  • CAUTION!!! COULD CATCH FIRE!!!
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
If I could leave zero stars for this I would. I would not recommend this product to anyone unless you are looking for your firearms/valuables to go up in smoke... or worse, your home. I was looking to replace my dehumidifier rod in my gun safe with something better so I decided to give this a try. After receiving it in the mail today, I assembled the cord and outlet plug per the instructions provided with it. After emptying out my safe so I could place this in a back corner, I plugged it into the interior outlet of my safe. Immediately upon plugging it in, a spark shot out and my breaker tripped. I do not see this having a very large draw so it is very concerning that it managed to trip the breaker. I also noticed that the tip on one of the outlet prongs had partially melted as a result of this. I have a top of the line Liberty safe with an interior outlet and I have never encountered such a problem with any of the dehumidifying rods. Just to verify it was nothing on my end and that it still worked, I reset my breaker and plugged this unit into a wall outlet ditectly. Nothing crazy happened when plugging it in and it soon began warming up as it should. So after letting it run for a few minutes I unplugged it. When I pulled the plug out, an even larger spark shot out this time, scorching my outlet. I will be returning this item and will also be seeking reimbursement costs for replacing my outlet. I have never been so disappointed in a purchase. Hopefully the customer service with this company is better than the quality control. I have attached pictures to show how dangerous this product is. I was very excited to try this out but I now will be sticking with the good old reliable rod and cans of silica pellets. ... show more

  • Cheaply made!
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
UPDATE: I ordered a 3rd one because I really need something like this, but it was broken also. In exactly the same way! Would someone please fix this flaw and stop sending broken items!! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I ordered this after reading reviews and deciding that it would be perfect for my safe. However, when I received it the base was detached because the plastic that the base was screwed into was completely broken off. The package was undamaged. I requested a replacement which I was happy when it came the next day. The replacement was broken in exactly the same way! I think it is a design flaw and won't be purchasing these products again. Very cheap plastic that obviously breaks easily. ... show more

  • Great Gift for Gun Enthusiasts!
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
Given to friend for gun safe and works great! They still use it to keep humidity down during rainy months and don’t need to worry about gin storage. Good product!

  • Works reasonably well for preserving the condition of your firearms.
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
Seems to work pretty good for a gun safe in basement. Could have been a bit warmer for a little more air circulation. For a larger gun safe 2 of them (one in each corner) might be needed. Still I'm pleased with the product.

  • Not Designed For Gun Large Gun Safes
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
I purchased this safe dehimidifier based upon the reviews here and elsewhere. After a move forced me to put my safe in the garage I searched about for a solution for my very sub-optimal situation, the Peet dryer was seemingly one of the better solutions. Although I cannot make any long term representations. I do have a couple observations about the installation. First and formost the cord length may be fine for drying boots, but, as for a safe dryer, the cord is woefully short. I was barely able to reach from the floor of the safe to the exit hole at the top of the safe. If my safe had been four inches taller I would have had to use an extension cord (cut and re-plugged) from the outlet to the inside of the safe. As it was I had to use an extension cord from the exit hole at the top of the safe to the outlet. It seems to me as they are marketing a shoe dryer as a safe dryer rather than making a specific item for safes. As far as the plug; my observations are the same as comments in other reviews. The cheapness shows. ... show more

  • Did not work out of the box
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
Opened up the sealed box and unpackaged the heater. First thing I noticed is the cover plate for the bottom of the dryer was not attached. It was screwed in at one time but somehow the plastic plate was broken out of the base. The screws were still in place in the base on the dryer. No pry marks or external damage on the housing. I thought no big deal I'll just tape the base plate on the housing, no big deal. I looked at that plug and never seen one like it. Comes in two pieces. Read the instructions and they stated "do not strip the wires. Just put the cord through the plug housing and install the wire into the plug. Squeeze the prongs together and push into the housing. There were two pins that were supposed to penetrate the insulation. I didn't like it but I tried it anyway. Well, it didn't work when plugged it in. At this point I found that I was correct in my assessment of the POS plug supplied. Cut the plug off and installed a good plug and it worked well. I did check the amp draw and it is 10 milliamps. I am in a dry climate area and just want to keep the safe warm. The safe is well insulated and the door seals tight. The safe is 4 feet wide, 2 feet deep and 6 feet tall. This heater is barley adequate but does what I need it for. I would not buy this POS again. Not worth $40.00. Maybe , MAYBE $10.00 shipped at most. That way one could buy three of them to keep a safe in a more hostel climate and triple the frustration of having to repair them! ... show more

  • Does what it’s meant to do!
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
This is a nice compact heat source for the purpose of dehumidification. Whether it works better than a radiant source like a heat bar is debatable but in an enclosed space it has been sufficient in keeping temperatures constant even against the present weather. I’d buy it again for my application

  • Quality safe dryer for years of trouble-free service.
Style: SafeKeeping - Up to 300 Cubic Feet
The PEET safe dryer showed up on time and was immediately put in use. Reading previous reviews, I went to Lowes and purchased a $2.50 heavy duty plug, which simplified set up, instructions very straight forward. The amount of warmth this unit produces really impressed me compared to Golden Rods I've used for 25 years! This gun locker being located in my barn will be nicely heated this Fall through Winter. I expect a great service life as my PEET Boot Dryer has been used by me approaching 30 years! I recommend this unit. Yes, I added 1/2" Styrofoam insulation. ... show more
