a BAG. not in a package box or enveloped securely in protective wrap, just straight up shoved in a plastic bag. when my dad took it out he noticed that the bail was severely bent out of shape. he was able to somewhat fix it but he shouldn't have to for it to work (and it could've been prevented if shipping wasn't so awful). the kicker though was the rod itself. we went to the beach to test it out and literally the first swing my dad did it BROKE in half. in front of so many people. how does that happen??? my dad owns many penn rods, have swung them the same and none have crumbled like this. i'm assuming this is a return or a very faulty product. i HIGHLY suggest not buying from the penn store on amazon to save yourselves the embarrassment. seeing my dad excited only for him to not even get to use it was so terrible to see. ... show more

The one I got was a bit bigger and heavier than I expected for pier fishing. I wish I got a smaller one, but hopefully it will be a perfect fit when I return to fresh water fishing. Aside from that, quality and rod were great for the price point.

They really need to fix their packaging on this item. I ended up spending more time on the return packaging then they did on the original packaging. Had to return like 2 of these because the reel was damaged in shipping or the rod was all scratched up. Works like a dream once you actually get a nice one. ... show more

Warning: You get an unwrapped reel in a cardboard box. No Penn box, paperwork, warranty info, user paperwork....nothing. Nada, nil, zilch, zero. Just a reel, stuffed in a shipping box with nothing else but a piece of bubble wrap. Rod comes in a nice tube, but still, nothing but a small tag on an eyelet. Every Penn I've ever bought over to the years comes in a Penn box, with all the necessary and obligatory paperwork, (even a 309m I bought earlier this week on Amazon). You may as well walk into Wally world and by some bargain-basement rig for as cheap as you can get. Apparently, Penn & or this seller provide you with less for buying both a Penn rod and a Penn reel rather than just a reel. Lesson learned. Caveat emptor. ... show more
